Rating: Summary: What the Summer is All about! Review: I wanted to see this movie simply because of the cast. Stocked with 3 Oscar winners and a decent plot this movie is sure to please the "summer movie" goer. The film got a lot of bad reviews but I have to say that newspaper and magazine critics read into films of this type too deeply. Not all films are made to be Academy award winners! Many great films have so-so plots, good actors and actresses, and of course big explosions. Critics need to put a sock in it, this is what summer movies are all about baby! Either way go check out Gone in 60 Secs., it is sure to please the action movie goer and the car lovers! With a kick butt drive in a nitrous gassed '67 Shelby Mustang GT vs. a Police helicopter and a chance to see how hot Angelina Jolie is in a hot car this movie is worth 8 bucks. Lets Riiiiddde Baby!
Rating: Summary: See the original! (or Ronin) Review: In a word, Disappointing. I remember the original as the ultimate B-Movie for car afficionados. As a fan of the original, I was really looking forward to a high budget remake, oh well. They spend too much time on plot/setup considering that it's still no better than the original. The point of this movie is CARS. There is very little content for those who are into cars, and the chase seen itself falls far short. The quick edits don't allow the impact of the high speed driving to affect the viewer. If you want a Drivers car chase, see Ronin. The long sweeping chases in that movie blow the doors of GI60S. Watching the wheels lockup on the Audi as the driver drifts the car through turn after turn is truly amazing, and realistic.Note the position of the flatbed when Mamphis makes the 100MPH jump. I'm willing to suspend disbelief in order to enjoy a movie, but as a member of the audience, I don't want to be treated as an idiot. Two stars for the few cool car scenes.
Rating: Summary: As usual, the original is better. Review: After seeing this movie, I could not believe that H.B. Halinki's wife was the executive producer. She had to have been chosen to give some credability to the movie. Jerry Bruckheimer has taken a classic & destroyed it. It does not follow the original in any way except for the theft of 50 cars that have been given women's names. Nicolas Cage gives a good performance, but the great Robert Duvall is relegated to a minor character. He would have been more believable as the detective chasing Cage's character rather than as the retired partner holding down the fort marking the cars off the chalkboard. The reason for Rains estrangment from his brother Kip is not explained till 3/4 of the way through the movie. The side plot of rival car theives is only there to add un-necessary violence & Bruckheimer's signature explosions to the movie. Also, the premise that someone would actually leave a Shelby GT500 sitting in a parking garage is absurd. If I want to see stupid car jumps, I will watch the Dukes of Hazzard or Burt Reynolds in a Trans Am. Give me a break, how many times have you seen a roll back car hauler sitting in traffic with the bed down? Although the original written & starring H.B. Halinki now seems dated with the polyester leisure suits, it started the whole genre of the action & chase movies. The chase scene in it may still hold the record for destroyed cars in a film. Half of the movie centers on the chase through 7 cities. And no one who has seen it will ever forget the demolished yellow 73 Mach-1 coming out of the car wash. Lets hope that the new movie will spawn interest in the original & prod the studios to re-release it on video or dvd. Save the money & call Blockbuster to see if they still have an old copy of it as well as the sequel "The Junkman". You will be better entertained & not walk away asking yourself "what was that all about?"
Rating: Summary: Absolutely Wicked !!!!!!! Action Packed, Phenominal Review: 'Gone In Sixty Seconds' is an absolutely brilliant movie from the director of 'The Rock', 'Con Air' & 'Armageddon'. All of these are exceptional movies. It has some extremely fast cars in it that just make any car fan's eyes light up just as mine did. Highly Reccommended to everyone. Look out for the new movie from the same director. The new movie is 'Coyote Ugly'
Rating: Summary: Action Packed Film With Talented Cast!!! Review: While this film has nothing else to offer besides the final car racing scenes, it does have talent to spare, too bad it wasn't appreciated. Nicolas Cage takes another role in an action movie, this time as 'Super Car Thief' Memphis Raines. Cage is a very talented actor but in hie 'action' movies he plays the over-the-top one-dimensional character over and over again. Then there's Angelina Jolie who was underused and pops up every half-hour to remind us she's in the film. Robert Duvall, also a first rate actor, doesn't add a thing to the movie because of the mediocre screenplay. But don't get me wrong, once they start stealing cars the movie gets 'amusing', but never really shifts into full gear. Great car stunts near the end (some done by Cage himself), but not enough to save the film. Could of been better. From a scale of 1-10 I give this film a 5!
