Rating: Summary: Gory or What !? Review: I reckon that this film is pretty gory even the edited version is pretty full of that blood that we all love ! The best bit is at the begining when one of the guys in the union army gets his head blown off by a cannon and his head explodes ! into a pile of goo !!! After that it is a little depressing, for a while, but it still keeps you interested all of the way through and the final scene is pretty sad and full of action all at the same time. This is definitely a film to see if you like this sort of thing.
Rating: Summary: A superb movie Review: This movie is one of the very, very few movies I've seen in my lifetime that had the power to bring me to tears. I never cry for sad scenes, because I think the actors are simply too sappy in that kind of role to be believable to me and earn my sympathy. However, the one scene in the movie, when the 54th is marching through the dunes to assume the position as the lead regiment in the assault on Ft. Wagner struck such an inspirational chord with me, that the first time I saw it in theaters, I couldn't help myself, I wept. Can you imagine, the all-black 54th Massachusetts Infantry, hated by the rebels, and hated by their Union "brethren" alike marching quietly through the sand dunes, everyone present knowing that a great many of them would not return from the mission, when suddenly, a lone white soldier who had previously hurled epithets at them, cries out, "Give 'Em hell, 54th!", and the entire Union division raises up a mighty cheer - whew, I'm almost tear-ing up right now just writing this.
Rating: Summary: My #1 of All Time Review: Until I had seen Glory, my all time favorite movie was Cool Hand Luke ... this blew it away. With outstanding performances by Washington (Oscar), Broderick (his best movie ever), Freedman, Braugher (Homicide), and Elwes (Princess Bride) how could you go wrong!? This is definitely one movie that will forever be in my library ... whether Beta, VHS, Laser Disc, DVD, or whatever is invented next.
Rating: Summary: Absolutely amazing! Review: One of the best movies ever made! The acting was magnificant-Broderick and Washington esp. I cried for a half an hour after the movie ended! simply magnificant
Rating: Summary: this is all-right Review: This movie is all-right. IT has a lot of history in it. IF your looking for action this is not the movie for you. If your looking for imformation on the 54th Massuchussets you should rent this movie. I am a big civil war buff but I didn't like this movie that much. If your a buff like me you should rent the movie " Gettysburg". It is a long movie with plenty of action. yet,if you've already seen "gettysburg" and your looking for somthing to rent just rent "GLory". It's o.k.
Rating: Summary: The movie's title was well fitted. Review: I saw Glory in school and it is a great movie. It's name fits the content perfectly. It is about a group of Black soldiers and their struggle to fight and in the end they pay the ultimate sacrifice, death. But they died with pride. During the enire time they faced racisim from both sides. Words cannot describe how I feel about this video. It is a movie worth watching and it gives a true life lesson.
Rating: Summary: This is far and away the best movie I have ever seen. Review: This is a movie that honestly makes the hairs on the back of your neck stand up. Anyone that doesn't get a reaction from this movie needs to be checked for a pulse. The acting was superb.
Rating: Summary: It's the best! Review: My history class just recently watched "Glory", and I have to say, it was the best war movie I've ever seen! The acting was fantastic and the battles were so real they put me on the edge! I couldn't even believe it was made in 1989 because the quality of the film is so top-notch. A lot of my classmates, including myself, ended up crying at the end because it was so sad! It is really an excellent movie, and I'd recommend it to anyone, even if they're not into American history.
Rating: Summary: An apt name - a GLORY-fication of ugly war Review: That said, it is still a GREAT movie despite some misleading content about black soldiers. Didn't Colonel Shaw get his recruits among the free blacks of the New England area? Oh, well. Picky. Picky. Picky. My other beef is with the general trend that all motion picture dramatizations have: music. When it comes to the Civil War and movies we demand historical accuracy for our eyes, yet crave utter fantasy for our ears. Once, just once, I'd like to see a war movie of any kind where the choir of angels has been removed - and all we hear are the terrestrial cries of anguish and death. That's what war is. Still, it is fascinating that even at this late date we insist on romanticizing this war (otherwise it would be wholly unpalatable). "Glory" is a spectacular wallow in such romanticism, but I loved every minute of it just the same. The one thing that really merits celebrating about this movie is its positive message for African Americans who, I imagine, had probably found most Civil War movies before this to be a big yawn at best.
Rating: Summary: Reviewing Glory should be a requirement to grad. high school Review: This is an incredibly moving film. To get the full impact of the movie review it a minimum of 3 times - the 3rd time without sound!
