Summary: Jackie American Style.
Review: This was the American breakthrough for Jackie Chan. There is nothing new here. The mismatched cops story has been done a couple dozen times before. What makes this movie entertaining is the chemistry between Chan and Tucker.

A warning to fans of the HK Chan movies....not as much of the rip-roaring Chan stuntwork as in the older movies. While what was here was entertaining, I felt as if I wanted more. Jackie may have surrendered too much control in this respect. Also, Tucker gets annoying, especially in his use of racial slurs. His slurs were meant to be funny but he comes off as condescending and offensive.

A good vehicle to introduce Jackie to the mainstream but this could have been better.

Summary: I hate to admit it, but...
Review: I loved this movie. (Shhh! Don't tell my friends; they'll all laugh at me--and they do that enough with my musical tastes!) It wasn't meant to blow your mind, and make you leave the theater wondering about it. No, it's just 'mindless entertainment'...and pretty funny mindless entertainment, if you ask me. If you're looking for something with depth, go see AI. Chris Tucker has some of the funniest lines, the best being "Alright, which one of y'all kicked me?" I loved the credits, where they showed the bloopers...but I always get a kick out of those. I can't wait for the sequel. I'm hoping that, maybe, it will be one of those rare things like Jurassic Park, where the second is better then the first.

Summary: Chan-Fu and Lots of Laughter Too
Review: Here we have a kidknapping mystery involving the daughter of a foreign ambassador. Jackie Chan is called in from Hong Kong by the ambassador to find and rescue his daughter. He finds himself involuntarily teamed up with LAPD's most arrogant, but hilarious, officer.

These two actors play wonderfully off of each other. This is a "kick your shoes off and get ready to roll with laughter" kind of movie. Also, as always, the movie is jampacked with "Chan-Fu."

I highly recommend this flick!

Summary: The little girl should've been railed
Review: This moive was just an excuse to have some mindless (hopefully enthralling)action and to show what a funny ...(actor) Chris Tucker is. I don't think it succeeded that well.

Sure, Chris Tucker is funny. Ha ha. But there's gotta be a better venue for him to display it than this reeally lame plot with Jackie Chan who he has no chemistry with. I wouldn't mind a good mindless plot if they didn't keep reminding me, repeatedly, that the whole catalyst for the ENTIRE movie is to get back the ...little ...(chinese girl). And how they're "doing it for the little girl." That reeeally got under my skin. I mean, hey. Have a mindless movie, but don't dress it up like it's not.

The action was okay, Chris Tucker wasn't as funny as I was led to believe, by numerous parties, he would be, and I walked away feeling dissatisfied....P>C, C-

Summary: Great movie just got better
Review: Man if you thought the VHS edition of rush hour was great, than You really, really want to get this DVD. The movie is the same but now has GREAT Dolby surround, you can notice this from the beggining to the end. A more sutile changes is the renforced picture quality, you can get this on any dvd but it works really well here. If you take the Vhs edition of this movie, and give it great sound, picture quality and loads of extra features you get the dvd that is Rush Hour Platinum.

Summary: You'll Get A Rush Of Laughter
Review: The paring of Jackie Chan and Chris Tucker was indeed a good match. These guys feed off of each other very well. Some racial overtones, but it is all in jest. The story has a few holes in it but the focus is more on Chan and Tucker. Tucker really brightens up the screen with his personality and antics. Give it a try.

Summary: Americanised Jackie
Review: The DVD itself is great, audio and visual, plus the bonus features. But I have some reservations about the movie with Jackie in it. It seems more like an American action movie than a Jackie Chan movie. Don't mistake me - I liked the movie, though Chris Tucker is very annoying. His voice sets my teeth on edge. (I prefer Owen Wilson in Shanghai Noon, his humour is more my style). Jackie also seems very toned down, showing little of what makes him great in Asia. After seeing his Hong Kong films (especially his Police Story and Project A series and lately Accidental Spy) this movie does not compare. (And they STILL didn't let him sing! And I hated his hair style!) After reading Jackie's book "My Life in Action" I understand why the movie wasn't quite as good as I was expecting (action-wise). He had very little control of the action and stunts. This is usually what makes Jackie's films so "special", though as he is getting older it makes sense that he does not take so many risks. So though it is a good film to watch and enjoy I still don't consider it a real "Jackie Chan film!" I have heard Rush Hour II is better as much of it was made in HK - looking forward to seeing it.

Summary: A good start
Review: This film is not a typical Jackie Chan movie. The action is sparse and very "Hollywood". However, unlike most Chan films this one is actually watchable. A decent plot and Tuckers humor brought this film to one of the top grossing films of the year with over 100 million in box office gross. With good performances by both Chan and Tucker this is a good starter for those who say they dont like Jackie Chan movies.
