Rating: Summary: TRIPLE NULLITY Review: Ashley Judd and Tommy Lee Jones really try their best to interest the poor movie lover in DOUBLE JEOPARDY, a below-average kind of TV movie that pathetically enters the DVD market. Even during the featurette presented as an extra, I was sorry for them, both good actors lost in this Paramount production. I suppose that if you're an occasional movie buff, it won't hurt you to rent this DVD, but if, like me, you are longing for quality titles that shan't be released in the DVD standard before long, DOUBLE JEOPARDY is a terrible waste of time. Absolutely nothing new in the screenplay, you are always 2 miles ahead of the actors because YOU have seen hundreds of these endless cat and mouse movies. You know that there will be two or three car wrecks, that Tommy Lee and Ashley are going to appreciate each other at the end, that the bad guy will be punished, etc., etc.. In fact, you don't have to rent this DVD because you have already seen this movie. A thousand times. With other actors. A DVD for the garbage can.
Rating: Summary: It's A Keeper! Review: What I enjoyed about this movie was how it portrayed (Ashley Judd's) struggle to reunite with her son. The acting was very good in my opinion. One of the best movies of 99'. But what really caught my attention was the intriging plot line witch seems to twist every 2 Minutes. I'll be watching this one for a long time to come.
Rating: Summary: Not too bad, but sure not as good as it could have been Review: This movie had a pretty good premise, but the acting was bad, BAD. Tommy Lee Jones did as good as could be expected (he's always at least good, and usually my absolute favorite). But he was totally wasted in this role. Ashley Judd, on the other hand was embarrassing to watch. She had one and only one expression on her face for 99% of the movie. I didn't like her or her character at all. Much of this movie was painfully unbelievable (what was she going to do with her kid, anyway? bring him back to jail with her?), but it was worth watching. With better direction, a better actress in Judd's role, and an expanded role for Tommy Lee Jones, this movie could have been really something.
Rating: Summary: Best movie in a long time. Review: This movie ranks very high in my book. It was better than most any other movies I've ever seena nd definitely better than any movie like this that I've ever seen. Ashley Judd does a wonderful job, as does Tommy Lee Jones, together they make the perfect, unpredicatble, and unique movie.
Rating: Summary: A Great Movie! Review: This movie was really great, and one that I would not hesitate to recommend to everyone. Ashley Judd and Tommy Lee jones light up the screen in two stunning performances. Judd is exceptional as a woman who is deceived by her husband and is convicted of his murder. Jones plays a tough parol officer who doesn't believe in second chances. Jones, who is one of my favorite actors, is very believable in this role, and gives a tremendous performance. Judd's remarkable vulnerability is what gives the movie a realistic sense. You truly believe what she is going through. Judd and Jones are great actors, and I found their chemistry very natural! Please, I urge all of you to see this movie. It will not disappoint! There are also some wonderful Extras on this DVD which is an added bonus. I particularly loved "The Making Of," and found it really interesting!
Rating: Summary: Sad Waste of Talent Review: Ashley Judd and Tommy Lee Jones are two of the most talented actors around these days, and while they, like everybody else, have to make a living, it is sad that it has to be in pictures like this. Yet another in the line of wrong-fully-accused-innocent-oridinary citizen who develops amazing detective skills while fighting to avoid unjust punishment. This movie is about as long and bad as that last sentence. Ashley is great, and for some of her fans, just watching her for an hour and a half might make this movie. But, she and Jones are wasted in this "thriller". Anyone who doesn't know how this movie will end ten minutes after it started hasn't seen a movie since Carter was President. The plot is bad, and the ending is so obvious, anyone can call the action before it happens. If you want to see a thrilling, seat of your pants movie about somebody wrongfully accused, go back and watch "The Fugitive" again. This is just a cheap imitation of that excellent film. If it weren't for Ashley and Tommy, this wouldn't even merit two stars.
Rating: Summary: Tommy Lee Jones is adorable, but that ain't enough... Review: Remember "The Fugitive"? Well, in this flick (Double Jeopardy) TLJones is not a federal marshall but a former law professor turned probation office with all the emotional baggage behind having to switch from a snazzy career to a dudsy career. (or so we're led to believe...) However, the plot development of the emotional baggage is never really pursued... Continuing, instead of pursuing Harrison Ford, the brilliant cardiologist, he's chasing after Ashley Judd, another brilliant mind but with better legs than Harrison. (sorry Mr. Ford) I was disappointed. Tommy Lee Jones is a superior actor and both AJudd and Bruce Greenwood were very believable and compelling characters. But the script was a paper-thin remake of the Fugitive with a few white-outs and some rewording and scene changes. (though, not many...)
