Summary: Political Intrigue, Anyone?
Review: Is there anything that Harrison Ford can't do?Ford stars as Jack Ryan in a follow-up to the successful PATRIOT GAMES. This time out, he finds himself tightly wound into a plot involving the US's highest elected officer -- that's right, the President -- in a failed campaign of the secret drug war. The script is actually penned by Clancy (along with John Milius), and it has an air of authenticity lacking in the other Ryan thrillers: it's a real story set in real place with real villains and real consequences, which makes for a more layered thriller than GAMES or THE HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER. Excellent supporting performances are turned in by Anne Archer (Mrs. Jack Ryan), Willem Dafoe, and Henry Czerny.

Summary: Clear and Present Danger
Review: The Third Jack Ryan film is marginally less exciting than PATRIOT GAMES, but still has enough impressive action set-pieces and patriotic intrigue to keep the story moving. Philip Noyce returns to helm this one, and it shows, with some exciting action scenes and the upping of the explosion ante. Especially impressive is a scene with an ambush on Ryan's car in an alley. The supporting cast is great, including Willem Dafoe as the soldiers' leader. Still, it lacks the adrenalin action that was great with PATRIOT. Nontheless, it is still an impressive action film with Harrison proving once again that when it comes to action, he's the man for the job.

Summary: "Incredibly boring movie"
Review: Clear and Present Danger staring Harrison Ford does have its moments and is not the worst film of all time but it still fails to entertain and will bore you to death. This also applies to The Hunt for Red October and Sum of All Fears. I expected this to be a real C.I.A movie with a lot of gunplay but I didn't get what I expected. I'm still not sure if I should see Patriot Games. Maybe that would be a good action film because of its "R" rating. Harrison Ford is Jack Ryan (a role that Alec Baldwin played first and Ben Affleck plays now), an analyst for the C.I.A (or is it F.B.I) He soon starts a case concerning Columbian drugs and mercenaries. I didn't really get it that much. I don't suggest you buy or even rent this horrible film. I'm sorry Tom Clancy and Harrison Ford. You're both good though I don't think this was you best work.

Summary: Good, but.....
Review: I did enjoy this movie. The sniper training and stalking were first rate. BUT, I just could not understand why Jack Ryan would not pick up a firearm to defend himself. It had been demonstrated in past stories that he did indeed know how to handle something that goes bang. I guess it is just now a bad thing to have the good guy touch something as evil as a sidearm or rifle....even to save a life.

Summary: A bold end to a great trilogy
Review: Philip Noyce's vision of Tom Clancy's CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER is a grand one. The viewer is swept into two different worlds, each equally sinister and secretive. Each world is displayed beautifully, but with an edge of roughness about it. Harrison Ford is great in this picture that is a great end to an "intelligent" action trilogy. Buy CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER today! After an American businessman and friend of the president is murdered in the Carribean, it is up to the intelligence forces to solve the heinous crime. This investigation takes new deputy director Jack Ryan on a journey through the vast world of drug cartels and the deadly game of Washington and Bogota politics. Director Noyce brings to this film a grit that Clancy's novel has, quite commendable. All in all, this is a wonderful picture that needs to be viewed. This film has a few flaws. Firstly, bad Latin accents and a slippery American one from Donald Moffat (the President) take away from scenes at times. Secondly, at times, the "menacing" drug lords come off as somewhat bufoonish. However, that said, this is still a great film that a fan of action, politics, and drama should own. This age 15+ picture is a must have, buy it today!

Review: Harrison Ford (Jack P.Ryan), the Deputy Director Intelligence did not carry a gun even in hostages rescue operation in Colombia. Another mistake, Harrison Ford (Jack P.Ryan) used his business card as an ID card - he showed his business card to a drugs gang to prove his Identity-!

Summary: A Soldier's Story
Review: The Jack Ryan films continue their timeliness with CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER. The 1994 entry has Harrison Ford return for his second outing, this time to battle Columbian drug lords and political scandal right up to the oval office. This time the stakes aren't as large as Red October (global warfare), nor are they as small as Patriot Games (The Ryan family safety.) Now, a little revenge results in a secret rescue mission putting Ryan into many awkward situations. When Ryan's mentor Admiral Greer (The wonderful James Earl Jones in a formulaic twist in character) is taken ill, Ryan reluctantly takes his job. The new responsibility causes problems in South America as the US President escalates the battle on drugs. It also causes problems at the CIA headquarters when power struggles put Ryan into serious peril. Director Philip Noyce delivers another film similar to PATRIOT GAMES. A scene where Ryan's convoy is ambushed on a South American street is brilliantly executed and tense. He again shows a playful game of intelligence chess, but this time the film culminates in a Rambo style rescue. Harrison Ford starts the film as a lighter Ryan with occasional humorous remarks. A new son Alexander Lester as John Ryan, Jr joins Anne Archer and Thora Birch. But their roles are only for continuity. Willem Dafoe is a former agent whose character keeps the audience guessing. This was Harrison Ford's final installment in the sturdy Jack Ryan films. The next film would star Ben Affleck as Ryan. But, this DVD is only A CLEAR AND PRESENT DANGER. The audio transfer is excellent but the video transfer leaves something to be desired in the darker scenes.

Review: Summer of 1994 produced some really good films, including this great action film with Harrison Ford. the acting was great and the story was great. it also had one of the best action sequences ever, the truck caravan scene on the streets in columbia. the director did a wonderful job to make you feel like you were in the trucks exploding around you.

Summary: Better Than Many Films, But Not The Best
Review: After seeing The Hunt For Red October, and seeing previews for The Sum of All Fears, I wanted to see the other two Jack Ryan movies, this and Patriot Games. I was really excited to see this movie because Red October was so good. When it was over, I thought, hmm, this was good, but Red October was better in so many ways. First of all, the plot is a little complex, but I was still able to follow it. Second of all, I've read Rainbow Six, another Clancy novel which has John Clark and Ding Chavez instead of Jack Ryan. Clark and Chavez are both in this movie, but they are nothing like their written counterparts. In Rainbow Six, Clark is a CIA strategic genius chosen to head an international antiterrorist agency. I haven't read Clear and Present Danger, but in the movie, he is portrayed as a cowboy, and a rogue. Chavez in the book is loyal to Clark and would die for him. In the movie, he almost kills him for something that wasn't his fault. Anyway, back to Clear and Present Danger. Harrison Ford is very, very good as Jack Ryan, but I preffered Alec Baldwin, because Ryan is just an analyst, and Baldwin fits that description better than Ford. In this movie, Ford does get into a lot of battles, and in Red October, the only time Baldwin ever touches a gun is at the very end. James Earl Jones is back as Admiral Greer, and he does a good job again, and finally, Willem Dafoe is a great actor, though I don't think that the role of John Clark is right for him if they followed the book. I guess they changed Clark's personality because Dafoe played him. This is a good movie, but I strongly reccomend Red October, and I will review Patriot Games as soon as I see it.
