Summary: Tony Scott rules...
Review: "The Last Boyscout" certainly has shades of other films such as "Die Hard," "Lethal Weapon," and "Beverly Hills Cop," but it borrows from the best and comes out a winner. On top of that, director Tony Scott is on hand to keep things slick and hard-edged. There is a reality to "The Last Boyscout" that most films of its kind can only yearn for, despite its over-the-top action moments. Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans share a fantastic onscreen chemistry which solidifies the experience. Add in some one-liners you'll love to quote, and you have a classic on your hands. Tony Scott is the man.

Summary: A modern action classic
Review: Abounding in furious gun battles, spectacular explosions and smart and witty one-liners, "The Last Boy Scout" is one of the better examples of producer Joel Silver's talent for big-budget mayhem. Unfortunately, the film degenerates in the second half into a long monotonous chase sequence. The first half is, without a doubt, the best. The exchange between Willis and Wayans in the strip club, Willis's discovery of his wife's back door man hiding in the closet and the opening scene in the football stadium are tours de force of scripting and dramatic spectacle.

Summary: In The Red Zone
Review: At first, The Last Boy Scout, seems like a by the numbers action flick that uses every tired cliche you could possibly think of. But as it plays in front of you, something happens, you somehow get drawn in anyway, and are taken on one heck of a guilty pleasure ride.

Joe Hallenbeck (Bruce Willis) is a disillusioned former Secret Service agent who has hit rock bottom as a detective for hire. His marriage to wife Sarah (Chelsea Field) is on the skids, his young daughter Darian (Danielle Harris) has no respect for him and has an acid tongue, he drinks too much, and he's out of cash. Hallenbeck takes on the assignment of protecting Cory (Halle Berry), the stripper girlfriend of Jimmy Dix (Damon Wayans), a former pro football player banned from the league for gambling. When Cory is murdered gangland style, Hallenbeck teams up with the former football star to find the killers. Their search leads them deep into the world of professional football, politics, legalized gambling and sadistic hitmen.

Directed by Tony Scott, known for Top Gun and True Romance, produced by Joel Silver of The Matrix Trilogy, and written by Lethal Weapon scribe Shane Black, you pretty much know what's coming. Somehow though it works. Willis and Damon have solid chemistry together. It was nice to see Damon in this kind of role--funny yes, but not over the top and goes to some dark places. Willis plays Hallenbeck much the same way he played Detective John McClaine from Die Hard--but with a few more demons on his back and more of a death wish. The conspiracy contains few surprises...But as I say by the time it's revealed your just too far in to care. The climax is exciting if a bit perposterous at the same time.

The DVD is disappointing in the extras department. The theatrical trailer, along with 4 other product trailers, and a few production notes are all you get. The film may not be perfect but I like it enough to want to know more about how it all came together. Viewers can choose to watch the film in either the widescreen or pan and scan formats.

If you are looking for a movie that's fun, entertaining, and wont require you to think too hard, The Last Boy Scout fits the bill. As a football fan, that backdrop makes it all the better.

Review: Awesome action movie! If you liked DIE HARD, you'll love this! I really reccommend this movie!

Summary: Much fun indeed.
Review: Back in 1991 there was still only one way that studios could sell Bruce Willis and that was as various incarnations of his Die Hard hero. Even Eddie (Hudson) Hawkins had similarities to John McClane. Joe Hallenback is a sort of mix between McClane and Snake Plissken. Watching him mumble and grunt thru various near-deaths and close shaves makes for much fun.

Hallenback is a P.I. and scrounges for work wherever he can find it. So he takes up a job protecting a stripper named Cory and soon finds himself in a lot of trouble. Bad guys are trying to get him left right and centre and his bratty 13-year-old daughter tagging along doesn't help much. The bad guys are truly evil and Hallenback seems more like an anti-hero. This adds to the rough nature of the movie and heightens the sense of adventure.

Tony Scott's style of direction is best suited to this type of action flick. The flashy, exotic editing and cinematographic techniques lend a lot to the witty script and compliment the seedy or pretty locations. Shane Black has also written dozens of one-liners and riddled the script with funny dialogue and exciting situations. It's no surprise that this was once the most expensive script ever sold in Hollywood.

Some people say that this film is too violent and misogynist but I honestly cannot understand what they are talking about. I guess it was just a little out of the norm back in 1991. But still the tone of the film is so light and enjoyable you begin to wonder how this never made up for it. Check it out for yourself and I am sure that you will enjoy.

The DVD is in 2.35:1 anamorphic widescreen and is remastered in Dolby 5.1. Love that opening song, man

Summary: Demoralizing but humorous.
Review: Bruce Willis & Damon Wayans teamed up for the first time in this action film on gambling, drugs, prostitution, city violence, prostitution and family breakdown, etc. which centers the LA scene. Demoralizing as it seems to be, the Last Boy Scout is quality entertaining for mature audiences despite of the vulgar language that is spoken throughout. And Willis & Wayans are good at that. Sick humor is the best word to describe it.

Summary: High Quality Action Movie That Really Pays Off
Review: Bruce Willis and Damon Wayans are dynamite in this movie. Both play has beens who had been much more in a previous life. Ironically the ones responsible for ruining their careers just happen to be seriously corrupt and when the two team up to stop them some wonderful action sequences erupt. This film is really a lot of fun if your looking for a nice action flick to rent. Though keep the kids away from it for it does contain a handful of bad language and violence. But it is really exciting and tons of fun and ranks with other good buddy action films like Midnight Run, 48 Hours, and Lethal Weapon. Check it out.

Summary: A great action film that tries to repeat "Lethal Weapon"
Review: Bruce Willis is in "Die Hard" mode on this one, the film has him as a private detective who appears washed up, he is soon contacted by his pal who has a case that he would rather Willis pursue, involving a stripper(Halle Berry)who might be involved in some shady dealings, his watchful eye attracts the attention of her boyfriend(Damon Wayans)who is suspicious of Willis, she is soon killed & they team up to find out who is behind it, this film is somewhat vulger in that it shows the worst in people, we learn that Willis was a highly decorated Secret Service Agent who foiled an assassination attempt that somehow ended his career, his assault on a senator that was beating a street walker didn't help either, Wayons was a football hero who was banned because of gambling, we learn these guys past & realize that were not always washed up. Critics say this film trashes women, are they watching the same movie? Willis comes home to discover his wife with his pal, although it does not respect women in some scenes, it does however convey Willis' love for his wife to a point of forgiveness, Wayons grief about the loss of Berry is seen with a tear in his eye, as they get closer they discover that the owner of the football team that Wayons played for is attempting to legalize gambling by attempting to bribe the senator that Willis had a run in with, their pursuit has the owner's stooge trying to taunt Willis in many funny & memorable scenes, the one-liners that Willis throws back is often typical Willis, there is a neat chase scene as well as the ultimate showdown between them & the owner that is quite satisfying, not to mention Willis & Milo(stooge), a great film for those seeking high octane action as well as Willis' sarcasm!
