Summary: A Well-Done Art Action Film.
Review: Some movies are made to be seen for the effect and drama and emotion, others are made just to be entertaining and to drink in the visuales, "The Replacement Killers" is just that kind of a movie. This is a film to admire and view for it's look, for it's style and the artistic touch it brings to scenes of violence. In fact, there is no need for a story, there is only a script and plot to make sense of what's happening on screen. You really can't expect an intelligent plot in a movie titled "The Replacement Killers," but this isn't about story or drama, it's about style. It's an excellent American debut for Chow Yun-Fat, who really knows how to make these films. It's no wonder it was produced by John Woo, one if not the greatest of action filmmakers. Take away the plot and you see that this is a very well-done action piece, with scenes that deserve to be seen twice for the detail in the cinematography, the colors, the detail in the violence and action. The entire film is one rich work. Add that to the soundtrack, full of great techno as well as Oriental music. It's a hyper and active piece that shows how violence can be turned into an art form through the art of film. "The Replacement Killers" is entertaining and yes, the story is interesting, but I enjoyed it because of all the style on screen. This is an ART film at the most. Like "Blade" or "Spawn," "The Replacement Killers" should just be appreciated as an art film. It's never boring to watch. A well-done action piece.

Summary: A Briefcase Spraying Bullets
Review: Absolutely Chow Yun-Fat is an impressive presence, but more impressive are some of the action sequences.

If you like action films and the HK action genre, this is an interesting blend. Versus HK films, these action sequences are less physical, but enhanced with more interesting hardware. In one sequence, while chasing Chow Yun-Fat one of the replacement killers is carrying a briefcase. I'm thinking "What's in the briefcase?" The killer spots Yun-Fat and doesn't open the briefcase to produce a weapon, but starts shooting at him with the briefcase itself. A submachine gun is inside and the briefcase's handle has a trigger. Eventually the killer decides that the briefcase isn't accurate enough; flips it open and takes out and reloads the H&K MP5K that's inside, and continues on. Cool. (Shockingly, this briefcase is a factory option from H&K.)

Not quite The Killer meets Heat, but close enough.

Summary: high impact movie
Review: This movie was awesome, fast moving and high octane action. don't listen to the critics, they tend to over analyze the movie. Chow yun fat fired over 500 rounds from two guns and it was awesome. I think this was his best movie because it was done in the US and because of that, you get excellent cinematography. The plot was simple and yet full of high speed adrenaline pumping action. Outstanding scenary fused with high flying action. The opening scene filmed in mayan theater disco tech is precious. And the ending scenes are unforgetable. Make sure you see it on DVD. This movie rocks.

Summary: well if you say who cares about drama, it has cool gunfights
Review: i wouldn't say that, the gunfights are weak and hollywooded up. see A Better Tomorrow 2 for a real gunfight. this movie has more squibs going off on walls and windows than people. antoine did a miserable job trying to make chow yun fat act like sylvester stallone or clint eastwood. he's got more talent than this. but not to say every chow movie has to be like a hong kong john woo movie, but it looks like thats what they were going for and they failed. see it on HBO, chow yun fat is the only reason to watch it even if they limit his acting skills bigtime. check The Killer out for a good chow movie.

Summary: It sucks!
Review: I was thrilled when I heard that Chow Yun Fat would make his first American flick....I m biggest fan of Yun Fat. I rushed to theater to watch it. I found it very boring film. Yun Fat was not himself in this film, because of his lousy English. What more, Yun Fat's character in this film was so stiff. I was very disappointed to see him acting like this one.

Summary: .
Review: The only thing this lame action flick has going for it is the presence of Chow-Yun Fat. Chow-Yun Fat is cool, but the movie is quite bad. The action sequences are candy-coated, ultra-glossy, less violent, slow-motion-ridden versions of much, much, much better gunfighting sequences from Chow's Hong Kong films, and the plot is dull and underdeveloped. Mira Sorvino is utterly out of place and annoying everytime she comes onto the screen. I just: "Ugh ... it's that annoying chick again." She does a poor job with an already uncondonable character. Really disappointing stuff ... only Chow puts it at 2 stars. That boy has charisma.

Summary: Great movie
Review: This movie is a must see for anyone who likes action. Chow and Mira make a great team and Americans are in for a treat with the arrival of Chow to the american movie scene. Great Movie.

Summary: Dull, Over-Used Plot? Who cares?!?
Review: So what if The Replacement Killers is thin on story? It's has great action, guns, girls, music, and more guns and that's everything action movies need to be. Chow Yun-Fat is great and I hope he becomes as big in the USA as he is in Hong Kong.

Summary: This film is bad!
Review: The scope of htis film was small. THe way the action was captured seemed cramped and constrained within the frame.

Terrance Lam the producer came to my school once and talked about this film. He said that the original script was much better than the final draft. I believe him. The colors and look of the film was wonderful. But the action and plot are less than desireable.

On top of that the whole story seemed rushed to me. I would sell my copy for less than I bought it for!

Summary: More bullets than words
Review: The minimal dialog and incredibly boring and predictable script in this movie is simply filler between the ridiculous number of gunfights. There is nothing clever or original here at all. Just one gunfight after another. The only worthy element of the movie is the cinematography.
