Summary: I liked it better the second time
Review: I watched this on DVD and liked it, but had concerns about the fact that I had expected it to be aimed at small children, and it really isn't (in my opinion). Now, I watched it on VHS, and I liked it better, possibly because it did not violate my expectations.

This is a funny and interesting movie, with more plot than many animated movies. The story is, basically, that there exists a city of monsters that his powered by the screams of frightened children. The heroes of this city are the "scarers" who come out of children's closets at night, scare them, and capture the screams to give energy to their city. John Goodman voices the number one scarer, Sully, with Billy Crystal as his assistant, Mike. However, there is a plot, lead by the evil number two scarer (and secretly supported by the seemingly kindly boss of Monsters, Inc., where they gather the scream-power) to capture children, bring them into the monster city, and mechanically extract screams from them. Sully and Mike oppose the plot, while caring for an adorable little girl brought accidentally into the monster city. They eventually foil the plot, come to the realization that scaring little children isn't very nice, and find a solution for their power problem that doesn't require terrifying little children.

Technically, the film is gorgeous, and the computer animation (along with that of "Shrek") makes me wonder about the future of traditional animation. I found the VHS to be equal in quality to the DVD, although this might not hold true if I had high-definition television.

Two shorts come with the movie (even on VHS, not just on DVD). "For the Birds" is very short, has no dialog, and is brilliant in its message. It's very short, and I will not give away the plot (although I did in my review of the DVD). "Mike's Car" is cute. Mike, from Monsters, Inc., buys a new car, with every possible feature on it. Except, unfortunately, he cannot get it to work because it's too complicated. He and Sully barely survive their first trip in it.

Overall, this VHS, with it feature and two shorts, is very entertaining. I rented it, and now I'm putting it on my Christmas list.

Summary: Pixar's Monster's Inc perfect fit for whole family!
Review: When it comes to movies and esspecially ones that are cartoons you think to yourself...."oh great another movie for kids...when are they ever going to think of the adults for once?" Well, you wish is Pixar and Disney's latest command with Monster's Inc. This delightful cheerful cartoon is a story about two Monsters "Sully" which is voiced by John Goodman and "Mike" which is voiced by Billy Chrystal. These two monsters are with this company called Monster's Inc and they scare children for energy for the plant....it is like a nuclear plant yet not axactly. There is a compitition all the time of who can have the most screams on the scream chart at the end of the work shift and Sully is always in compitition with this wormy guy which I forget the name of. Anyways as Sully is in compitition with "the worm" he finds the worm trying to sneak a few more screams in so that he can be at the top and when Sully tries to get rid of the evidence the evidence becomes friends with him and doesn't want to go back and sully doesn't want to let the little girl who escapes go back.
This movie is alot more on DVD format with the little outtakes that are really good to the games for the kids. There is also two little short films one is "For The Birds" and the other is "Mike's New Car". Do yourself the favor and buy this movie and snuggle up as a family and laugh together and enjoy

Summary: Very pretty eye candy, not a whole lot else
Review: The graphics and effects are beautiful, and if that's enough to keep you entertained for about 80 minutes, look no further, as this has exquisite computer animation, cuddly (read: easily converted to plush toys) characters, and a rich spectrum of facial animation, particularly on the little girl "Boo."
That said, however, Monsters Inc never bothers to tell a story. It's all staging and set up to tell a story. Essentially, you get an 80 minute view as to what life would be like in a monster world on the periphery of our dimension, and a weak subplot on how monsters get their energy. The villains are transparently obvious, there's really never any sense of threat or accomplishment, and the resolution, if any, is very tepid -- essentially, life goes on as normal in Monsteropolis.
Very appealing I'm sure to young children, I don't see myself watching it again, and I'm sure it'll get pretty boring for adults who regularly rewatch movies with their kids.

Summary: Incredible, a must own
Review: This is a fabulous movie and the best DVD that I own (I own more then 100). Wow, this story blew me away, very well thought out and executed. In my next life I want to work at Pixar, they produce only top notch products and seem to have a blast doing it (see the bonus DVD). Disc 2 is fantastic too. Instead of the normal half ... BS that they usually toss onto a disc to rush it to market, this one was very well done with lots of interesting stuff and "easter eggs" hidden throughout. This is one DVD that anyone who likes movies should own.

Summary: Pixar Doesn't Disappoint
Review: 'Monsters, Inc.' is the story of what happens behind the closet door. There's a whole world of children-fearing monsters back there. Some are good, some are evil, and all are funny.

In case you aren't familiar with Pixar, all their movies are computer animated. In my opinion, they produce the highest quality animated movies out today. I think they've passed up their cousin, the Disney traditionally animated movie. 'Monsters, Inc.' is just as good as all the other Pixar movies: 'Toy Story', 'A Bugs Life', and 'Toy Story 2'. Every member of your family will enjoy 'Monsters, Inc.' - there are jokes and gags in there for everyone.

Pixar also knows how to package a DVD. There are tons of special features. Especially funny is the outtakes. Buy this movie - and lock your child's door.

Summary: Just Delightful and Amazing to Look At
Review: I really loved Monsters Inc. I thought it was smart, charming and really exceptional. As a lover of many animated films (including most of the Disney Classics) I was thrilled to see the popularity of films like Monsters Inc. / Shrek / etc.

I think Pixar makes the most visually appealing movies in the market. Their work on the "Toy Story" and "Toy Story 2" movies really knocked my socks off and I was so pleased with Monsters Inc.

John Goodmans' vocal performance was top rate. Great movie for the entire family - Kids adore it and parents will have a great time too!

Summary: Who knew that Monsters were so good?
Review: I bought this on DVD and watched it with my four year old niece. She was mesmerized and we both laughed and worried about the characters together. The story is so well done and the animation is beautiful. It should have gotten best picture at the Oscars! It did not just deserve the animation Oscar.

Summary: Story is weak
Review: The animation is good, and I really liked both Boo and the John Goodman character. However, I thought the story was weak. Too much time is spent in mindless chase scenes, and the main conflict in the story seems contrived and belabored.

I tried to get my friends to watch this, but they quit halfway through, saying the story was too predictable and just not interesting enough. I personally watched it all the way through, but it definitely isn't one of my favorites, and is nowhere near as fun for me as Toy Story 1/2.

Summary: Another Fantrastic Movie from Pixar
Review: I have to say I loved this movie. Not only is the premise good but the animation and storyline are also fantastic.

The story is set in another dimension - Monsterland - where the monsters that live in the closets and under the beds are really hard working monsters that have lives that parallel the rest of us. They go to work, have families etc. It is just that their power source is screams of little kids. This is why there are some of them that work in "scream factories" to get the energy of the screams. Children are toxic and in fact there are even corps of people who traveling in contamination suits help to decontaminate anyone or anything that comes back through the closet doors when a monster comes back through.

The story centers around 2 of these hard working monsters as well as "the evil" monster who can disguise himself as does a chameleon. They accidentally let a child into the monster world who thinks Sully is a big friendly kitty cat. In fact she also likes Mike the one eyed monster. Well they determine that she is in fact not toxic and is being hunted by the bad guy and set out to not only save her but also get her back to her home unharmed. The whole story is fantastic!

The DVD has special features that I recommend watching. It lets you travel through the studio as well as the production line. This is greatly interesting if you are one of those people who always wonder, "how'd they do that".

In addition the bloopers they made as almost as funny as the entire movie!

This is a must buy for all ages!
