Rating: Summary: What the heck happened!?!? Review: I have to agree...that this is the first, and hopefully the last, Sly flick that I thought sucked. He's been panned by the critics forever but I have enjoyed every one of his films. I love Judge Dredd by the way. Whomever this director is... It was a mistake to sit in the front row because the car chases made me dizzy. I had no idea what was happening! There were no establishing shots, just blurry closeups of car headlights rushing past. At least it was some action though. I don't think there is a single gunshot in the film. "Get Carter" tries to be art-house and it just doesn't work. This was obvious 10 minutes in and I hoped it would go away but it didn't. Carter is also a complete idiot. He goes back and forth to different characters, ready to beat them up. Then they say, "I didn't do it" and he's like "Oh, sorry". Then he finds another clue pointing to the same person and he does the same thing again. He also suffers from one-liner syndrome. The one thing that makes me cringe in Judge Dredd is when he keeps saying "I knew you'd say that". BLECH! Unfortunately he does the same in this. "You don't wanna know me" precedes every fight. Stop it Sly, stop it! The film has an interesting twist at the end that gives it a little life, but ultimately it fails. I hated every character. Michael Caine, whom I normally love, was plagued with insipid dialogue that must have physically pained him to say. Halfway through I went to the bathroom and noticed that "Pay It Forward" was playing across the hall. If it hadn't started 15 minutes earlier I would have switched theaters. I had faith that "Get Carter" would get better and I was sorely dissapointed.
Rating: Summary: Get Carter -Save your money Review: This movie really dragged. The first 10 mins were bad and it got worst. The dialog just dragged along, you were waiting for something to happen and it just never did.
Rating: Summary: Get Carter and get rooked! Review: This movie is one thing and one thing only, Painful! You want to save yourself the admission fee and get the same feel of this movie? Eat that bucket of seven day old chicken your roommate left out and rent any B grade tough guy movie. (A Van Damme flick should do just fine) Have your buddy shine a flashlight in your eyes at the climax of every action sequence and be sure to spin your chair around a few times to get the special queasy feeling. When you feel like your going to vomit just remember that I saved you $8.00!
Rating: Summary: Murder Review: In a strangely inconsistent move, Warner Bros. has decided to screen the Sylvester Stallone movie, Get Carter (2000), to critics in some cities but not in others. Today's USA Today complained that "critics have been locked out of the theater." Joe Morgenstern in the Wall Street Journal remarked that the producers of Get Carter (2000) "have declined to screen the film for critics, thus providing their own review." But the Philadelphia Inquirer's movie critic, Steven Rea, reviews it today ("thuddingly dull .... moves along with virtually no rhythm, no suspense, and no spark from the morose goateed star"), and so does Jay Carr in the Boston Globe ("The film mostly just plays dark, wet, and heavy. It's the cinematic equivalent of wet cardboard.").
Rating: Summary: This Movie Is BAD very BAD Review: This is the first Stallone movie that I did not like. There is nothing wrong with Stallone's performance. It's the director. It's the movie. It's bad, very bad. It was like watching a music video for 2 hours. Another director could have turned this into an excellent and entertaining film. If you ever get a chance to see the original, do so. That was a good tough hard hitting film with emotional impact. You wanted to see Carter get revenge in that one. This new movie, which looked like it was going to be good, was a big let down. It's now the year 2000. There are no good guys in this movie. There all bad or indifferent, and that seems to be a sign of the times. That makes for no emotional impact at all. Have a nice day.
