Summary: This is Chuck Norris's best movie no doubt
Review: It is loaded with fine actors and takes an almost real and eerie look at actual events of an airplane hijack. The movie opens up with a chopper blowing up and the Delta Force going in to rescue the other military men trying to launch an operation to save hostages. That scene alone is worth buying the movie where Norris goes in and saves one of his buddies stuck in the burning chopper. The musical score is fantastic, I love it. It appears when Norris appears and is totally original and fits the movie perfectly. This is an excellent movie you have to check out. It is very well acted and directed. It is awesome the whole way thru. In the end as the plane is leaving the runway Norris arrives on his motorcycle and kills a couple terrorists that are trying to stop the plane. They throw him down the rope while the familiar Norris music is playing and he climbs the rope onto the plane as they take off. It is brilliant. I wish they'd make another movie like that. Overall there IS NO MOVIE WITH THE ACTION AND SOUNDTRACK THAT CAN MATCH THIS MOVIE. I watch it all the time.

Review: I had seen this movie a number of years ago and it did not make the impact on me as it did after 9/11. This is probably Chuck Norris' greatest movie with plenty of action and thought provoking at that. Veteran actor and World War II veteran Lee Marvin is marvelous in this movie. The story starts out with the failed rescue attempt of the American hostages in Teheran, Iran by the newly formed Delta Forces in the Iranian desert (you can read about the actual story behind the rescue attempt with an www.Amazon.com ordered book called "The Guts to Try" by a Colonel Kyle). Lee Marvin plays the Delta Force commander who in actuality was a Colonel Charles Beckwith, Vietnam special forces veteran and founder of Delta Force (you can read about him in his book "Delta Force" that you can order through www.Amazon.com about his forming the Delta Force). The movie transports you to a few years later with a hijacking of an airliner by terrorists taking place and the Delta Force's mission to rescue them. There are other good actors in the movie with parts by George Kennedy, Joey Bishop, Martin Balsam and Shelley Winters. The actors playing the villains also were excellent. The directing and music was also good. The Hijacking with the killed hijacked American occurred in the mid eighties. The Navy diver who was killed actually received a Bronze Star medal for bravery. The German stewardess actually responded the way she did. The Delta Force actually performed missions in Lebanon some of which still remain classified today. All Americans should watch this movie to see the potential of one of their greatest fighting forces of antiterrorism especially after 9/11. They are now fighting in Afghanistan! Heroes of the Delta Force!...

Summary: 80's Patriotism with a shot of Adrenaline
Review: The Delta Force today is a funny as Hell. The excruiatingly cheesy 80's patriotism is oozing from every poor and the bad guys are men you hate with little depth.

The story here is that Iranian Terrorist have hijacked a US aircraft enroute to rome. The airplane is full of US Citizens. Once they discover that there are Jews on Board they take them to FIrst class (males only) and when they arrive totheir destination takes them to their HQ. The only men who can stop them are Chuck Norris and Lee Marvin with their elite team the Delta force. From there a lot of stuff gets blown up and countless bad guys die like the cattle fodder they are. All Ending with a motorcycle Chasing Airplane sequence.

If you want a Retro patriotic 80's film than this is the way to go.

Summary: I LOVE THIS MOVIE !!!
Review: "Delta Force" is a classic of the Action/Adventure genre. Karate champ Chuck Norris has been in some pretty cool movies, like "Lone Wolf McQuaid" and "Missing in Action," but this is probably his best one. He's also been in some really crummy ones - the other day I watched a Chuck Norris movie called "Firewalker," and boy was it lame! Anyway, back to "Delta Force." As I was saying, it's a really cool movie. The plot is nothig creative: Norris plays a commando on the trail of a group of Palestinian terorrists who have hijacked a plane. What makes the story so great is that it is grounded in reality. For example, in the beginning of the movie we find Chuck and his Delta Force buddies trying to escape from Iran after a botched attempt to rescue the Ameriocan hostages bveing held there. As you probably know, this episode actually happened in real life (minus Mr. Norris, of course). Another thing that makes it great is the way it shows Middle Eastern terrorists as cruel, Jew-hating cowards, which they in fact are. These days, movies have to be politically correct when they are dealing with Middle Easterners. Actually, I haven't seen a movie since 9/11 that even deals with Middle Eastern terrorists. Bad guys in action movies nowadays have to be white boys so that Middle Easterners will not be offended. In Tom Clancy's book "The Sum of all Fears," the terrorists were Arabs, but when they made the movie they changed them into neo-Nazis. Fortunately, "Delta Force" was made long before all this PC stuff materialized.
As for the action scenes, I think that they can be summed up with the two words "Totally Awesome." "Delta Force" has not only action, buts lots of drama. The acting is very good - alright, so it's nothing that should have been nominated for an Oscar, but it's much better that you would expect. The actors and actersses manage to create scenes that are chilling, adrenaline pumping, and heartbreaking. Chuck Norris plays the hero really well, the dudes that play the terrorists do that really well, but I must say that the hostages steal the show.
So, that's what I think of "Delta Force," and I don't care if anyone tells me that it is corny or overly-patriotic. It's great to see Delta force kicking the butts of the wimpy terrorists, especially after 9/11. Thank you to Amazon.com for offering "Delta Force," thank you to Chuck Norris for doing a cool movie, and thank you to the real-life members of Delta Force for defending the USA.

Summary: A quality Special Forces adventure
Review: This is likely the best Chuck Norris movie ever to hit the big screen. Granted, given the dozens of horrendous films to his credit, that might not be saying a WHOLE lot. Nevertheless, if you're in the mood for an action movie that details Special Forces, this is one of the better flicks out there that's of that genre.

