Rating: Summary: Excellent, though heavy-handed, Civil War epic Review: Tells a great story very movingly, beautifully, and with great attention to detail. My only quibble is the music: beautiful as it is, this movie lays it on thick, commanding the audience how to feel at any given moment rather than letting the scene's intrinsic drama make the point. I just think less is more, and a smart audience "gets it" without scenes and emotions being over-emphasized. The DVD has great picture and sound quality - a few extras would have deepened the experience...
Rating: Summary: Magnificent!! Review: No doubt about it, "Glory" is the best movie ever made. The emotion tears at your heart and leaves you mezmorized. See this movie ASAP!
Rating: Summary: Excellent Civil War Movie!!! Review: I thoguht that Glory was an excellent movie. It as well acted and historically Accurate. I thought that the scene where the men of the 54th were going to battle and all the men were cheering was touching and moving. It is a must see!
Rating: Summary: A triumph Review: One of the best war movies ever made. This film effortlessly displays the horrors of war while showing the human capacity for courage and honor. Matthew Broderick is at his very best as a young, white colonel leading a regiment of black men against the Confederacy. The supporting cast is uniformly excellent, with Denzel Washington shining as a soldier who distrusts, with good reason, the white men on both sides of the American Civil War. The look in his eyes as he is being flogged for desertion seems to encompass the humiliation and anger of an entire generation of slaves. The final battle scene is quite simply unforgettable. "Glory" is glorious film-making.
Rating: Summary: A superb epic of war and the human spirit Review: This is one of my favorite war movies. The acting is superb, and the battle scenes are well choreographed and realistic. This is the only Civil War movie this Southern boy has ever seen where he pulls for the Yanks!
Rating: Summary: Inspirational! Review: I am a college student in upstate New York, and I was required to watch Glory as a requirement for my English class. The movie was incredible. Glory has the rare quality of being able to make its audience experience TRUE feelings of sadness, happiness, anger, and inspiration in a span of two hours. The cast was amazing. Denzel Washington made the audience believe that he was, in fact, an escaped slave. Freeman assumed his familiar role as a voice of reason and inspiration. The young man who played Thomas Earl, aka Snowflake, also put forth a superb performance. As for Matthew Broderick...I would've tried a little harder to cast someone other than Ferris to lead the charge, but he did a fine job. The moving storyline, with the help of a strong soundtrack, will bring tears to your eyes at least once. Guaranteed! This movie is a classic. Enjoy!
Rating: Summary: Good! Review: This film was not as good as I expected it to be. But it was good. There was alot of gore in this movie. But the worst part was when the one soldiers head explodes. But buy it or rent it.
Rating: Summary: thank you Review: Thank you. I rented this movie based on the recommendations of the reviewers and thoroughly enjoyed it. My only criticism is that Matthew Broderick is not credible in his role. I mean, Ferris Bueller commanding men and leading a charge? Forget it. Inspector Gadget, maybe. A Colonel, no way.
Rating: Summary: U.S. history brought beautifully to life! Review: This movie is a must see! A debatable and tragic part of our U.S. history is brought beautifully to life in this movie by director Edward Zwick. If you find yourself enjoying this movie whenever you see it, you may want to pick up the documentary of the 54th Mass. Regiment titled "The True Story of Glory Continues" narrarated by Glory actor Morgan Freeman.
Rating: Summary: Fantastic Review: My all-time favorite war movie. Powerful and sad, great battle scenes, and a true story to boot. Give 'em hell, 54th!