Rating: Summary: Another Bruckheimer monster! Review: How does Jerry Bruckheimer pick such winners to produce? Again teaming with Nicholas Cage (ala THE ROCK and CON AIR), he fills the screen with better than average characters and adrenalin pumping action. Now, this isn't high art filmmaking, but that's not what his movies are about. First off, I just started drooling over the beautiful cars from the first scene. Just the rental price for these cars must have cost half the movie's budget. Some people were disappointed that the setup took half the movie...I found it interesting and a great aspect of the movie. You can't just go out and steal 50 cars without a little planning. Once the stealing starts, though, this movie really takes off! The climax of the chase scene with the Mustang Shelby GT 500 was unbelievable. I'm wondering if that was a model car...I find it hard to believe that they'd use such a rare collector's car in scenes like that...and I'm sure that it wasn't the actual car that got mashed at the end. Master P makes a cameo as a rival car thief and does a pretty good job at it, too. The only real disappointment I had with this movie was the fact that Angelina Jolie's part was so small. She hardly got any screen time. If they'd given her more, I think it would have added a lot to the film. Other than that, I just wish there'd been a few more car chases. All in all, though, this is a very good movie. Right up there with most of Bruckheimer's other stuff. Go and see it.
Rating: Summary: So Fast, Your Shoulders Will Rattle Review: This movie was one of the best action flicks I have ever seen. Some people may not think the movie was funny, but let's see if you think so. This is an excerpt from a scene where a cop car (with someone in it) was shoved through a concrete wall by a wrecking weight. "Hey, man, are you alright?" "Yeah, I'm fine." "Are you sure? Cause you just went through a wall." If that didn't make you laugh, then the movie might fail you. However, ther are funnier scenes. The movie is about a retired car thief, and in order to save his brother's life, he must take up the job again and steal 50 select cars for a real jerk (the one who would kill his brother). The movie is rather funny, and the equipment used in this movie is amazing, along with how experienced the thiefs are. A lot of crashes, a good amount of car alarms, and the coolest cars you will ever see. This is ground for an action movie. The PG-13 rating is right, with lots of profanity, a little nudity, and a good amount of violence. But the movie is great, but there is one jump that looks impossible. So grab a stub, get some popcorn, a soda, and some Milk Duds, and get a good seat for this movie.
Rating: Summary: Tasty yet unfilling Review: It's all about what expectations you bring to a movie. If you're looking for fast cars and action, Gone in 60 Seconds delivers. Just don't go looking for anything more. In fact, if you watch action movies with any eye towards character or plot that might develop, prepare for a grating experience. There's nothing inherently wrong with a movie falling back on old conventions: the retired criminal being forced back into his old ways, for example. However, 60 Seconds keeps borrowing and borrowing without bringing anything new to the table. The movie is a composite of one-liner scenes and Hollywood Moments(tm), having no coherent vision to tie all the events together. Despite my disdain for the movie's plot, I'll refrain from commenting on particular events. However, the villain's eventual defeat is highly unsatisfying, a mere waypoint in the course of a Hollywood movie. The detective who hounds Cage's Randall Raines never seems dangerous enough (after his initial appearances) to be relevant. Angelina Jolie is woefully underused as a romantic (sex) interest for Cage. (Ms. Jolie, is this nonrole really what you wanted? I can only hope you were only doing it for the brainless fun of fast cars.) In short, Gone in 60 Seconds introduces several characters and plot elements, only to discard them; others exist only to fulfill Hollywood's quotas for one-liners, sex, or violence. It does keep the cool cars coming, though.
Rating: Summary: a must see Review: If you love cars and you love movies, this is a must see for you. Nicholas Cage with another awesome performance, is a car thief named Memphis. He has to steal 50 cars in one night in order to save his kid brother's life. The police catch wind of the deal and make their getaways a little complicated along the way. Action packed and full of suspense. You will absolutely love this movie.
