Rating: Summary: Greatest Action Movie of all time Review: I first caught half of this movie on Starz late one night. I thought it was pretty cool so I rented it on DVD. It blew me away. This movie is great. It has it all good story, good acting, developed characters, and great action. Chow Yun-fat is way better than Schwarzenegger or any other American action star. This movie is a must buy. I recommend buying The Killer/Hard Boiled together for only $.... Hard Boiled is a great action movie too but the Killer is better. Both are must buys for any action buff.
Rating: Summary: Bring on the Bullets! Review: After watching Chow Yun-Fat's performance in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon I decided I had to see more of this guy in action. I knew he had collaborated with John Woo on a bunch of films in Hong Kong, but I was weary of John Woo after seeing Mission Impossible 2. Boy, was I wrong. This movie rocks. Chow Yun-Fat plays a assasin who is basically trying to get out of the killin folks business. The result is he has to kill MANY more people to do that. In the backround is his old partner who betrayed him, a vengeful cop on his tail, and the women he accidentally shot and blinded that he is now in love with. In the foreground is some of the awesomest, loudest, bloodiest, guns smokin, bullets blazin, mayham ever captured on film. It really is something to behold. I hope this film begins to reach American audiences now that it is available on DVD. It is a great action film worthy of the praise it has been given. I can't wait to see more of the John Woo/Chow Yun-Fat films. Action fans and everyone have got to check this out.
Rating: Summary: Glorious!!! Review: Perhaps the greatest action film of all time. Rivaled only by Hard-Boiled, which had a longer running time and big pyrotechnics. The script may have been lacking if it were an American film, but it matters far less for a foreign action film.
Rating: Summary: A great action flick Review: You can't go wrong with a film made by John Woo starring Chow Yun-Fat. This story about a hit-man with a conscience is very entertaining and shows off Woo's directorial style well.
Rating: Summary: The Killer Review: This is truly the best action flick ever!Full of beautifully choregraphed action sequences that will take your breath away.Directed by John Woo (Mission Impossible 2, Face/Off) the story follows John Chow (Chow Yun-Fat), a hitman with conscience. His life changes when he accidentally blinds Jennie (Sally Yeh), a night-club singer during a violent shoot-out in a club.John decides to take care of her and quit his job, then finally leave the country with her.But his good friend and boss, Sydney (Chu Kong) offers John one last job with a huge sum.John takes the job as he needs money for Jennie's cornea operation on her eyes. But with Inspector Li (Danny Lee) and Sgt.Randy Chang (Kenneth Tsang) in hot pursuit, not to mention an army of thugs also. Will John and Jennie get away in time? You will have to watch it to find out. Stunning performances by Chow Yun Fat and Danny Lee.Woo fans will not be disappointed. All his trade marks are here:stand-off's, use of religion, two guns, friendship, honour etc...There is hardly one boring scene in it.Overall fantastic film!
Rating: Summary: Wow. Woo is a genius. Review: When this movie came out in 89 it got a cult following in America. That was because it was better then any other american action flick released at the time. better then those arnold and stallonem movies. This film is Woo's 2nd best film ever made, the first being hardboiled. Everything about this movie is sheer genius. The cinematography is excellent, the movie looks great. Woo is perhaps the best director ever, its a toss-up between him and Kubrick, though Woo is most certainly the greatest ACTION director ever, even though the non-action scenes are always shot with grace and beauty. Then of course as with all Woo there is the action. the beautifully choreographed scenes of mayhem and death. Thrilling gun battles in this movie. lots of them. Chow f--ks everyone up in this one with his twin .45's. Chow is truly the coolest HK actor EVER! He moves so gracefully and looks so cool while killing all the bad guys. His body count makes Arnold look meek. Danny Lee and the guy who played Sidney were especially impressive. Sidney's character was so real. you saw his pain as he had to chose between a friend as the mob. Woo is a powerfull film maker and this movie is more emotionally involving then those crappy historyical dramas hollywood likes to put out, the ones that win oscars. But those suck. This movie rules. Violent, cool, awesome. BUY THIs. The final battle is mind boggling and unlike anything you have ever seen. the ending is brilliant.
Rating: Summary: Classic Woo and Fat Review: Written and directed by John Woo. This epitomizes the style and genius of this director. Chow Yun Fat is at his best struggling to act out his moral conscience in spite of his dark trade. This movie is by far the best of the Woo/Fat movies.
Rating: Summary: It KILLS. Review: This is one of the most, if not the most, in-your-face shoot-out films I ever saw since Scarface. And the best thing about this movie is that obscenity is practically NON-EXISTANT here. That's the beauty of it. Many are praiseworthy about this film, but re the ending, I prefer to think that the lady got her sight back. Heck, it's a movie, but what a film. John Woo's over-the-top piece of work. It's a killer, alright.
Rating: Summary: This is the way to be introduced to John Woo and Chow Yun-Fa Review: This film has the quick paced double barrel blazing, high octane action you come to expect from John Woo, tempered with the dramatic charisma of Chow Yun-Fat. This is by far my favorite film in their long list of collaboration.
Rating: Summary: A true masterpiece in every way!! Review: Have u seen the following American films: Desperado, Reservior Dogs, Bad Boys, The Corruptor, The MAtris THe Replacement Killers..The people who directed them all owe a debt to the WOO!! He inovated the action film. He is the best thing to happen to action films since Sam Pickinpah. no exageration. he has made some truly amazing films. The Killer is his 2nd best. the story of a hitman trying to escape from the mob. a great movie. CHOW YUN FAT SHOULD BE NAMED CHOW YUN PHAT!! He is truly the s--t in this as he blows away armies of bad guys w/ twin .45's! really cool. Even between the awesome action the story does not slag because of nice acting from the 2 leads. the ending church shootout is amazing. WARNING: if you see this movie and the other woo stuff, you will start to be bored with many american action films because most suck compared to this. if you like this movie i would recommend you see the following John Woo films: A Better Tomorrow, A BEtter Tomorrow 2, Bullet in the Head, Hardboiled, Broken Arrow, Face/Off and M:I 2. some of these are great and all have brilliant action scenes. Woo is GOD!!
