Summary: So That's Why...
Review: First let me say, I never saw this in the theaters, rather rented the DVD and I did so for really only one reason. You see, I own a black Dodge Charger (mines a '69 whereas the movies a '70) with a 440 and for the past year or so I have been challenged so many times I had to know what was causing this.
So, one day after completely blowing away some idiot in a canary yellow Toyota with bright blue flames on the side and a spoiler I decided to allow him to catch up (that was more of challenge as my car idles at around 20 mph) and asked him what convinced him and the army of others in similar import cars to think he could even come close to beating me. He said he saw it in this movie so on a whim I decided to give it a shot and I found out something very interesting.
This movie is bad; in fact I would gamble to say it's one of the worst things I have ever seen in my life (on par with 'Speed 2'). The acting was sub-par, the stunts were over-blown, the script was absolute nonsense (and no, I for one cannot just over look that as so many claim I should).
You know, I'm 24 and can... kind of... see why some would like this, but I can't disengage my mind long enough.

Matt

PS - There is no way that '70 Charger in the flick would have a problem beating any car on the road (import or not), let alone what it was racing.

Summary: absolutely pathetic
Review: This movie was absolutely pathetic. It is everything that is wrong with America. The music is obnoxious and moronic, the acting sucks, (...) the plot was wretched, it was horrible! There arent enough adjectives to describe the horror of this movie. "Cool" cars, "hot" women (not really Michelle Rodriguez kinda has a mustache), gangsters, racing, in other words totally original (haha)! The WORST thing about this movie though is that it spawned the creation of other films similar to it that disease our society and rot our minds like XXX, 2Fast2Furious, to name the most obvious.

Summary: DUD!
Review: This movie is complete poo! Nice cars, and women are the only reason why this film got a star. A completely dreadful storyline, and the acting wasnt much better either. Steer clear of this.

Summary: A movie that defies logic
Review: Oh where to begin.

This movie defies logic and presents blatant stupidity.

All right, the plot is rather stupid, but it is something instead of nothing. Paul Walker stars as Officer Brian O'Connor of the LAPD who is on an undercover mission into the world of illegal street racing to try and uncover who is behind a rash of hijackings. He befriends Dominic Toretto (Vin Diesel) who is the "best" street racer in the area as he drives a claimed 10 second third gen RX-7. Toretto is the prime suspect behind the hijackings and it is up to Brian to find out the truth. The plot is passable, not very good, but passable.

The main attraction of the movie is the cars and the racing. I don't know anyone who saw the movie for the plot. We are treated to the typical rice mobiles with their body kits, neon lights, 18" inch wheels, stickers, exhausts, etc etc, and oh who can forget NOS. Even though it never dawned on the writers of the movie that NOS is a brand of nitrous oxide and not what it is universally called. But, that's ok because this movie wasn't made with logic intended.

One the biggest problems with this movie is the fact that they make it sound easy to run 10 seconds in the 1/4 mile. Now I will state that it is possible to make the cars in the movie run 10 seconds, but it's not going to happen when the cars have street tires and 18-19" inch wheels on them.

Want to talk about logic? How is it a 1/4 mile race with 10 second cars seems to take a minute or so to complete? The first race was a joke. Not to mention the "warp speed" effects that occured everytime someone hit the nitrous switch. Then the exchange of dialogue after the race between Paul Walker and Vin Diesel was incredibly cheesy.

The last race is quite possibly the most idiotic thing I have ever seen. A Toyota Supra with a single turbo going up against a blown Dodge Charger is laughable for a 1/4 mile race. Diesel's character states at one point that the Charger ran 9 seconds flat in the 1/4 mile. The Supra was only supposed to be running somewhere in the 10's as they never allude to what any of the claimed 10 second cars run. The Supra with street tires and 19" inch wheels is somehow able to keep up with the Charger even though the Charger pops a wheelie when it launches, and it is on a set of wrinkle walls. So the race ends in a draw then the Charger gets wrecked. Yes I forgot that this movie is supposed to cater to import owners and what not. However, this cannot and would not ever happen.

This movie is good for a one time viewing as I just sit there and laugh at everything wrong with the entire movie. It's become more of a comedy if anything to myself and most people I know who watch it multiple times. As a solid well thought out movie, it fails miserably. If you want any sort of racing movie I would suggest checking out Steve McQueen's "LeMans" film. It's not a street racing movie (it is a professional racing movie) as it came out in 1971 but it is a much better and well made film even though it came out 30 years earlier.

