Rating: Summary: Violent, disgusting, pointless Review: I find it sad that this movie has received such accolades when it's nothing more than one gratuitiously violent scene after another. For example (spoiler alert), early on in the movie, Uma Thurman kills the mother of a four-year-old girl -- right in front of her. (And since when do four-year-olds ride the schoolbus? Get a clue, Quentin.) Later, during the anime sequence, a young girl hides under the bed while her mother and father are brutally, graphically slaughtered. Ha, ha... am I supposed to laugh now? Do yourself a favor and skip this disgusting, unfunny waste of celluloid and buy something that will make you feel good. Like, say, Chaplin's "City Lights."
Rating: Summary: DON'T BUY THIS DVD! Review: Now, don't get me wrong- I LOVE THIS MOVIE! I'm in awe of Tarantino, love the postmodern ironic/unironic constant appropriation that infuses this movie with style, panache, thrills, and giggles. It's a GREAT movie! But, the DVD is TERRIBLE! A music video (not even a good one) of some wacky Japanese chicks (give me Shonen Knife anyday instead) and "The Making of..." is ALL you get for special features. And, And, AND,,, IT'S CENSORED! How come only ONE of Sophie's arms are cut off? Where's the second? HOW MUCH IS MISSING FROM THIS DVD? WHY ARE WE BEING SOLD A RE-EDITED VERSION OF THE THEATRICAL RELEASE???? Why? To make more money, to justify a stupid "director's cut". This is a rip-off, and I'm appalled that Tarantino, who claims to love cinema, should abuse us this badly. Wait for the director's cut... don't buy this piece of trash DVD.
Rating: Summary: Boring Mess! Review: Tarantino yanks his ankle once again. Takes a bite out of every film he has seen, chews it up, swallows it, then regurgitates the whole mess over his adoring fan base who obviously have not seen the original superior versions of the exploitation classics QT adores so much and steals from. Beats me why he's so popular. The late, great character actor Marc Lawrence had him pegged as a smartmouth Hollywood upstart and he was right on the money. In the "making of" doco on the dvd, Quentin talks of the (very inept) trashy Japanese girl band, The 5,6,7,8's, that he uses in "Kill Bill.". He says "They're Japanese, they play surf music! How cool is that?" No Quentin, that's NOT cool and neither is this pretentious mess of a movie.
Rating: Summary: Not for mature audiences. Review: I had low expectations for this film, and they were all satisfied. If I want to watch a cartoon, I'd rather watch Elmer Fudd chase Buggs around the barber chair. That would have clearly been the highlight of this movie, maybe Quentin saved it for Vol.2? One of the worst movies I've ever seen by formerly acknowledged talent. I dont know who inspired this "Charlie's Angels from Hell" mess, but I sincerely hope he finds another line of work. Really really bad. The DTS audio added some punch, but not enough. 2 Spitoons.
Rating: Summary: Terrible.... Review: Just terrible.. If you feel good after watching this movie, you are crazy. Recently, some movies like this and "Lost in Translation" just exaggerate Japanese culture. As one of Japanese living in the U.S., I say "Please, please don't do that. It's not funny."
Rating: Summary: Trite Bloodbath Review: I found this movie highly predictable and way more violent than any of the other movies. . The only really good moments are when they're playing a good piece of obscure music... ie, the intro song "Bang Bang" sung by Nancy Sinatra. My favorite moment was when the flute music plays at the end. (not a spoiler) I kept thinking what Japanese song this was and then I had the strange idea it could be Zamfir, but thought if it was it would be kind of a geeky joke between Tarentino and the few people who actually remember those tv ads for the panflute recordings... And by jove... the song is called "the Lost shepherd" performed by Zamfir. ;) If nothing else, I'll get a nice soundtrack of music from this movie. That's a guarantee with Tarentino movies. :D ~L~ who's giving her copy of Kill Bill to her brother
Rating: Summary: Didn't expect much, but..... Review: What a terrific movie.Fast paced and a great story. Taratino's use of different cinematic styles really keeps one riveted to the screen. Of course the action/fight scenes are overblown but Uma is fabulous. Can't wait to see Vol.2.
Rating: Summary: Incredible Review: Tarantino is a genius. I have never seen a movie quite like this, a movie that makes you laugh but also makes you sick. And this movie is SICK. RIGHT AFTER you insert the DVD into your player, the MENU is splattered with blood and images of the anime sequence in the film, which, in my opinion, was one of the most disgusting things I have ever seen in my life. It doesn't mean it was bad. Don't let this stop you from watching this movie. It's a shame that I didn't have the privilege of seeing this in theatres. The violence is hilarious...it's not that I'm a sick person, but Tarantino has a way of adding humor to all of the disturbing things in his movies. Pulp Fiction had the heroin O.D. scene. Reservoir Dogs had the cop's ear-slicing scene. But it's different this time. Tarantino has never made a film this gory (yet here in Canada it's only an 18A while P.F. and R.D. are R-rated...weird). There are people's arms being chopped off, heads being blown off, blood squirting all over the place (the American version has the House of Blue Leaves scene in BLACK AND WHITE because they had to in order to give this movie an R rating!!!) and laughs everywhere. Uma Therman is an incredible actress who is really very pretty, and the rest of the actors are excellent. It's crazy how the anime sequence makes you want to give sympathy to O Ren Ishii, even after all the terrible things she's done. This movie is simply amazing: little story, full action. The soundtrack is of course excellent. The cinematography is classic Tarantino. The DVD? Well...there's definately going to be a special edition, because only a few commercials and a making of segment is included with the movie. I can't wait until they combine the two movies like it was supposed to be. I would definately like to see an UNRATED version, an original cut. But for now, this is more than enough. Movie 9/10 Music 7/10 DVD 1/10
Rating: Summary: A Must See Review: This is an amazing film - Uma and Mr. T have definitely out-done themselves.
Rating: Summary: Kitsch. Review: I guess when you have money and connections in Hollywood you can slap together something as bad as this and call it a movie.
