Rating: Summary: In the Xander Zone? Sort of. Review: Following an extreme stunt involving an pro-music censorship senator's red Camaro (or was it a Corvette?), videotaping the destruction of said car while he parachutes to safety, Xander Cage is apprehended by scarred NSA Agent Augustus Gibbons. After passing a series of tests, Xander, soon nicknamed XXX by Gibbons, is sent on a mission to infiltrate Anarchy 99, a group of former Soviet military soldiers who stayed behind in the Czech Republic following the collapse of Communism. Led by Yorgi, who looks like an evil version of Rowan Atkinson with greasy, scraggly hair, they are planning something, but they manage to kill an NSA agent (Xander's predecessor) during a packed performance by Rammstein, who play 'Feuer Frei.' The German techno-metal group's pyrotechnics and the frenzy of the club hints at the kind of excitement to follow.Xander Cage is definitely the diametric opposite of James Bond. Cage is more slovenly, a hulking barbarian with heavily tattooed arms compared to the suave 007. He gets things done more by brute force and his hoarse voice is a throwback to both Sylvester Stallone and Steven Seagal. And he's got a bad attitude that annoys his superiors. Face it, this is the guy who videotapes himself doing stunts such as the one involving the Camaro'i.e. being in the Xander Zone, and selling videos abroad. Definitely a shameless self-promoter. This is the first time I've seen Vin Diesel, and as such, he's all right, brutally powerful, intelligent (watch how he succeeds in the first test) but not exactly the kind of person one would like unless one had the skin of a rhinoceros. Asia Argento (B Monkey, The Stendahl Syndrome), daughter of Italian horrormeister Dario Argento, does well for herself in her Hollywood debut as Yelena, a member of Yorgi's inner circle. She's well the tough and strong-willed type, with a feline sexiness. However, the chemistry between her and Diesel seem mismatched. She works better with a more passive partner, as she did in B Monkey. Samuel Jackson is more restrained compared to his other movies, but when Vin Diesel's the main character, what's to expect? The concept of having a scarred superior was also used in the Airwolf TV series of the 1980's, the one-eyed Alex Cord to Jan-Michael Vincent. And the audience is clearly geared towards a younger audience. Can you picture James Bond on a snowboard? That scene begins by a parachuted drop down a snowy slope, culminating in an avalanche that buries Xander's pursuers. An exciting and well realized scene to be sure, but the parachute down the mountain was also done in Bond. Another nod to Bond is the use of high-tech gadgets and a technical staff member. The scene where Xander jumps over an exploding warehouse in Colombia did elicit an 'Oh, come on!' from me. OK, action films do require some suspension of disbelief, but it didn't work this time. Provided that the series tries not to rip off or replace James Bond, XXX has the potential to be a new action franchise, especially if they stay with one actor.
Rating: Summary: James Bond can retire now!!! Review: My initial reaction as I left the theatre was that James Bond could retire now hat XXX was out there. Fun, energy packed, great stunts and in sync with today's youth cultural icons. I loved it.
Rating: Summary: Vin Is ExXxtremely awesome! Review: I got three words for you all.............. BUY THIS MOVIE! K, that's all. Bye
Rating: Summary: XXX Review: This movie is just like a James Bond wannabee, the cars the gadgets , are all copied from some James Bond movies. I am an avid fan of James Bond movies and I am not saying that I being a James Bond fan is bias in commenting this movie, but this movie and all its cast & characters still cannot hold a candle to all the James bond movies.
Rating: Summary: awesome action packed Review: This movie was one of the best action movies I have ever seen! Even if you don't like action movies you'll like this one it is so diverse with the action stunts they appeal to anyone. This isn't just another "action" movie that is "bang em up shoot em up" type of thing.....sure there is a little of that but it's soooo much more, it's awesome!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Much Better than Bond Review: What a refreshing change to see the lovely Vin Diesel challenging the bond type movies. This movie was packed with action and very good stunts, many of which were carried by Vin himself.
Rating: Summary: Replaces "American Outlaws" as worst movie I've ever seen Review: Whenever I go to see an action movie, I tend to tell my brain to just relax and not think too hard. When I was dragged to see "xXx" by a group of friends, I had to tell my brain to completely shut off. Even THAT didn't allow me to enjoy the movie! xXx was undoubtedly the worst movie that I have ever seen. I think to create this movie, the writer and director watched Austin Powers and said to themselves, "let's take all the things that this movie makes fun of, place them in an action movie with a hot star, and make them think it's a serious movie!" The bad guy is dumber than Dr. Evil. In order for Vin Diesel to infiltrate the enemy's base, he basically has to crouch around, and the doors aren't locked either! I am a huge fan of action films. I love Aliens, Terminator 2, The 6th Day, Soldier, etc., etc. Many action films that I love aren't big thinker movies, but at least they are more than just a two-hour long cliche! Every character in xXx is a paper-thin cut-out taken from the "Typical Action Movie" coloring book. The dialogue is horrendous, and the one-liners aren't witty (but you can expect A LOT of them). Most action movies include suspense. This movie didn't have one ounce of it. Everything was so predictable. Even without thinking about the outcome, I knew it. The bad guys were so obviously bad that their fates were sealed from the beginning. Vin Diesel will overcome any real danger, because he is loved by teens all over. I give it 0/5 stars. There wasn't one redeeming quality in this movie.
Rating: Summary: As a movie; 1 star - The Soundtrack; 5 stars ++ Review: The story/script? -zero. -Absolutely NO surprises, -terrible predictable all the way through! And; -just one or two of about 30 "funny" one-liners where funny. The acting? where there any actors involved in this production? Vin has the charm, but isn't much of an actor. Then again, I don't think this is the movie to judge his capacity as an actor... -Even Jackson couldn't save this script. -That is actually quite an achivement; -to make Jackson seem like a bad actor... My favourite character is actually the young "office-agent" coming to deliver all the "mrQ"-gadgets. But the soundtrack is worth going to a cinema several times! Be sure to pick a THX-theatre!! -It's a knockout!
Rating: Summary: Extreme Fun Review: Simply loved it. Loved Vin, loved Asia and loved the cheesy one liners. xXx has a simple plot, suitably inept bad guys and lots of very cool stunt scenes. Xander Cage is adorable, Jackson totaly (and appropriately) hams it up as the long suffering Gibbons and Yilena manages to be tough, sexy and lady like in one fell swoop (qualities to often missing from our female action stars). It's just for fun don't expect to be challenged or educated. Sit back, switch off and enjoy the pretty people in the loud and exciting action scenes like i have done three times already.
Rating: Summary: Nobody's Hero Review: One poster stated that Diesel was jealous of Bond. I would argue that this movie presents a new twist on the Bond style, it takes a 'low life', a nobody's hero, and transforms him in to a elite secret agent. This movie is less about James Bond style plot and more about extreme action and visuals. I enjoyed it. My point is if you're looking for thick Bond-like plot go watch Bond.
