Rating: Summary: Phenomenal Music, Great Acting, Good Story, Dumb End Review: Spike Lee innertwines Aaron Copland and Public Enemy music throughout the entire film and it works! The way Copland's music is used is breathtaking, the best use of music in any film I have ever seen. However, the basketball recruiting trips were a little unrealistic and the ending was really weak, so weak that I have to give it just two stars. But I'd probablly watch this film again, just to listen to the music.
Rating: Summary: This movie has game Review: I must say that Spike Lee did a great job in making this movie. Jake (Denzel Washington) plays a prisoner who is in jail for murdering his wife years ago. He is given a chance to get out of prison if he does one thing. He has to convince his son, Jesus (Ray Allen) to attend a certain college. If he does that, Jake is a free man. Of course, it won't be easy because Jesus has to first forgive his dad for what he did to his mom before he can even think of going to a certain university in his dad's favor. Denzel Washington and Ray Allen both put on great performances to make this a great movie. The basketball sequences in the movie are exciting, but the drama in "He Got Game" is what makes the movie work so well. I recommend anybody to get "He Got Game."
Rating: Summary: Spike Lee is Great - as usual Review: He's Got Game was a good movie. Powerful storyline about a strained Father/Son relationship. The only problem I had with it were the sex scenes, which I feel were completely unnecessary. And too much cursing was going on. Otherwise, it nearly brought me to tears, and the actors were wonderful. Denzel is so good at immersing himself completely into his characters. Good job!
Rating: Summary: Good Stuff Spike Review: He Got Game is a fabulous look at a number of topics. This fictional movie looks at a realistic view of college basketball recruiting. The blistering reality of some people's lives is truthful. Denzel Washington gives his usual great performance. Ray Allen isn't too bad either. This is a movie that can touch the heart of anybody. Somebody who comes from a broken home or has a love of a sport can relate to this film.
Rating: Summary: He Got Game Is Great! Review: He Got Game is a great movie about Jesus Shuttlesworth (Ray Allen), a senior at Lincoln High School on Coney Island. This movie depicts the mental struggle Jesus must endure when he must choose both the outcome of his basketball career and whether or not to forgive his father (Denzel Washington) for his mother's death. A powerful drama that shouldn't stay out of any basketball fan's collection.
Rating: Summary: My favourite movie Review: As I`m a big basketball-fan i enjoyed this movie very much. Spike Lee, Ray Allen and especially Denzel Washington did a great job. I also liked the appearance of Travis Best. This movie gives you a lot of information about how pro-sports business really works. The part with the sportrs agent is my absolute favoueite. Check this out, You won`t be disappointed!
Rating: Summary: Wouldn't make the Final Four, but... Review: Even a non-basketball fan can enjoy this surprisingly gentle film about the reconciliation of a father and son. When I say "surprisingly gentle," I mean the tone of the film, not the content. While there is some violence and gratutious sex, Denzel Washington as Jake Shuttlesworth and Ray Allen as his son, Jesus, convey the multitude of emotions that men in their situations would feel. The best compliment I can think of giving Mr. Washington is that he is a human being in every film he does, not some plastered-on character study of what an actor "thinks" his role should be. It's the acting that makes this movie good. As for the other aspects of the film, the music by Aaron Copeland was a perfect selection because it contributed greatly to the feeling of gentleness and grace that the actors conveyed. I also liked some of the camera work, though the fact that I noticed it means it wasn't as smooth as it could have been. Probably the weakest part of the film was the script itself. There are many subplots that we've seen handled better in other films and I was shocked at the incredibly hokey final two minutes. In fact, this ending made me mad because it was so out of place with the rest of the film. If you turn off the DVD immediately after Jake's and Jesus's reading of the letter, you will be able to avoid what would be considered a sendup of "The Natural" in another film. Come on, Spike; you're a better filmmaker than this.
Rating: Summary: Decent, but. . . Review: Spike and Denzel have done better things; however, this film like any Spike Lee film is worth watching..
Rating: Summary: a good film Review: this is a good film.not on Cooley High Level for me but a good film nevertheless.Denzel Washington continues to show why he is the man in Hollywood today. He is the best actor going around today.Ray Allen does a good job as well.this film takes what happen in above the rim one big step further with the lust of Money, sex, power.these elements are very important.the whole Agent&Image business. this film does a good job at dealing with the Pros&Cons of the modern day Player.good&bad.Jim Brown gives a solid performance as well.
Rating: Summary: He Never Had Game Review: I was looking for a father-son movie for myself and my 16 year old. What a mistake! "He Got Game" has gratuitous sex that made us both blush and had nothing to do with the plot. Some cursing would be expected in a movie about coming up out of the projects. For someone named Jesus the main character is not at all Christ-like. And one other thing-Spike-next time you make a movie about the projects, they dont play ball on painted courts or have glass backboards! Unreal!
