Summary: So, you thought the same??
Review: What "a viewer from toronto" thought, meets my opinion exactly. Easly the best film EVER made, action, a story and a brill ending. I have watched this film SO many times (I know EVERY word) - watch the directors cut if you can - it puts a new angle on it) If you havnt got it yet - go and get it NOW

Summary: A love story of the spirit against the blaze of bullets.
Review: It's only a few times that a director of our generation is capable of balancing such scenes of rapid-fire violence with the poetry of human emotion and meaning; so it was with Spielberg's "Saving Private Ryan" and so it was with the lesser-known, earlier film, Luc Besson's "The Professional. Besson sets it in New York: a lonely, tired foreign hitman known as a "cleaner" has been moving through his days in a tired haze until a corrupt cop takes out the family of a little girl, forcing her to seek shelter with him. From there, Leon, the cleaner, teaches Mathilda, the girl, the art and science of assassination while Mathilda teaches Leon humanity and rekindles his emotions. Truly, they supply in each other what they've been missing: strength and vulnerability. Beautiful scenery. Spectacular gun-fights. And Gary Oldman, adding that special thing he does with anything he's in, creates one of the most diabolical villains ever to work for the US government. My personal favorite.

Summary: Great movie except...
Review: I wanted a more cleaner ending and better explanation of how the police is involved. It left me with an unsatifsying feeling.

Summary: Luc Besson at his best
Review: An AMAZING movie. By far the best action/drama movie ever made, with a STELLAR script and superb cast performances. Gary Oldman and Jean Reno both give their best performances in their careers, and Natalie Portman is inevitably destined for greatness in her future. You owe it to yourself as a member of the movie going population to watch this movie, this movie is a MUST-SEE for all.

Summary: The meaning of true love and true friendship
Review: There is no doubt in my mind that "The Professional" is one of the best movies that I have ever viewed. It is a realistic portrayal of an incident that could very well happen in any one of our lives. Moreover, the movie proves the point that under every hard-core, macho, bravado person, there is still a glimmer of love.

Summary: This is the best film I have ever seen!
Review: Leon is a comedy + thriller + romance because of Matilda. It is just a brilliant film which you have got to watch. Luc Besson is a very clever man for thinking up this story, but the best bit of the of the film was the superb acting by Jean Reno. I would give the film top marks.

Review: great movie, i just love it. i still hope that someday they will release the three hour directors cut on video. btw tom geogh: if you've seen the movie, you should know that even though jean reno is french, leon the hit man is not (italian)!

if anyone out there knows anything about the directors cut please let me know.

Summary: Best action movie, even if you really dont like action
Review: This movies strangs story line and bizzare batch of characters mixed with exciting gun fights create a great movie. Some say Oldman over does it in this one but I disagree. Oldman is playing a crooked cop who is on some kind of drugs (it's never revealed what he is on) and Oldman plays him beautifully because the character is supposed to be creepy and impossible to understand. So if you don't like his character dont knock oldman. Both Portman and Reno do well in The Professional, Reno as a secluded French hit man (or cleaner as he is called in the movie) and Portman as an enigma of a little girl who lives down the hall from Leon (played by Reno).

Summary: One of the best films to be produced in the last 10 years
Review: I loved the Professional in the theaters. It's not your typical Hollywood action flick. There is so much depth to the characters. There is more than enough action to keep the ride going, but there is so much more going on. I bought the pan and scan VHS version of the movie when it came out and was sickened by the horrible transfer. Whoever was incharge of the transfer should have been sacked. I haven't watched the Pan and Scan side of this DVD so I don't know if it suffers from the same problems, but the widescreen version is beautiful.
