Summary: Simple yet complex, and utterly refreshing
Review: "Love Jones" is a love story that will resonate with college educated African-American Gen-Xers. The "boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back" storyline is simple and not new. The complexity comes in the portrayal of heartbreak, fear of commitment, disappointment with relationships (expectations versus real life), indecision, and the triumph of love through making oneself vulnerable-- all against a backdrop of intellectual, multi-faceted young African American professionals who are not the cookie-cutter types most commonly found in movies like "Booty Call". For those of us who were worn out with the portrayals of African Americans as 'hood dwelling gang members on crack, noble, long suffering Southern racism martyrs, or club hopping sex maniacs, this was a refreshing movie. It was one of my favorites for 1997-98, along with "Eve's Bayou" and "Soul Food." Nia Long and Larenz Tate have an on-screen sensuality that floats right off the screen. This is how truly free African American people love.

Summary: Wonderful love story!
Review: This is a wonderful love story that gives African-American's in the nineties a view of realism in the aspect of "puppy love". The two stars show a determinism to mix career aspirations with love and add a little spice and wit by playing a sort of cat and mouse game. Two thumbs up!!!!!

Summary: A love story that I can relate to
Review: I could certainly watch this movie daily. Long, Carson, Tate, "Hollywood", and the others are characters that we all know at some point in our lives. The group seemed like they would be fun to hang out with. Like true friends should, they had no problems "checking" those who needed reality checks when their visions became impaired by love. It was nice to see a love story with normal, every day, urban African Americans that were believable and easy to relate to. I would like to see more movies of this type. Now, poetry/jazz hang out spots are my favorites! The soundtrack is a must!

Summary: Larenz Tate + Nia Long = Love & Excellent Movie!
Review: This is the best love story ever. It proves that real love exists. It shows African-Americans in a real realtionship. Love is not easy to come by but it is attainable if you are willing to be honest about your feelings. Its about time that African-Americans are showed in realtionships that we know exist but seldom seen on the silver screen. Great movie for all races. Watch it again for the first time. END

Review: Love Jones is an excellent movie as it has a well written script plus talented actors. This movie is thoughtful, intelligent, and shows the usually unseen side of African American poetry clubs and circles. Furthermore, African Americans are portrayed as intellectual, successful, and positive rold models rather than the usual typecast shoot 'em up bang bang ganstas from Compton. Highly recommend it! END

Summary: Love Jones: a refreshing look at contemporary black love
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this well done movie. It depicts a more life-like, romantic side of young adult black love life. I liked the fact that characters had "real" jobs and were educated. It's refreshing to see a good, black movie made in the 90's without violence and negative images of young black males. END

Summary: ONE OF MY FAV MOVIES
Review: This is a good portrayal of black love. Everyone in the movie has a laid back, kicking it, kind of atmosphere. The movie stars Nia Long (Nina) & Larenz Tate (Darius) as a potential love connection. Nina just got out of a bad relationship with a man that she had planned on marrying. She thought brothers were "played out like an 8 track." She was not interested in another man, only her work as a photographer. Along comes Darius whom she meets in a poetry relaxing, groovy type atmosphere club. Nina is not in the process of looking for a man, but like they say, you can't chose who you fall in love with. Nina enters Darius's world, she picks up his habits, and she falls for him physically and sexually as well as mentally. But no love story would be complete if there wasn't an added piece to this juicy tale. Both characters don't really want each one to know that they are falling for each other and feeling the wrath of a love jones, until it's to late for the relationship to be saved. Nina drifts away from what they have in order to make sure that Darius is really whom she wants, while Darius tries to play the "hard" role and act like he's not falling for Nina. Both are taking on an emotional roller coaster of love and forced to stop playing these childish games. But is it to late? THIS IS ONE OF THE BEST PICTURES NIA LONG HAS PLAYED IN BESIDES THE BEST MAN. AND SISTA'S HAIR LOOKS FAB-U-LOUS!!

Summary: Acting with style.............
Review: This movie had reminded me of watching the old black and white movies with my dad. More true to life characters looking for love, being in love, and loosing it. Old story fresh view. Larenz Tate was so Cary Grant in style as the character may have been in a clumsey situation, but the actor kept him from looking silly and like a cardboard cut out.
Nia Long has always been a favorite of mine she is sweet even whe she is tough, almost like a Kathrine Hepburn.
This is one of his best work and showing that he is better than always playing an angry black man. Great movie an great performance bye all.....BUY THIS MOVIE!!!