The film opens with the (historical) botched attempt to rescue the Iranian hostages under the latter days of the Carter administration. Norris plays a member of team that suffered casualties when things went awry. Fed up with the politicians running the show, Norris decides to retire from the Army.

Enter the Delta Force, which is the Army's Top-Secret anti-terrorist unit. After the Iran fiasco, they're chomping at the bit to prove their worth in a new scenario. Predictably, Norris' character decides to return to the fray.

Ever since 9/11, this movie has been particularly cathartic to view. Watching cowardly terrorist forces get hunted by elite commandos is nothing short of soothing. It's a testament to the fact that, while we're normally a pretty laid back country, it is unwise to provoke us into anger. The Delta Force, Navy Seals, Marine Recon and Army Rangers are waiting for anyone who makes this lethal mistake.

Summary: When will the Force be with us?
Review: When this initially came out, it struck me as an unveiled propaganda movie, like those produced during World war II. It was a simple good guys versus the stereotyped bad guys movie with a bland ho hum plot. However, in the light of recent terroristic activities worldwide, this film now has a tinge of truth in it. Bad guys do exist and they do commit terroristic acts and they MUST be eliminated. Thst is the reality portrayed here. The fantasy is that there is a Delta Forcee that can obliterate these bad guys. Well, they haven't done it yet. Lee Marvin provides his usual inebriated acting in this one. However, Chuck Norris is statuestic. His acting is pretty much mundane here. The inclusion of so many prominent stars does not make this a classic. But this may eventually end up being a cult film if the situation where terrorists are not destroyed in the real world persists. At least in this movie, they get their lickings.

Summary: Fact, fantasy, and exploitation combine.
Review: This 1986 offering from The Cannon Group recreates an actual hijacking and then sends a fictional delta force team (headed by Lee Marvin and Chuck Norris) out to fix things. Studio head Menahem Golan stepped behind the camera to direct and the result is a bit of a bloated movie. The action is well over an hour in coming and the first half is pretty over the top in its melodramatic manipulation. Nonetheless, it will entertain fans of the Cannon studio movies (they do exist) and Chuck Norris. Nothing classic, and it lacks the punch of realism (the delta force drives dune buggies into combat?) to help make anything other than an average exploitation melodrama.

Review: The only thing I do not like about this movie being on DVD, is that the english subtitles (I.E. the translation of the language used by the hijackers and other foreigners) and the timelines for the movie were left out, whereas they were on the VHS version. If you make another version of this film (I.E. Special Edition, Director's Cut, etc.) please include those items. Other than that, the movie was excellent. I wish all forms of airline hijacking was handled this way.

Summary: A 'Force' to be reckoned with
Review: In the mood for a little 80s action-adventure megacheese, I snapped up 'The Delta Force' and gave it a view. While it may not be quite as over-the-top in the implausible action scene department as its Schwarzenegger-led contemporaries, this notable Chuck Norris vehicle does have its moments of incredibly silly shoot-em-up action. You know-- motorcycles crashing through plate-glass windows, lotsa 'close calls', vehicles blowin' up more easily than a rear-ended Pinto, the good guys always gettin' off true shots while the bad guys almost always seem to miss-- stuff like that. Oh yeah, and scores of bad guys droppin' like flies. Heck, there were so many heavies getting' cut down, I hadda rewind a few of the more intense action scenes to make sure I got the totals in my 'confirmed kills' list down correctly. And in case you're wondering: yes, I really do keep track of action movie casualties. It's part of a hobby I call "not having a life"...

Once again Chuck Norris gets into his thespian comfort zone by playing a stoic Delta Force second-in-command whose intense gaze can scare the pants off of any thirtysomething bed-wetting momma's boy! Which is something I've been meaning to talk to my therapist about... but that's a whole 'nother story, and none of your concern. Sadly, ol' Chuck didn't pull out a great deal of his martial arts moves for this flick save for near the end, when he really goes to town on the lead terrorist dude in a remote residence just outside of Beirut. Mister terrorist-bad-guy-type-person was gettin' wailed on so fiercely, I was actually kinda feelin' sorry for him. But then I got over it and started rootin' for Chuck to really lay him out. Which he did of course...

As for the FIRST-in-command: Lee Marvin really looks like he's on his last legs here, so much so that it didn't surprise me all that much when he passed away about a year or so after this was filmed. I mean he REALLY looked tired and haggard. Still, he gave it all he had, and came off looking like a calmer, toned-down version of his character from 'The Dirty Dozen'. Speaking of which: 'Dozen' co-star George Kennedy gets a bit of face time as a man of the cloth who ends up being one of the hostages. Throw in a storyline based on an issue of great concern of the time (in this instance terrorism, which obviously has become an even greater concern nowadays) and very loosely based on actual events, an annoyingly monotonous synthesizer score, and a bittersweet ending where the team mourns the loss of one of their own, and you've got-- well, you've got nothing all that new in the realm of 80s military action flicks, really. Still, if you need a little something to help flush that excess estrogen outta your system after being forced to watch a chick-flick double-feature with your significant other, 'The Delta Force' is as good an action movie as any to get those levels of sheer manliness back to normal...

Post-Script: While it's not all that noticeable in the image that Amazon posted on the product page, I found the DVD case cover photo featuring Chuck and Lee Marvin kinda funny. Why is this, you ask? Well, 'cuz it's fairly obvious that their heads were taken off of some other photos and pasted onto the bodies holding the bazookas! But don't take my word for it; see for yourself the next time you hit the DVD aisle of your fave rental place...

One of the corniest movies I've ever seen too.

Its soooo funny! This has nothing to do with what real delta teams do! They use uzis and they like never miss shots!

The music is soooo corny it's hell of funny to look at the serious expression on Chuck Norris's face and stuff, and when you hear the theme song you'll laugh really really hard it's the funniest movie I've ever seen

I give it a 5 for comedy
