Rating: Summary: RIGHT UP THERE WITH 'PLAN 9 FROM OUTER SPACE' Review: My bro and I watched this movie a few nights ago and both of us had forgotten how funny it was. Watching DEATH WISH 3 is very much like watching an Ed Wood movie. You watch it to get a kick out of how awful it is and NOT for the plot. Indeed it should be placed in the comedy section of video stores. Anybody attempting to give this movie a serious bad review is in desperate need of a sense of humor. There is no shame in having a guilty pleasure such as this in your video or dvd library. Everybody's got at least one or two in theirs, so if you liked this movie don't be shy to admit it. Peace, my man.
Rating: Summary: amazing Review: Death Wish 3 is an amazing movie that never stops being incredibly entertaining! I'm so glad it's on DVD! The bit with the giggler is the best, but there are so many awesome moments in this movie and most of the other reviews have got them covered. OK I'll mention a few other great moments from this movie: Loved the bit where Bronson is eating with the old Jewish couple and he hears the punks breaking into his car so he goes out to 'talk' to them! The 'catapult' device that stops the thugs that sneak in through the windows is extremely funny, the final gun battle is incredible, and the missile launcher!!! Man this is an amazing movie!
Rating: Summary: This is meant to be a parody, right? Review: I know that Michael Winner got his start making comedies, then turned to making blunt and chilling action movies such as The Stone Killer, The Mechanic and the first Death Wish. However Death Wish 3 is so over the top that I have to wonder if Winner wasn't winking at the audience - and one or two scenes seem to be making some kind of satirical statement about this kind of entertainment catharsis. Paul Kersey returns to New York City to visit an old war buddy, but finds his friend dying from a beating given by the local thugs. Kersey is arrested and, while in the local jail, has a run in with the gang leader, a psychotic named Fraker (played with just the right amount of swagger by Gavan O'Herlihy). The police chief (Ed Lauter) is so frustrated with Fraker's gang running (and ruining) the neighborhood that he releases Kersey and wishes him happy shooting. "You're turning me loose?" Kersey asks. "I'm turning you loose." The cop replies. What follows is a series of action set pieces that build to a riot in a payback hungry world gone mad. As many others have noted, this movie is utterly over the top and quite laughter inducing. I cannot tell if it is truly meant to be a subtle parody of Death Wish/urban warfare movies or if it is so stupid that it just plays that way. Did Michael Winner not do his job, or did he do it too well? Watch, enjoy, and decide for yourself. Highly recommended and an essential for both Bronson and/or bad movie fans everywhere.
Rating: Summary: One DVD "wish" that's finally been answered Review: If only they would re-release it in theaters!!! I'd love to attend a midnight show with everyone on this board, as this outpouring of affection comes as a pleasant surprise. Since this forum has turned into a collective sharing of memories and favorite moments, I'll list mine: the springing of the booby trap/dental extraction device built by Bronson to safeguard the kindly old Balsams (that's how you keep heavily armed intruders at bay--go for their front incisors, the achilles heel of all gangbangers). Another gem: Early in the film, before his mail order arsenal arrives, Bronson punches a "creep" in mid purse-snatch, dropping the wretch to the pavement before he runs off in terror. It is the most ineffectual blow in film history (rivalled only by Roger Moore's punches in his later Bond films).
Rating: Summary: "I like chicken" Review: One of the most absurd films of all time, Death Wish 3 occupies a unique place in the motion picture universe, sharing a pedestal with "Cobra" and "The Karate Kid 3." Most of the finer points of the film have been discussed in previous reviews, yet I feel compelled to mention my favorite things from Death Wish 3: The bizarre and non-threatening make up and haircut of Fraker, the "chief creep" Bronson's awesome, unconvincing fall, resulting in his handgun obviously being thrown clear of his reach Fraker's annoyance at the shooting death of "The Giggler" and finally, the greatest line in movie-making history: "Chicken's good--I like chicken" Pure gold, and easily one of the most entertaining films ever conceived.
Rating: Summary: Great film but no widescreen Review: This is one of my favorite action films of the eighties. It may also be one of my most favorite comedies of the eighties. Yes, it's so bad it's funny and it's so funny it's good. The only bad point to the dvd is that it is not in widescreen format. The picture quality is good but your still missing some of the picture without the wide screen. Hopefully MGM will release a special edition to this cult classic like they did with Escape from New York. A clue to the future-- this film is a couple of dollars more than parts 2 and 4. Does MGM realize this is a cult favorite?
Rating: Summary: Brilliant! Review: What an amazing movie! I never heard of the film till a friend of mine introduced me to it. Movies don't get much better than this. Its gory, funny, and the soundtrack is great. I haven't seen the other movies...I guess they are trying to be serious in the other films. This movie is so awful that it is amazing. I could watch it 100 times and never get sick of it. Please buy this movie!
Rating: Summary: Bronson is back. Review: This is one of the best action movies that came out of the eighties. Bronson is back in effect kicking butt and taking names. One of the cool parts of the movie is when Bronson went to the store for some ice cream. But he took his camera with him for bate and the Giggler took the bate hook line and sinker. Once the Giggler took Bronson's camera, Bronson drop the ice cream and shot the Giggler dead and I was happy. Another cool part about the movie is the all out riot at the end of movie and the funky 70's music played by Jimmy Page was brilliant music to hear. Plus seeing Fraker's face when Bronson pulled the rocket launcher and blew him away was awesome. So I give this movie 5 stars.
Rating: Summary: Lovely. Review: A palpable blur between parody and sincerity, Death Wish 3 is arguably the greatest action movie ever. Take Charles Bronson, lots of "baddies" (clad in leather, gauntlets, and tight jeans no less!), a distinctly dated soundtrack, guns, and heaps of ultra-violence and you have the perfect film for an adrenaline-filled romp through the slums of New York. Paul Kersey (Bronson) returns once again as the renowned vigilante who has a penchant for attracting females that inevitably get raped or brutally murdered. Attempting to get past his chaotic life, Kersey decides to make a trip to the dark part of town to visit his old buddy from WWII. Naturally, he walks into the apartment to find his friend lying on the ground, spattered with sanguine solution, breathing his penultimate breaths. The police just happen to find Kersey at the scene of the crime and throw him in the slammer, where he spends the night with some crude dudes who make a few attempts on Kersey's life, for no apparent reason. Whilst in jail, Kersey makes an enemy, who is coincidentally no other than the leader of the gang that murdered Kersey's friend. Just before his newfound adversary can take his life, Kersey is released. However, the police chief recognizes him as the vigilante killer from his earlier adventures, and threatens to expose him unless he can solve the city's gang problem. Thus, the film wastes no time in getting down to business. As Kersey returns to the slum and sets up shop in his old pal's apartment, he lures gang members into various situations (some especially comical, though I won't give anything away) so he can deprive them of their existence. If you fail to see the beauty and buffoonery in the histrionics of the principal characters, you will probably have a hard time with this film. For the rest of us with a sense of humor, this film is without a doubt the pinnacle of the Death Wish quintilogy and is vital for any action movie aficionado.
Rating: Summary: Charles Bronson- Judge, jury & executor Review: Death Wish 3 is about an ex-cop whose wife & daughter was killed by street thugs and takes on the role of vigilante to avenge their death. In this story, Bronson's character returns to NY and eliminates a street gang for killing his best friend. HOT SCENE: Marina Sirtis (Star Trek- Next Generation) gets raped! OH MY!