Rating: Summary: STALLONE'S WORST MOVIE SINCE 'THE SPECIALIST' Review: i was looking forward to seeing the remake of GET CARTER with sly stallone taking the jack carter role originally played with meanness by michael caine. seeing the film yesterday made me wanna add a 5th star to caine's '71 classic. my jaw dropped in horror, & the audience was laughing at the wrong moments while some left during the 1/2 way point. this is one godawful remake! poorly directed, poorly acted and poorly written. caine has a small role wasted here as a bar owner. mickey rourke as a computer porn merchant looks as if he's still in straight-to-video features like THURSDAY & ANOTHER 9 1/2 WEEKS. and poor stallone has another failed comeback attempt in GET CARTER. check out his size 86 suits. i thought sly was gonna morph into The Incredible Hulk any minute. stick with the sleek original wonderfully done by veteran Mike Hodges. director Stephen Kay destroys the remake.
Rating: Summary: Stallone still has `All The Right Moves` Review: Explosive and Well made remake of the classic 1971 revenge thriller of the same name staring Michael Caine who has a supporting role in this version. Stallone plays Jack Carter, a vicious hitman with a devasting meanstreek in him comes back to his hometown for his brother`s funeral and finds out his brother was murdered and sets off on a bloody and viloent path to find the killers. Exact duplicate of the original but this was much more viloent, and Stallone has never looked better you can tell when he is beating guys up with anything from his fist to a beer glass. I never thought Stallone would be the first choice for this film but after seeing the advance preview last night my mind was completly changed. You can tell Sly Stallone was prepared to take on this role both mentally and phisically. Great action authentic locals Stallone still has all the right moves when it comes to action films he may be getting older but he is still able to pull off a convincing performance. The orginal GET CARTER is by far still the best But the producers and everyone involved did a great job in creating a true remake which is a near masterpiece to the Original.
Rating: Summary: Carter II Review: Although the "Get Carter 2000" script is another prime example of a Hollywood "dumb down" (e.g. "La Femme Nikita" and "Point Blank" turning into "Point Of No Return" and "Payback"), the basic plot, concerning a low-life thug investigating his estranged brother's suspicious death, remains intact. The film is big on atmosphere; the "noirish" rain-washed Seattle milieu does the seedy storyline proud. Stallone looks a bit peaked these days to play strongarm types, although it does make Carter's world weary burnout play more convincingly than his ability to intimidate people. Supporting performances range from good (Mickey Rourke, who has apparently been taking elocution lessons, as well as baths) to adequate (the wonderful Miranda Richardson has a thankless part, and original "Carter" Michael Caine is not given a lot to work with either) to grating (Alan Cumming plays his nerdy software billionaire villian too broadly). The film is still quite watchable, likely more enjoyable for those who haven't seen the original British film. We can only pray that Mr. T. doesn't appear in "Carter III".
Rating: Summary: GET CRACK!!!! Review: You'll need it to stay awake!
Rating: Summary: A GOOD ACTION THRILLER Review: Vegas "financial adjuster", Jack Carter (Sylvester Stallone), makes a living by making sure people pay their debts. A dirty job, but somebody has to do it!Jack's brother has been killed in a car accident leaving behind a wife, and a daughter (Miranda Richardson, Rachel Leigh Cook). Feeling guilty about NOT having any contact with his brother over the years, Carter decides to go to Seattle to make things right. Once there, he will question if in fact his brother really died in an accident, or was he murdered... Carter wants answers, and nothing or nobody will stand in his way of getting those answers. In his quest he will come into contact with a host of shady characters, his brother's not-so innocent partner (Michael Caine), a computer mogul (Alan Cummings) with something to hide, and a seedy porn producer (Mickey Rourke). Carter needs to get his brother's killer, before they "Get Carter". "Get Carter" is a much better action film than one might expect; it is beautifuly shot, with fast-action, and an intricate plot. Stallone does his usual as the tough-guy Carter, and it works (with the exception of some cheesy line's "My name is Carter, and YOU DON'T want to know me" among others). Mickey Rourke is perfectly cast as the hip, but seedy porn producer. Miranda Richardson, Rachel Leigh Cook, Alan Cummings, and Michael Caine all turn in great performances in their supporting roles. "Get Carter" is a good choice for a step-up from the norm in the action genre. Nick Gonnella
