The Call - A Computer Animation Vision

I've been following Zoe Productions work since they were featured in the "Gate to the Mind's Eye" and "Odyssey into ....".
Their work stood out because apart from the spaceships and explosions it was one of the few works that deserved to be called truly creative, meaningfull and artistic.
Very few companies nowadays pursue 3d animation for the sake of
artistic expression, most are doing special effects, games, comercials, etc...
This Trilogy is an INCREDIBLE artistic accomplishment by any standard.
It's full of AMAZING animations and each segment and program is totally different from the others.
The atmosphere's that are created are unique and defies description.
I'm an animator my self and there's nothing out there that comes close to this Trilogy

Review: I'm not sure what Beny is really trying to achieve here. There's a lot of well done modeling and texturing, as well as nice quality rendering, but then it falls short. The result is something that looks like so many of the demo reels that are received by animation and Hollywood effects houses on a daily basis. Many models are used repeatedly, with texture changes from piece to piece, but as a whole, the disc comes across as a hodge-podge of personal tests and experiments, all striving to show as much of each model from as many points of view as possible. Not that the models are bad (some are quite good), but they're over-presented and animated without any apparent purpose. There's also too many scenes of objects merely passing by the camera, or simply rotating to show all angles.

If the intention was to revisit the look of early computer graphics, then this does come close at times. In the end though, this comes across as the work of an amateur just getting their feet wet with 3D. Kudos to Beny's persistance though, since there's an awful lot of animation here (and on his other discs). Being an animator myself, I know just how much work and render time goes into a project like this.

I don't intend to sound harsh in any way here, and in fact, I encourage Beny to keep it up. Unfortunately, if you're looking for meaningful, polished animation, I recommend the Mind's Eye series of videos from Odyssey. These are a great inspiration to many animators, and also serve as good reference for demo reels. This video shows what not to do for a demo reel.

Review: The animation,while quite detailed in rendering, is extremely wooden in its motion, almost disturbingly robotic.

The music, though,.....well, it's the dreadful "organ stop" FM sequencing one would only excuse in a video game. I've no doubt the composer has some keyboard chops, but the music, compositionally, is rather turgid and monochromatic.

Review: The Call is set to Carnival music and is simply irritating. The scenes are disturbing (for example a fly eating someone's head). It is also dull. I was neither entertained nor inspired by this. I wouldn't watch the video again if someone paid me to view it. It is a shame to get a video and immediately throw it away.

Summary: GREAT WORK, EXCEPTIONAL PRODUCTION
Review: This is original stuff.

Zoe productions have been around for a long time winning many prestigious awards.
And you can see that by their mastery of 3d and original creativity.
The quality of the DVD is great with cristal clear images and surround sound.
Although it is a simbolic journey, you do get a sense of meaning
that it`s hard to describe.
Can`t compare with repetitive, meaningless ¨animation compilation¨ videos you`ve already seen over and over.

If you want to know what the future of CG as an art form looks like, THIS IS IT.

Review: Very good efort from the Morning star group. The CG grafix were very good, how ever as with most of the Morning start videos, the music could be better. The music sounds like dis-jointed modern jazz, and out of tune. Having said that, my sugeston is to play something you like and turn the TV down and your sterio up.
