Summary: Not the Best Dirty Harry Movie, but Entertaining Enough
Review: Magnum Force (1973) is the first sequel to the movie Dirty Harry starring Clint Eastwood. Dirty Harry, in some ways, is the apotheosis of the hard-edged cop living on the thin edge between recklessness and police brutality versus fantastic police work and intuitive detective skills. Many have tried to emulate Eastwood's panache in this type of role, but none have matched it. Eastwood's presence on film is what makes these movies worth watching.

Other than the above, Magnum Force is really a rather mediocre movie. Harry Callahan is part of an investigation of the deaths of some of San Francisco's most notorious villains. They turn out to be vigilante cops and Harry, while he makes some mistakes along the way, shows his skill in figuring out who the bad guys are as the plot unfolds. We also get a few gratuitous scenes, that don't advance the story, of Harry knocking off some bad guys in that gung-ho way of his - and enjoying, briefly, some female company. All in good fun.

Overall if you like Eastwood or those tough cop movies, then this is not a great movie, but it's entertaining.

Review: Magnum Force is by far the best Dirty Harry movie, good story, good acting and lots of good knockers...er... I didn't say that. Clint Eastwood plays the doesn't play by the rules cop nicely. Although I don't know why Lt. Briggs hates him, he does the least amount of killing, the bad guys do. The story goes a bunch of rookie traffic cops are killing the top criminals in the city. Killing#1: Carmine Ricca and his goonsquad. Carmine was hated by the people because he was found not guilty of murder of a labour leader. In a brand new caddy they were pulled over and shot with a .357 Magnum. Killing#2: a narcotics kingpin and his girls (scene 1 of 2 w/ nudity). Killing#3: a pimp. Killing#4 another druggie (scene 2 of 2).The first dirty harry movie with lots of language too. Harry and his partner were following a suspect of the murders and he wanted to know where San Quentin was
The driver said, "it's back there, don't you see too good,".
Harry replies "I see fine, I was wondering if you knew, you do don't ya ass**le. More language! At a shoot out the cops came and yelled in a loudspeeker to throw their guns down.
The gunmen rplied " bullsh*t, f**k you!".
The movie ends by Harry....... hey I won't tell you'll have to see the movie yourself:P

Summary: Fine film by Mr. Eastwood with great action!
Review: Follow-up to "Dirty Harry", this film is darn near as good as its predecessor. David Soul and Tim Matheson add good acting as the corrupt cops.

Summary: It's More Than a Movie, It's a Way Of Life
Review: "Magnum Force" is a threatening, yet humorous story that begins with the malleable premise that three highway patrol officers (recent graduates from the police academy) are excellent marksman, as well as skillful motorcyclists who wear Gestapo styled uniforms and mirrored shades. With Vitalis enhanced, combed back hair and jibbering German, Robert Urich does a convincing Joseph Goebbels while Tim Matheson and David Soul do the goosestep. Callahan suspects something is wrong when his boss (Hal Holbrook) orders the wacky trio of vigilantes to a parking garage to kill him.

Review: IN THE FIRST SEQUEL TO THE CLASSIC ''DIRTY HARRY'', HARRY CALLAHAN [CLINT EASTWOOD] RETURNS TO TAKE ON A LEAGUE OF VIGILANTE COPS WHO'RE KILLING OFF THE CITY'S CRIMINALS. THE IDEA WAS GOOD, BUT IT WASN'T EXECUTED GOOD. HAS SOME DECENT ACTION, BUT IT'S SERIOUSLY NOWHERE NEAR THE FIRST MOVIE'S LEVEL. EASTWOOD IS FUN AS ALWAYS, BUT THIS MOVIE NEEDS SOME WORK. EVEN THOUGH A LOT OF PEOPLE ON THIS WEBSITE SEEM TO DISAGREE WITH ME, I THINK THE FANS OF THE ORIGINAL WILL NOT ENJOY THIS ONE TOO MUCH. DON'T GET ME WRONG, THIS AIN'T AS BAD AS IT COULD BE, BUT IT AIN'T NO CLASSIC LIKE THE ORIGINAL! JUST AN AVERAGE SEQUEL. FOLLOWED BY THE ENFORCER.

Summary: Dirty Harry vs vigilantes
Review: "Magnum Force" is the second 'Dirty' Harry (Clint Eastwood) movie, and the best of the sequels. In "Magnum Force", Callahan is assigned to investigate a series of murders where the victoms are known professional criminals. You wouldn't think Harry would mind so bad, but he dose. Then he finds out that a bunch of rookie motorcycle policemen are responsable, and they have assigned themselves as a sort of death squad, cleaning up San Francisco's scum. Harry dosn't mind so much until his buddy (another cop) is killed to protect the secret. The movie has probably the largest cast of name stars (even if it was before they made it big) than any other in this series until "The Dead Pool". Robert Urich, David Soul, and Tim Matheson are the lead vigilante cops. They seem pretty cold as storm troopers acting out their own justice. This movie tries to preach against vigilantism, but never lets the situation get far enough out of control to prove a point. Eastwood is sort of on auto pilot here. Let's face it, he was more than a little wooden here. Hal Holbrook was ok, but he seems to rely too much on the sterotype of the angry boss. Like I said, the three killers were also more of a type than individuals; in their helmets and sun glasses they looked more like faceless robots than people, and I thought that was a good idea and very effective in representing a faciest system they were trying to create. The violence was great, very down and dirty grisly. My favorite kill was the pimp pouring Drano down a hooker's throat while a cabbie had to watch. As far as direction I thought Ted Post did a good job directing, even if there wasn't a lot of real flair or panash (and yes, I heard about how Eastwood took over directing when he wasn't happy with Post). Over all, I liked the movie for it's dfark themes and the action that was really pretty good. And of course you have Harry Callahan's killer sense of humor.
