Summary: An allegory with action!
Review: This is an underappreciated film (at least in the film guides) which be enjoyed on many levels. It is most obviously a very entertaining action-adventure with great photography and driving stunts, but the real story is told through imagery and metaphor. It is set in the vast spaces of the western deserts, a place in which it is easy to feel free. But life is not that simple. The main character, Kowalski is pursued by the police for traffic violations, but his real crime is being an individualist who fails to conform to society. He chooses to try to outrun or ignore those forces rather than attempt to camouflage his true nature by blending in. At one point Kowalski meets an old man in the desert who helps him camouflage his car to avoid detection, but it is not in our hero's nature to live that way. The film is loaded with thought provoking imagery and has several interesting characters. There is a fine musical score with great lyrics to support the story. The soundtrack needs a remix and better equalization, so it is a challenge to understand the song lyrics. However, I'm very glad it is available on video again. It deserves to be remastered and put on DVD so it can be seen in widescreen, but the video transfer is a lot better than nothing, and the price is right. This is one of my favorites movies.

Summary: Pretty good
Review: I first saw this movie on Cinemax 2 one afternoon and liked it because of the whole car chase thing from Mad Max and Smokey and the Bandit. This movie has no point whatsoever but is still good. The chases were all filmed great and the Dodge Challenger itself was cool. But the movie doesn't have any big name actors with the possible exception of John Stamos. What else has newman done?

Summary: One of the coolest films, ever!
Review: This is one of those rare gems that gets better with each viewing. At first glance it looks extremely dated. Watch it again a few times and it will grow on you in a big way. Some stunning camerawork, a great soundtrack, a cool car (1970 Dodge Challenger), a contrasting Counterculture-vs-the-rural-West setting reminiscent of "Easy Rider" or "Billy Jack", a groovy blind D.J. named Super Soul, an encounter with a snake catcher in the desert who is a dead ringer for Edward Abbey (did anyone else catch that?), and lots of subtle references that you have to watch this film several times before you will catch. "Vanishing Point" has also been one of the more influential films ever made. The entire Smokey & the Bandit / Cannonball Run / Dukes of Hazzard genre owes volumes to this film. It all started here, folks. This would rate higher than 5 stars were it possible.

Summary: A True Car Movie. For the Drive-in, or VCR, TURN IT UP!!!!
Review: The popcorn might just sit in your bag, put the video on hold, call the pizza place, if there's one film that doesn't have a definite plot, but one you can't walk away from this is it You'll never look at a Dodge Challenger the same again.

Summary: True need for SPEED
Review: KOWALSKI, ex cop, ex race car driver leds us through 90 minutes of heaven. The tired hero running on empty keeps the lids open with a little help from his friends! Whether it be the great tunes stirred up by super soul from KOW (just happens be be kowalski's 1st three!) or the buddies with benzadrine, he runs us west from Denver in the spin of our lives. The hemi r/t Challanger has no equal! Interesting twist is take a look at the snake collector- what christmas favourite did he star in? no wonder years after Primal Scream put together audio disc called vanishing point!!! great tunes there as well. My tired worn out copy from '71 will now be put to rest. Thanks for bringing this action flick back for anone that knows hi reving sewing machines are just that! grab a case of beer, call up your buds and ....KOWALSKI, KOWALSKI, ARE YOU LISTENING...the last american hero!

Summary: A must have for a complete classic video collection
Review: Vanishing Point! Not many videos get better with age, and with every viewing, as this classic! The story of a troubled man, with the turbo charged Challenger stealing each scene. Philosophically, a race, initially of time and distance, but ultimately of the man, his past, and the car, with all finishing in a dead heat!
