Summary: Good fx, tried and true plot, decent primary cast.
Review: I actually enjoyed this movie - the pace was quick, the acting well done, and I have to admit - I really hadn't expected Bill Paxton in the role of "bad guy".

Was the movie believable? Probably not. But that's not why we see movies, is it? Or at least, that's not why I watch a movie. Was Terminator believable? Or any Steven Segal movie?

We watch movies to see ordinary people lead extra-ordinary lives. And I think this movie fills that order.

Are there some Hollywood cliches? Of course. But the acting was solid. The motivation for both siblings' career choices are clear. The secondary characters were all pretty funny.

All in all - this was a good movie and I don't consider the time I spent watching it wasted.

Although, to be fair, my opinion may be jaded because I saw this on cable the other night.

Perhaps, if I had spent [money] in a movie theater for the pleasure of the big screen and a tub of popcorn, I wouldn't be nearly so kind.

Summary: Disgrace To Climbing
Review: I was quite excited to watch this movie at first, but after about 30 minutes, if that. I was disgusted. This movie lacks every aspect of real-life climbing. As a fellow mountaineer I found this movie to be a disgrace. Using explosives, too much dramma, a helicopter at 20,000 plus feet, and poor ridiculous mistakes clearly gives anyone who truely knows climbing a sense that the producers knew nothing of the sort. For example, when Chris O'Donnell jumps from one cliff to the other. That particular jump would have ripped his arms right off, nonetheless, running in crampons. Very poor, put together movie. This movie gives viewers a false image of what true climbing entails. "Don't watch it/Don't waste your time."

Summary: Good Action Film
Review: This is a story that has already been done.... Adventurers get in trouble, rescue team is assembled from various experts and ameteurs, the rescue team has troubles during the rescue, someone on the rescue team has an agenda to keep with one of the victims and finally, the good guy gets the girl.....

Aside from that well worn plot, this film is pretty good. I have the full DD 5.1 setup. The sounds during the action sequences is superb. I watched it with my son and we cranked up the volume. Almost to room shaking....

I thought the actors/actresses were very believable and played their parts well. Some of the parts were a little not believable, but for this film, you can overlook them and still enjoy it.

Summary: Vertical Limit... lands with a thud...
Review: Not being fond of heights to begin with, I found little reason to be twitching in my seat while viewing this one...After the disasterest beginning sequence the rest of the movie paled in comparison to other climbing thrillers in recent years like "Cliffhanger" and "K2"... although backed by precision special effects in the action scenes... the story itself was too predictable and that is where the movie failed...

Summary: Not geared for 13 year olds!
Review: My son is 15 years old. I thought since this movie was a pg-13 movie I could let him watch it. I really thought this movie was way too graphic for kids! Is it necessary to have so much violence in an action movie for kids?

Summary: Too violent and graphic for a pg-13 movie!
Review: I let my 15 year old son watch this movie thinking that since it is a pg-13 movie my 15 year old should have no problem watching this. Well I was wrong! Occasionaly I would check on the movie to see how it was but I had no idea how graphicaly violent it was! My 15 year old will never watch it again! I thought it was a little strong on the reality side! I suggest anyone with children age 13 should view it before they do. I wish I had with my son. It really supprised me!

Summary: A entertaining movie with some minor flaws. Still, SEE IT!
Review: My friends still tell me how stupid I was to buy the DVD. I disagree. I thought this movie was very entertaining. Vertical Limit was one of those movies where every little detail went wrong and added more to the story. For some movies, this idea went well. But I think that it was the exact opposite of that. The story had some pretty wild parts. Some very unbelievable, corny, and very stupid parts. I thought they were cool at first, but then watched it for a second time seeing that it was just pretty stupid. All in all, I think this is not a bad movie. I just thought it could have been better. It was entertaining the first time but got old fast. But still, SEE IT!!

Summary: Climbing to the top
Review: I hate to break it to all the people who thought that this movie was bad because it seemed so unbelievable, but this movie is very realistic. Take it from a climber, everything that happened in that movie, CAN AND DOES HAPPEN IN REAL LIFE. Granted, the idea that those things all happening all at once in a sequence of a day is not common. But the realism of the movie to any real climber is strong.
As for the acting, I agree, there were some short-comings on that front. I wasn't too impressed with Chris O'Donnell, though I did think that Scott Glen did a wonderful job. Then again, how may real good actors are out there today...
If you are looking for a wild ride that is based on the REALITY of climbing and the danger that climbers face, this is a great movie. If you are looking for a movie that has superb acting and a super story line, look elsewhere.

Summary: Great Action Packed Movie!
Review: This movie will keep you on the edge of your seat. If you have a theater sound system, crank it up. The movie is great, the sound track is great, and the acting is great....If you know anything about climbing, some of the things that are done would never ever happen.

Summary: Hollywood invades the Mountain
Review: I love mountain climbing movies. I watch them all. I was charged for the release of this movie, and watched it with anticipation. In short, it was absolutely the WORST movie I have ever seen! The plot was thin, the concept ridiculous, and the acting poor.

As a climber, I found the only accurate part of this movie was the credits. For an excellent review of the making of the movie you might look in Rock and Ice magazine, where a real climber was on board for the filming.

Imagine, climbing with nitro on your back for hours, and then all of a sudden it is a big emergency that the sun will cause it to explode. Good thing they found that out just in the knick of time!!! Golly gee!!

Perhaps the worst travesty was they made Ed Viesturs look bad, which is unforgiveable. He truly is a hero, and a superb mountain man. Shame on the producers of this film.
