Summary: The most practical sniping movie i have ever seen.
Review: I have watched this movie so many times that I can recap any part of the movie. The best is coming home after the bar and watching it drunk. However, the acting was teriffic, the plot was excellent, and the action was great. This movie is based on the one "Carlos hathcock II", the greatese sniper there ever was. It really outlines the events of his life and goes into detail about the effects of war on an individual. I highly recommend this movie.

Summary: COOL MOVIE !!!
Review: I know this really isn't a 5 star movie, but to me, it is. I really like this movie a lot. Miller (Billy Zane) was a wimp throughout most of this film. He finally toughens up in the end, after he realizes that Becket (Tom Berenger) will die, do to his screw ups. ... "Sniper 2" came out. I haven't seen it yet. I plan on watching it this week. It's probably not as good as the first one.

Summary: Most accurate depiction of a USMC sniper in a fiction movie
Review: I picked this movie because I plan on being a Marine Scout/Sniper myself in the future, and this movie was right up my alley. The movie has plenty of action and and is very accurate as to what a sniper has to do before he takes his shot.Things like windage and bullet-drop compensation on the sniper scope, and breath control, as opposed to other movies featuring snipers that depict sniping as an easy thing that just consists of pointing and shooting. I think Tom Berenger even the M40A1 sniper rifle used standardly by Marine Snipers in real life. All this makes for a great sniper movie with heardly any BS.

Summary: Tom Berenger is great.
Review: I really like Tom Berenger a lot. He's great at playing hard-assed characters, if you liked him in PLATOON, you'll love him in this movie. He is much better than anyone else at acting military characters, much better than stallone or kurt russell, but he can also act something different than some semper-fi marine, like in GETTYSBURG,whe he acted Gen. Longstreet. my four stars really only go to him though, and the guy who did the research (as the sniping details were pretty acurate). Billy Zane should just stick to titanic though, I couldn't figure out whether he was a good guy who didn't know what he was doing(and who lost it at the end),or whether he was a jerk-off pentagon politician who didn't care about anything except his next promtion. The directing was bad, exceptfor the slow moving bullet, and the story was pretty dumb too. But if your tired of phony body builders acting warriors, this is a great movie.Definitely worth $9.

Summary: Good film
Review: I rented sniper on VHS when it first came out. I think it is the BEST sniper movie available. Well I have long awaited it's arrival on DVD. When it did come out I hurried and purchased it.

While the audio lacks a little, everything else about the film I remember still drew me in!

Get this DVD if you are an espionage fanatic.....and don't count on a Dolby Digital release.

Summary: A Very Entertaining Film
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed this film. I've heard numerous times that this movie was to be a tribute to real life United States Marine Carlos Hathcock. If this in fact was a tribute to Gunny Hathcock I feel that it paid tribute to him in a way that he probably could have appreciated.Tom Berenger is probably the best actor to portray a no b.s., efficient military operator that Hollywood has to offer. His presence is enough to make you want to like who he is portraying.

Unless you are a USMC sniper you really have no way of knowing how true to life this movie actually is. I have spoken to a number of men serving with STA and they have given this movie mostly a thumbs up. USMC SS Tom Ferran was a consult on the set so that explains why many aspects of this movie are very good. Obviously there are some technical blunders where the producers have decided that entertainment is more important than reality.

The plot for this movie is very simple; sneak in, eliminate your target, sneak out. If you don't appreciate the fieldcraft of sniping you will probably not like this movie. Much of the film is very slow paced and more like a drama. There are a few scenes with explosions, lots of shooting, etc. I like this movie because the makers didn't completely sell out the legacy of the USMC snipers to make an action packed film.

I liked this movie because there wasn't a whole lot of unecessary action, though there was some. The movie was pretty slow paced and that is something many snipers can probably appreciate. If you have never studied sniping you'll probably not think much of this film. If you have studied it, you just may like the movie.

Summary: annoying
Review: I usually enjoy a Tom Berenger movie but was disappointed with this one. Tom Berenger (jungle dude and sniper) and the other guy (a government twit sent along to pester Tom and cause all sorts of trouble, kind of like an armed George Stephanopolous) are sent to Panama to 'take out' a bad guy. The problem is Miller (government guy) doesn't seem to know much of anything and refuses to listen to someone who does (Berenger). After a while, this became annoying and I kept waiting for Tom to whack him over the head with something. Unfortunately, he never does. In a scene where they are sneaking through a barnyard, I was waiting for Miller to step on a chicken when he was walking backwards-SQUAWK!! Neat parts of the movie are when Tom Berenger disguises himself as a haystack and watching the Panamanian militia run through the jungle like a bunch of squirrels. I gave this movie 2 stars because you get to watch Tom Berenger.

Summary: The best of the worst
Review: If you're reading these reviews and not getting why there are so many different opinions about this movie it's because of this:

If there was a list of the best bad movies to watch, Sniper would be #1.

The movie is loved by Sniper-lover-types because its the only one of its kind that tries to delve into what it's like to be a Sniper. Patience, Timing, Accuracy etc are all very well portrayed in this movie. And let's face it, there's not much Sniper-lover stuff out there.

The movie is both loved and hated by regular everyday movie goers because it's story is wacky and the one liners are just as wacky. The overacting is hilarious and the insanity of it is too funny.

I've watched it twice because I thought it was hilarious. It's the type of movie a bunch of pals would get together and watch and make fun of: no drama, no thought, just Sniper! The movie [...]in and kept me watching, which by my definitions makes it entertaining.

Summary: No dolby digital?
Review: Last year when I rented Sniper from the movie store, I was excited about the movie because of its extraordinary sound. The dolby digital produced an ambience of jungle sounds that drew me into the movie's setting; much like the rain in Matrix. But be careful: this version has only dolby surround sound. Perhaps the best thing about the movie was not part of this deal. I was snookered, but only because I did not look closely enough at what I was buying. Watch out.
