Summary: Blacks played a significant role in keeping our country
Review: When one hears about the civil war, he/she hears about Gettysburg, or Antietam, or Appomatox. Hardly ever is the 54th Massachusetts mentioned. These black men fought not only to preserve the Union, but also for their freedom. These men had nothing to lose and really nothing to gain, yet they fought for pride and honor.

Summary: A classic and timely movie of the Civil War
Review: A classic is what this movie is. Brillianlty and accurately portrayed by some of Hollywoods finest actors today. It is suprizing that a movie about the U.S. 54th Massachusets Volunter Colored Regiment wasnt produced before. Matthew Broderick does a fine job portraying Col Robert Gould Shaw and Cory Ewes, Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman do a fine job portraying the soldiers serving under Col. Shaw. It is true that freed African-American slaves shed a tremendous amount of blood during the Civil War and yet until this movie came out, it was not very well known.All of the movie is fantastic, however the most moving part of the movie in my opinion, is just before the Regiment charges onto Fort Wagner and the men know that they are going to probably die, yet they have knowing smiles on their faces, understanding the job they have to do. The music to this movie is right on target with the emotions and scenes. Overall, a great movie that should be shown more often in schools and on Television especially during Black History Month.

Summary: An excellent war-movie.
Review: This is one of the best war-movies I have ever seen, showing both the heroism and the futility in its portrayal of the doomed regiment marching into the gunfire. The real story of the first african-american combat unit in the Northern Army during the civil war is realisticaly portrayed, based on the commanding officer's personal letters. Good performances and good directing make it an excellent piece of work.

Summary: The African-American Soldiers
Review: Glory is a movie about Colonel Shaw and the Massachusetts 54th Regiment, the first American military unit made up of African-American soldiers. The unit fought during the Civil War, which makes the story that much greater. Shaw not only had to train what were illiterate former slaves how to fight like soldiers, he also had to convince the Union leaders that his men could fight like soldiers. No one had taken the time to train the other black regiments that had been created during the war. As such they acted more like marauders than soldiers. Many Union officers didn't think that you could teach ex-slaves how to fight. It was that prejudice that the 54th and Shaw were struggling against. Glory features two of the finest actors around today in what I believe is their only joint appearance: Denzel Washington and Morgan Freeman. Washington and Freeman both play escaped slaves that have taken a posting with the 54th. Freeman is given a rank of sergeant-major and is the highest ranking African-American in the unit. Washington plays an abused ex-slave that has a lot of anger built up inside over his treatment as a slave. He gets particular joy out of tormenting Thomas, played by Andre Braugher, who is Shaw's personal servant. Thomas is Washington's foil as he was allowed an education by his employers and has all the worldy demeanor of his employer Shaw. Shaw is played by Matthew Broderick. I've never been a big fan of Broderick; but, he does capture the essence of a brave but unsure commander in this film. I have no knowledge of the Massachusetts 54th other than from this movie. So I don't know if Glory is an exact historical account of the unit. If it is, then this truly was a brave and unique group. It was the courage and bravery of men like this that allowed our nation to remain as one.

Review: golry is one of the best movie i have ever seen. I just watched it in History class and it was the first time in ages that i actually enjoyed that class ! the ending is sad and can be a real tear jerker, but all in all, this movie is awesome !

Summary: One of the Greatest War Films Ever
Review: Glory is a fine film that is among the greatest ever made. It tells the story of the first black regiment to fight in the Civil War. It is powerfully acted by Denzel Washington(who won an Academy Award for his performance) and well directed by Edward Zwick. It teaches us many things about each other and proves we are all equal. The film was snubbed for an Oscar nomination for best picture as well as other major awards due to it tough compition with other good films and the controversial story that it told. Still it is possiblly my favorite movie and one that I will always treasure.

Review: I just bought a DVD player and bought Glory along with it. what an awesome movie to be played on DVD. The acting, action and soundtrack is just great. Right now, my favorite movie to watch.

Summary: Could have been even greater!
Review: I am a U.S. History teacher in Grand Terrace, California. I did love the way that the film depicted Shaw and the 54th Mass., but the film did little to show that the very reason that blacks were allowed to join the North, was a political one. Lincoln saw that they were going to join the South, so he gave his famous proclaimation, freeing them. This in turn brought many blacks to the North that wouldn't have fought for them. There were also many blacks who did in fact fight for the South. It would have been very interesting to see a black/black conflict in the film for instance. I did very much enjoy the movie, but I wish I could show more than the T.V. version to my students. A PG rating would allow more young viewers to such a historical event!

Summary: An absolute gem
Review: Glory is a matchless film rich with themes of honor and sacrifice. Most interesting to me were its compelling treatment of distinctly military issues such as leadership, integrity, fraternization, law of armed conflict, officer-NCO relations, combat training and care for subordinates. It should be required viewing for military professionals, especially junior officers and NCOs.

Review: Theres a lot someone can say about this movie, but i will tell ya this: it is probably one of my favorite movies, mostly because of the ending. if you havent seen this, you should, becasue it is definitely deserving of the oscars it got.
