Summary: One of my Favorite movies
Review: In the Line of Fire is one of my favorite movies of all time, and I see a lot of movies. Great story, great action, great direction, etc. Eastwood, Russo and Malkovich are in top form. The cat and mouse game, Eastwood's backstory and the chemistry between himself, Russo and Malkovich make this a keeper. I especially love the theme of failure and redemption. Favorite scenes: Eastwood explaining Dallas, Eastwood & Russo eating Ice cream at the Lincoln Memeorial, the heart attack joke and Eastwood & Russo preparing for sex by dropping a ton of weapons and equipment.

Summary: John Malkovich absolutely carried Mr. Eastwood.
Review: John Malkovich, a man of theater and film, once again gives a splendid performance. Throughout the film, Malkovich carried and tamed Eastwood; like dog on a leesh. Give Malkovich his Oscar!

Summary: Good film, but...
Review: ...Steve Railsback as the CIA agent who knows Malkovich, if not made him, should've had more screen time. With his devious eyes and self-assured smugness ("we're on the same side.") he was in some ways more menacing than Malkovich. He represented everything Malkovich hated and was up in arms about. I think it would've been more interesting if the story focused on their rivalry. Railsback accuses Malkovich of being a homicidal maniac, Malkovich accuses him of being a manipulative, back-stabbing liar. It would've been interesting if Eastwood was somehow caught in between these two dark forces. Finding out as he's going along, who's really telling the truth? Who's really at fault for Malkovich's breakdown? And how Eastwood feels at being caught up in this. From a psychological viewpoint, that would've been more complex and interesting than just having Malkovich as another villain in a black hat who must be destroyed. Railsback had such prescence in his few minutes of screen time, they could've made a whole movie on just his character. And maybe they should.

Summary: Eastwood and company fire off first-class performance
Review: In the Line of Fire is a first-class thriller and one of Clint Eastwood's best movies primarily because he's more vulnerable than the Dirty Harry and Man With No Name anti-heroes of the past. As Frank Horrigan (the aged and edged Secret Service agent who couldn't protect JFK from assassination) Eastwood runs the gamut of emotions as he tracks another assassin with presidential aspirations. It helps greatly that Eastwood is also backed by one of his best supporting casts. I agree that John Malkovich should have won an Oscar for his portrayal of the assassin, and Rene Russo turned in a solid performance as Clint's female counterpart. The only thing that dampened the movie is its excessive profanity. When asked by Russo why he doesn't wear sunglasses like the other agents, Eastwood replies "sometimes a good stare is...effective...." Perhaps writer Jeff Maguire should have taken his character's advice and realized that the Eastwood persona is effective without excessive profanity. Otherwise, In the Line of Fire is effective, edge-of-your film.

Summary: A great movie, if you like movies about chases.
Review: This movie was a hit, but an underrated hit. You can ask a lot of people what they think of this movie and they reply never heard of it, or they forgot about it. But John Malkovick gives the most respectable bad guy performance up their with Anthony Hopkins as Hannibal Lecter. Clint Eastwood gives a great role as a secret service agent.Great music also.I like the part where Makovich asks Clint, "late at night when the demons come, what do you see". Other nice parts.

Review: Clint Eastwood gives the performance of his career with IN THE LINE OF FIRE. Playing a secret service agent (Frank Horrigan)who must protect the President from an assisanation plot. Also starrig Rene Russo as a tough but compassionate female agent (Lily Reins) who falls in love with Clint's character in the film, and John Mahoney (who plays Fraiser's dad on television) as one of the few friends that Frank has left in the service. This is a must have for any Clint Eastwood fan.Directed by Wolfgang Petersen. Music Composed and Conducted by Ennio Morricone.

Summary: Doesn't miss a beat
Review: This is a great movie for Easwood/Malkovich/Action buffs alike. There's a lot going on here. It's an intelligent script with great acting. Pay special attention to the phone scene between Malkovich and Eastwood towards the end of the film. Malkovich is from another planet. He was robbed at Oscar night. Not only is this one a "renter", it's a "buyer" as well. Happy viewing.

Review: Eastwood and Malkovich face off in this rollercoaster ride of a psychological thriller! This is definitely one of Eastwood's best pictures and clearly Malkovich's career performance. With an intelligent plot and strong characters, In the Line of Fire still manages to keep the viewer on the edge of his/her seat with blistering action. Don't miss it!

Review: Rex Stewart Movie Review: In the Line of Fire

During my first viewing, I was not overwhelmed by any aspect of the movie. But about 1/3 of the way through it hit me that every aspect of the movie was excellent.

Director: 7/10 Wolfie does a great job of maintaining the drama. The pace is maintained. The movie is exciting, but a relatively smooth sine wave. Leading Actor: 8/10 I really like Clint Eastwood. For 36 years now. Supporting Actor: John Malkovich. Perfect. An ideal role and a superb job. Best of the Year Nomination: 9/10. Like women, its hard to give out a 10, but if ever there was one Malkovich deserves consideration for a 10. Leading Actress: Rene Russo. Unfortunately, I fall In Lust with most leading ladies and Rene Russo was no exception. Very Good job. Great demeanor. Its hard to believe there are women that nice and compassionate in the Secret Service. 7/10. Music: Excellent support for Petersen's control of the drama. I fell in love with the hard symphonic string trills in The Untouchables, and they carry on nicely here. 6/10.

Assuming $1 rental on a slow Sunday afternoon. 2* Better than a down time watch. 3* Worth a full price theatre ticket. 4* An excellent movie. Worthy of purchase or multilpe rentals over several years. 5* Blockbuster. Overwhelming. Would own the movie and watch it for a lifetime.
