Rating: Summary: Pirates of the Caribbean Review: I have yet to buy the DVD but when I saw this movie on my 35th birthday I fell in love once again with Johnny Depp. Although I thought there was a bit too many swash buckling fight scenes, this movie overall was awesome, well acted and one I will buy once it is available. Thank you Disney for bringing my most favorite ride to the silver screen.
Rating: Summary: Greatest Movie of the 21 Century Review: This is by far the best movie I've seen since I don't know when. I know everybody probably gets tired of hearing "Oh my gosh Johnny Depp was incredible!" but it's true. The who movie is a masterpeice wort seeing again and again. The proformances the director gets out of his actors are astonishing. The special effects are brilliant, and the whole movie in general seems to give off some kind of aura making you feel like you're in the movie. OK now I'm running out of big words to call this movie, but they're a 100% true. If this isn't your perfect dream movie, your having bad dreams.
Rating: Summary: A Good Long Movie? Here is One.... Review: Unlike some of the reviews, I do not have an obsession with Orlando Bloom or Johnny Depp. However, I saw this movie three times at theatres because each time I found even more jokes to laugh at. Most of the laughing was at Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, who I now believe is in the top three of talented actors. He was also good in older movies like Chocolat and Edward Scissorhands, and he is almost that good in this movie. The plot may be lengthy and elaborate at times, but if you like pirate movies, laughter, heck, if you like movies, this is a must-see. It made a lot of money in 2003 for good reason.
Rating: Summary: EXCELLENT! Review: This was a fantastic movie! Usually I am strictly a comedy type of girl. We were asked by some friends to go see the movie and we came out loving it. We are frequent Disney guests and there were a few hints of the ride at Disney World which you would only get if you have been on it. I don't really like Johnny Depp but thought he was wonderful in this movie. Great story and you never lost interest at any point and time.
Rating: Summary: Johnny Depp is awesome! Review: The funny thing is I went to watch this movie only because Orlando Bloom was in it but now am completely obsessed with Johnny Depp! He did an amazing job in it and deserves a best actor nomination (at least) for this part. This movie had everything a good film has: action, humor, romance, it's just fantasic! The special effects were outstanding, don't know what else to say, it was just great!!!!!
Rating: Summary: 1 word- ORLANDO!!!! Review: I intentionally went here to see Orlando. I mean hot guy who played the cute elf- why not?! But I loved the whole movie and Johnny Depp was fantastic! (along with Orlando)! But the reason I rate this four stars is because kiera and Orli kissed. No like!!!! She shouldn't have the rite to do that! She has just as much rite as me. But I have never been on the ride and from what I hear it had nothing to do with the ride. I did luv the movie. It was funny. I mean u have the fabulas Johnny and Orlando what else are you going to get. And other than Kiera I would rate this 5 stars. Go Orlando and Johnny!! and keep up the good work
Rating: Summary: But Why Is The Rum Gone?!?! Review: This film is truly a piece of cinematic gold. From Johnny Depp's flawless portrail of Captain Jack Sparrow, (who is quite possibly the greatest Disney character ever created), to that of the newest hot faces to find Hollywood, those of Orlando Bloom & Kiera Knightley, Pirates has something for everyone. The story is that of young Elizabeth Turner, (Knightley) the stunning daughter of Port Royal's Governor, and her run in with the crew of the Black Pearl, a hoard of treasure-seeking pirates. With help from the local blacksmith (Bloom) and the bumbling former-captain of the Black Pearl, Captain Jack Sparrow (Depp), the three must put to end to the curse haunting the crew of Captain Barbossa (Geoffrey Rush) and reclaim the Pearl for Cap'n Jack. Definately an experience not to be avoided, despite the film being based on, of all things, an amusement park ride. Clearly the crowd favorite, Captain Jack always knows what he's doing, despite outward appearances. As a media critic, I highly suggest this film for anyone looking for action, romance, humor, and if nothing else, some of the prettiest faces ever to hit the big screen.
Rating: Summary: Arrrrrgh! There be Pirates!! Review: FUN FUN FUN! This movie made me really happy when I saw it in the theatres and you'd better believe I'll be buying the DVD (or asking for it for Christmas!). Despite what critics say, my whole family and nearly all my friends thought this movie was glorious! The cinematography was beautiful and fun! What's better than ship scenes actually shot ON the ocean instead of on a sound stage? Details like this made this movie a swashbuckling treat!! Keira Knightly was gorgeous as Miss Swan, Orlando Bloom oh-so-sweet and dashing, and Johnny Depp?? It's JOHNNY DEPP! What more does one need to say? His Keith Richards-esque pirate is top-notch. Geoffrey Rush is a brilliant actor and is spot-on as the trecherous Barbossa. William Daveport's baddie-goodie Commodore Norrington is convincing and strong. He may have been competition for Elizabeth's affection, but at least he mans the rescue mission! Kudos to the film-makers and casting director. I don't think one character was mis-cast. And I loved the costumes! While this movie can't be classified as a period-film (and who cares!), the costumes are beautiful and detailed! I swoon for Redcoats and they abound in this movie. The little details are fabulous, from the wigs to the corsets and even the "proper" behavior of Will Turner not calling Miss Swann by her first name, "Elizabeth", was an historic detail that won my approval (Calling *formal* friends by their first names wasn't a standard practice. Only the most intimate of friends did so! A male/female friendship would probably stay at last names, lest someone think there were romantic intentions between them! In romantic relationships, first names was ok, but probably not in public). I hope they keep the "real" ending on the DVD. (Stupid monkey!!!) (I thought that was cute, though, that even the monkey is cursed) The story is pretty original, to me (b/c what really is "original" nowadays?) and I think it's good-humored, light-hearted entertainment....
Rating: Summary: "I'm Captain Jack Sparrow..." Review: Pirates of the Carribean is the best movie of the summer of 2003. It draws you in, throws you off a plank, shoots you through a canon, and spits you back out. It's just a wild ride. The whole overall feel of the movie is so... refreshing. Just the swashbucking, scurvy mates, ahoy... that hasn't been done in so long. The sword fights are great, the moonlight effects are excellent, plus bonus points for having a demon monkey. I really liked Keira Knightly, whose scenes on the island with Johhny Depp are just so fun. Orlando Bloom and Geoffrey Rush do well with their parts, but the movie is really stolen by Johnny Depp. His amazingly hilarious Jack Sparrow is an example of great acting. He created a whole little world with his character, with his pronunciation, and his wacky hand motions. Don't miss out on this amazing film!
Rating: Summary: I Wish I Was As Cool as Johnny Depp! Review: Okay, the movie is all right, but you have to see this movie for Johnny Depp's character--his character gets 6 stars. It's so brilliant! He spends the whole movie basically making a mockery of his role--overdoing his gestures, slurring his speech, walking around like a drunken fool--it's amazing. The movie is your basic high-budget, romance/action summer blockbuster adventure, but Depp takes it to a whole new level. His performance is so genius because he makes a fool out of Hollywood throughout the whole film. I heard that they actually had to make him tone down his performance by getting rid of a few gold teeth and toning down the black eyeliner that rims his eyes. I guess I just really enjoyed it because he was making fun of the idea of selling out and doing a big-budget film.