Summary: 4 Flat Tires
Review: I am just going to keep this short:

1. Irresponsible movies like this one which are geared towards stupid and impressionable teens are partly to blame for countless of traffic tragedies.

2. The acting (and I use this turn loosely) is so bad you actually think this is a SNL skit.

3. The plot is moronic at best.

4. The actual racing is not even remotely impressive.

5. How they made a sequel to this trash is more baffling than Astro-Physics.

Summary: 4 Cylinders and a Dream
Review: I was tempted to give this 5 stars because I've rarely seen horrible done so well. This movie's effect had taken hold even before I saw it: I kept wondering why teens in cheap, brightly colored 4-cylinder cars were winding the engines out of what amounts to a fuel-efficient riding-mower with a car body placed on top.

Then I found out.

A movie was out that showed small brightly-colored cars going really fast but, in the movie, they had big engines in them...and "Noz". Apparently, the redneck striplings whizzing by don't think anyone else can tell the difference between the cars in the movie and their moms Honda. I'll bet mechanics the world over are thrilled about this movie and the resulting boon in re-built engines, thrown rods & body-work that they've reaped.

Vin Diesel was perfect for this part in that he looks as dumb as he really is and saves us the tragedy of an actor of real talent being debased in a movie of this caliber.

If you liked this, let me recommend something else on your level: "Coyote Ugly". This combination may be the ultimate double-feature for today's aesthetically-challenged. Dig in and space out!

Summary: great movie
Review: Although the movie is not one of the newest it is still my favorite one, because it is full of action and there are a lot of really cool and fast cars. Perhaps some scenes are a little bit exaggerated, but that is, why I like this actionful movie. Furthermore it is very interesting to get some information about, in which way it is possible to tune a car.
So, I really recommend this movie, especially for people, who like a lot of action and fast cars, too.
Enjoy watching the film...

Summary: Bright lights, fancy vehicles, 0 believability
Review: this is the epitome of the movies I hate. Essentially plotless, unless you consider car chase plot, this is a hour and a half long commercial for sport tuning your car. The story line is completely un-believable, the characters are un-believable, and the ONLY saving grace of this movie is that it's got "pretty cars" and "bright lights."

Summary: I SOLD MY ACURA BECAUSE OF THIS MOVIE
Review: Let me tell you how this movie begins!! Four hondas hijack a tractor trailer on an EMPTY L.A. freeway. The hijackers shoot a grapling hook into the passenger window of the rig and one person jumps on the front of the truck and fights to control the truck. The rig swerves side to side (and of couse dosen't flip over),then crashes through a constuction barrier. One lane is still open and one of the cars fits under the trailer.
YES, FITS UNDER THE TRAILER! In the shots before the this scene its a regular long trailer with two sets of wheels on it, but in the shot with the car under it it only has one set of wheels and when they exit the constuction the trailer has two sets of wheels again. ARE THE FILMMAKERS PLAYING A JOKE OR DO THE THINK WE'RE BLIND?!(note to hijackers:when stealing a truck wait until the driver stops to get a meal and steal it when its in the parking lot instead of jumping onto the front of a moving semi, what if he locks his brakes when your in midair?(then again if you did this my way you would't have a high speed action scene here. And what happens to the driver, the rig, or its load of stereos (last I checked Sony ships their products on airplanes, not sea-land containers that take weeks to cross an ocean). Before the robbery they show you the stereos stacked all nice in the trailer, i wonder how many broke during all the swerving the truck did! when we find out what characters are responsible i began to wonder why some one who owns a auto body garage and wins thousands of dollars from street racing would need to hijack big rigs???? If you have any logic you would ask yourself some questions about where this hijacking story is going. It gets polluted by soap opera drama and street racing (or is it street racing and soap opera drama polluted by unexplaining hijacking story) If this movie got rid of the hijacking story it would be plausable as just a popcorn movie about street racing, but making you wonder about the story is what ruins this film. So this first scene is totally misleading but near the end it gets back to the cop stopping the criminals from the hijackings (and the filmakers and characters can't even do that right, because despite its dumb begining its ending is even worse). I thought 2 Fast 2 Furious was a better movie than this ...., but then again 2 Fast 2 Furious has a better director with a better idea for a story that has cool cars in better situations. and yes i sold my integra because hollywood ruined it for me and i don't like these people who spiff up their cars anymore, i want to buy a big rig and plow though all those nice cars!!!!!!
