Rating: Summary: Vin Diesel is one bad.. *Shut Yo' Mouth!* Review: It's undeniable. Vin Diesel IS the next big action star. He has the required elements of being big and strong and looking like he's big and strong... and, unlike muscle-brained knuckleheads like Stallone, Schwarzenneger, and Seagal, Vin Diesel has undeniable charisma. He showed potential signs of being a star in "Saving Private Ryan" and "Boiler Room", but his first really star-making effort was as the escaped killer, Riddick, in the sci-fi/horror flick "Pitch Black". His presence helped elevate the movie from a forgettable popcorn flick to a memorable, cult film that really hit it big when it made it to video. Diesel got an even meatier part the following summer as one of the leads in the box office hit "The Fast and Furious". After that movie, Hollywood was buzzing about Diesel.
Now, it comes time for the ultimate test of Hollywood bank-ability... can Diesel open an action film on his own and achieve box office success while also make a positive impression with critics and fans alike? In "XXX", the answer is a most resounding YES!!!! "XXX" is derivate of James Bond films in many ways, but it comes across as more of a tribute to those films as opposed to a rip-off. This movie comes complete with everything the Bond formula requires: the spectacular opening scene, the evil European arch-villain, the breathtaking scenery, the bevy high-tech gadgets, and, of course, the sexy women. The opening scene involves the stealing of a fancy car to embarrass a stuck-up congressman, and then driving the car off a very high bridge and having Diesel character, Xander Cage, parachute out of the car and record everything while the car smashes upon impact. His buddies then pick him up and beat a hasty retreat before the police can get him. This is right on par with any number of spectacular stunts performed in the opening scene of a Bond film. Unlike Bond films, though, "XXX" offers something slightly different from the suave, tuxedo-wearing, martini-drinking super agent. It gives the audience a rebellious, hell-raising, tattoo-mottled anti-hero who is bane of authority everywhere.
Xander Cage is a man who likes to thumb his nose at the law and make his name via death-defying stunts and pointed messages that are shown via an underground web site. Alas, that last stunt involving the fancy car attracted a little too much attention and he was quickly busted. However, it wasn't local police that got him; it was the National Security Agency (NSA). The NSA, and lead agent Augustus Gibbons (Samuel L. Jackson), want him as he is the 'best of the best of the bottom of the barrel'. It seems that standard secret agents keep getting compromised and killed in the Czech Republic trying to infiltrate a fringe terrorist group called Anarchy 99. Getting wordlier, sleazier, and more expendable person to get inside seems to be the better option. Xander is that man. He shows Gibbons all the characteristics and abilities of a person he would feel comfortable sending on a mission of this nature. In return, all of Xander's recent transgressions will be wiped from the record. This type of setup gives "XXX" a fresh feel to the already crowded spy genre. Given Xander's background, there is always a little sense of concern over who he will side with when push comes to shove. The action scenes and drama are quite well crafted (One in particular involves Xander intentionally starting an avalanche to wipe out a communication station and snowboarding down hill to try and stay ahead of the snow).
How the movie ends isn't terribly important. Knowledge that the studio intends to make a franchise out of "XXX" tells the audience enough already. Its journey to that ending that is particularly enthralling. If "XXX" is the way of the future for action films, audiences should be quite pleased for years to come.
Rating: Summary: A Total Testosterone-Laced, Adrenaline Driven Action Flick! Review: This movie to totally cool. It's got explosions, big guns, fast cars, extreme sports, sultry women in lingerie and expolsions. Vin Diesel plays Xander Cage, an extreme sports fanatic who gets busted for stealing a Senator's car and driving it off a bridge. Of course, it was only a Corvette. But the NSA needs someone like Cage to foil a suspected terrorist organization, especially after its last agent was killed (while wearing a tux in a smash pit[talk about old-fashioned]) so it grabs Cage and puts him through a series of tests and sens him to Prague. There Cage infiltrates Anarchy99 by partying with them and stealing cars. He learns that the leader (Csokas) wants to destroy the world with biological weapons so that everyone will be truly free. Cage foils him with the help of a sultry Russian agent and the Czech police in a ball-busting shoot-em-up. Cage then must recover a sub carrying the weapon headed for Prague, which he does in extreme fashion. The threat over, Cage goes to Bora-Bora with the Russian until next time. This flick is a shameless rip-off of Bond movies but it doesn't care and makes up for unoriginality with flair and a touch-in-cheek attitude that makes the viewer unconcerned about it. Diesel looks like he has a great time playing the anti-hero with more one-liners than Schwarzenegger and a "Kiss My ... Scarface" attitude. While definitely a guy flick, I saw several single women in th audience, too so I gues it appeals to everyone. Go see it and be prepared to pound your chest after it's over.
