Summary: XXXtreme Fun!
Review: The action, the noise, the soundtrack just about blast you out of your seat before you have your first bite of popcorn. Step right up, and have some fun! I was fortunate enough to attend with two companions, so this will be three reviews for the price of one. Companion #1 is an action movie junkie and was blissed out with a big smile on his face for the entire movie, so we won't hear much from him. Companion #2's favorite movie is 'Pride and Prejudice." Need I say more?

The soundtrack is perfect, couldn't be better. The plot--what plot; who said anything about a plot? There is some beautiful photography of Prague that should keep all the finer sensibilities happy. Vin Diesel is perfect, so ugly he's cute. Maybe needs a little seasoning in the acting department, but let's not quibble. He snowboards, motor crosses, parasails, and knows no fear. Xander carries out his feats of derring do with a shy little smile that I find entrancing. (Companion #2 thinks he's a doofus.)

The gadgets are breathtaking. I thought the bullet that spouted blood on the victim and looked like it killed him, but didn't was awesome. Some of the massive action shots (explosions, sailing through space, the avalanche) had a peculiar jerky quality as if the film was being backed up and repeated that was a little hard on the eyes. (Companion #2 kept her eyes covered up and could not comment.) Companion #2 and I both agreed the love interest (Asia Argento) just needed a good wash, and she would have been fine. Samuel Jackson had a perplexed air ("What AM I doing here?") in his role as Spy Master--I had this feeling he was going to burst into laughter at any moment.

Wouldn't have missed it for the world! (Companion #2 rolls her eyes.)

Summary: Eye Candy
Review: Finally got a chance to see "XXX" today and find out what the hype has been about. This is the kind of movie that you can't go in expecting to see academy award performances. In fact, you'd be lucky to see anything warranting a soap opera digest award. The acting is, well bad. Especially on the part of Vin Diesel. I liked him in "The Fast and the Furious" but I must admit that his inability acting-wise really shows through in this film. And it's a shame, because physically, he is more than fit to be the next Arnold or Stallone, but I just don't think he can measure up to them as far as acting goes. (At least not yet) The supporting cast was decent. Samuel L. Jackson was good as usual and Asia Argento was a nice addition to the cast.

The plot is ridiculous. Period. Nothing groundbreaking here and the script could have been written by monkeys. (In fact...) But the bottom line here is that the movie is fun. Really fun. The stunts and special effects are ridiculously unbelievable but they are a lot of fun to watch. They're exciting and that's what this movie is all about. The movie is extremely predictable at almost every turn. There are a few laughs, mostly coming from Diesel, but again, this movie is about nothing more than Eye Candy.

And looking at this movie as "eye candy"...it works. It's fun and exciting even though it's over the top. If you go into this movie expecting to see great acting and top notch writing you're going to be extremely disappointed, but if you go in expecting crazy stunts and special effects, then you will feel confident with your choice. XXX 3/5

Summary: Triple X- A Bond-like Thriller
Review: I must say that Vin Diesel, kicks butt as Agent Cage, Xander Cage that is. Triple X, a major thrill ride, with defeaning action sequences and even some Bond like action featuring some sexual like scenes. I must say Diesel is cool, but this movie's plot could be improved. A very pointless action film, but not quite the worst. It's a stunner. During the movie there is even a sneak preview or actually a teaser trailer of the new Bond feature: Die Another Day, which is Pierce Brosnan's last Bond film. But anyway that is something to look foward to if you see Triple X. The movie is great, Samuel L. Jackson is good as Agent Augustus Gibbons, and Asia Argento is terrific as Xander's new assistant. Ohh, that shall be interesting! Wow! I enjoyed this film, but of course the script could be better, but amazingly there is not a lot of cursing used in this film. So, not a very bad choice for the kids, but it does feature numerous action sequences, bloodless mayhem and of course sexual innuendo and material. A must-see! I liked this film! You will to if you see it! So see Triple X! In theaters nationwide August 9.

Review: This movie was horrible. So bad that it is the only movie I have ever been to that when it was over everyone in the theater started laughing at how bad it was.

Summary: Possibly the worst movie ever made
Review: I love a good action movie. But unless you are the target audience for this movie (13 year old males) this is not the movie to see. The dark, vulgar undertones of this movie traumatized my nervous system almost as much as the loud continuous noise and explosions that did not cease from film beginning to film end. The special effects attempted to be breathtaking, but the CGI in this film was poor at best. Many times I found myself shaking my head as Vin Diesel rushed into danger in a clearly fake CGI world. Then there is the acting and script. What acting and script? I truly think that they were making this up as they went along. Have we really sunk this low that we are expected to be entertained with noise, explosions, and special effects without the benefit of meaningful acting and scripting. I feel insulted. The only redeeming factor of this movie (and I mean the only redeeming factor) was Samuel L. Jackson's performance. But this was not enough to salvage this poor excuse for a movie. This really could be the worst movie ever made.

Summary: Disenfranchised James Bond, make no mistake - but fun!
Review: Trying to differentiate "xXx" from James Bond by mentioning James Bond everywhere pretty much clinches the fact that the Diesel vehicle is really a James Bond movie without the pompous British society. I laughed to myself in the theatre when people were saying on the way out, "Some of those stunts were just ridiculous." Of course they were ridiculous. If you want to see real stunts, watch the X-Games. If you want to see a big Hollywood movie full of laughable but adrenaline-pumping stunts made for the big screen, "xXx" is for you. It has more plot than I expected, fairly well held together with plenty of openings for the next movie (already pretty much a given). More focus was clearly placed on getting the stunts right than getting the scenes right, so the acting isn't always top rate, but then, who believed Denise Richards as a nuclear scientist? Sporting a PG-13 rating, this is a good film for the teenage boy action set, with strong anti-smoking and anti-drinking messages. (Xander Cage never takes a drink himself.) Older female fans like myself were disappointed by the lack of the *other* kind of Diesel action, but still had a blast anyway.