Rating: Summary: Personaly, I rather stirred Review: When i went to see this movie, i didn't have high hopes... from the previews, i thought it looked cheesy, i thought Vin Diesel had marred his streak of good movies and done some cheesy action flick. I was wrong, this movie had some TIGHT action, filled with reall stunts that i wish i could perform. Story? sure.. but i wouldn't write a book about it. it was your standard fan fare, biological weapon, going to destroy the world, so anarchy will reign suppreem. haven't i seen this in like 22 bond films? yeah. so what makes this special? it's just plain cool. great soundtrack, i actualy heard that there are 2 ST's... not one. And, Diesel has this quiet power to him... he doesn't need to tell you he can kick butt, you can tell. Vin is on the up an coming, soon to be superstar, keep a look out for him, and keep a look out for XXX 2.Pro's: *Fast moving *great Action *Vin Deisel Con's: *weak, overused story *some action goes way overboard *Anarch 99? whats that a band? need badder bad guys, and a better name
Rating: Summary: OK, but a letdown. Review: I dissapointed with xXx. I don't think it was a bad movie necessarilly, but simply, a letdown. It looked so exciting, it was being compared with 007, it was by the director of The Fast and the Furious, and starring Vin Diesal, but I just didn't like it that much. I mean, in Columbia, he was flying a gajillion miles high in the air without having jumped off a ramp. Then he's knocking old coke-snortin' geezers false teeth out by doing a tailwhip with his bike. And the superman he pulled while shooting guards, I mean, come on. I think Rob 'Think Playstation' Cohen tried toooo hard to appeal to young audiences and made it silly. & that 007 ...in the beginning rock concert thing was dumb. lalalala. The snowboarding scene was pretty cool, though, even though avalanches travel over the speed of sound. But that's ok. I like over the top sensation, and that scene was cool. But jumping on a motorbike in the middle of a puff plantation where the land is flat is just too much. oh well. c'est la vie. I thought the animation on the ending credits was actually the coolest part. oh yeah, Asia Argento was hot as........oh boy.
Rating: Summary: xXx Can Kick 007's Ass! Review: I never thought "xXx" would be as good as it is. I thought it would be stupid with stupid dialogue, stupid story, stupid everything! But when I saw it, it turned out to be awesome. Vin Diesel isn't that bad of an actor and the stunts are SO SO SO SO SO SO SO cool. Especially the avalanche scene. It's awesome. XXX is definately a different kind of secret agent with a more rough and tough attitude, unlike James Bond but still, it is definately awesome and better than 007. 007 is total secret agent still but not "action-like" secret agent but very suave and clean. XXX in my opinion is a much more realistic secret agent. When XXX goes out on missions, he doesn't go out in a suit or a trench coat with 1,000 dollar shoes. He goes out in flexible and mobile outfits where he can actually do things in unlike a suit. My one regret in the movie is one: the girl has tiny boobs and is not pretty, and two: the ending could've been shorter where he was going to save the world. But in anyway, "xXx" is definately in AWESOME movie and I can't wait till they release the sequel (yes, they're making a sequel).
Rating: Summary: XXX Review: An exiting, action packed movie, with great acting, and good characters.Always unpredictable, leaves you on the edge of your seat the entire movie.Quite possibly the best movie of the year.In my opinion you'd have to be crazy not to like this movie.
Rating: Summary: Vin Diesel is the next James Bond Review: xXx is a high-packed, energy action movie. Vin Diesel was hot, and also did a great job acting as well. I believe that xXx is the new James Bond for the younger "MTV" generation. The stunts are a bit far fetched in certain sections, and hard to believe, but it's a movie! James Bond did it, and did it well. I believe xXx also does the same thing and pulls it off as well. xXx is certainly worth the money, and everyone should go see it!!
Rating: Summary: awsome x's Review: xxx is the best movie of all time. if you like shooting than you'll like this. it has a lot of secret gadgets. Vin Diesel is the best actor. if you like violence you'll like this movie!
Rating: Summary: GREAT MOVIE!!! Review: From the moment the movie starts to the end its a non-stop adreneline rush..Vin Disel playing XXX (Xander)protrayed his role with excellence.. Making his character as a Bad... so real. I really recommend this movie To anyone who just wants to have a good time.
Rating: Summary: Triple X = Piece of S#*+ Review: Man, I was so close to going to seeing this in the theatre, thank god for the internet and movies leaking out the week of release. This movie is nothing but an overhyped commercial flick. It overplays the teen audience to death. Every other scene you see a new stunt and Diesel overplays every scene. You could of put Fast and the Furious 2 in front of this picture and it would of been about the same. Vin Diesel needs to select his roles wisely or he may end up being the next Jean Claude Van Damme.
