Summary: Brilliant
Review: This film was a bit of a surprise over the summer because it was so phenominally successful. It lasted for months in the cimema and now will probably do extremely well on video and dvd.It's a fairly classic pirate story - cursed ship, fiesty lady, man who loves her, humorous pirates with no real harm in them and nasty pirates with lots of harm in them - but it's much more. It's extremely funny and the story does carry a few surprises and an awful lot of nice touches. The star is Johnny Depp as Captain Jack Sparrow, a pirate who turns up in Port Royale, a English settlement in the Caribbean. The same evening the Port Royale is attacked by the Black Pearl - a mysterious ship rumoured to be crewed by the damned who happen to be looking for a piece of treasure. The ship sails away with the treasure and with Elizabeth (Kiera Knightly) the Governor's daughter. Cue the start of an adventure for William (Orlando Bloom) the blacksmith, who is of course in love with her and who persuades Captain Jack Sparrow to help him sail after the Black Pearl. There is actually a good story in this film, and enough happens that it never feels too long. It twists backwards and forwards, and you're never quite sure who's side everyone is on. Humour aside this would still be a decent film - but with the laughs it's a film I'd watch again and again. There are also some wonderful effects - the ships are marvellous but the scenes of the cursed pirates (without giving too much away) are really well done, and the swordfights are a lot of fun. In all, a brilliant film.

Summary: Great Pirate Flick
Review: This movie was just plain fun. Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom capture the whole sprit of the Pirate life. It makes you want to just start swahbuckling along with the characters. I was a bit skeptical of this film at first. Movies that seem to be inspired from rides, board games or video games can seem like dodgy business, but Disney and Gore Verbinski did a great job cooking up a decent plot and adding a little supernatural element to the whole story. You have hand it to Johnny Depp. He definitely stole the show playing the quirkiest pirate that existed on screen who still exhibited warmth, wit and charm. If you think back on the Pirate movies you've seen, name the one whose personality stands out like Captain Jack Sparrow. Adventure seekers can identify with this. Great DVD to add to your collection.

Review: Shut Up! this is the greatest adaptation of a theme park attraction made into movie, I thaught it was supposed to be the other way around, but anyway, this vid, is the greatest, action, romance, suspense, comedy, well Johnny Depp deserve the OSCAR for this, you totally buy that he is drunk all the movie, Orlando Bloom shines, as wel as Geoffrey Rush, thisa flick has it all, entertaing all the way that's why I bought it, it's a total classic now. So do you believe in ghost cos you're about to see a movie about it!

Summary: A little bit of Jack, and then some .....
Review: Interested in something a little different from the rest? ... Pirates of the Caribbean: the curse of the black pearl, is a most entertaining movie ..... packed to the brim with action, adventure, excellent animation, and a star studded cast - Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom, and Geoffrey Rush - you couldn't ask for more! I admit coming into the movie I was a little sceptical as to how "good" the movie was going to be, but I was pleasantly surprised by Johnny Depp's exceptionally entertaining interpretation, of Jack, and his ensuing performance - it made the movie. The other thing that caught me by surprise was the similarity between the movie and the novel "on stranger tides" by Tim Powers ..... anyone who's read this book could easily mistake this movie as an adaptation of the book .... an excellent adaptation none the less! .... if you want a really good read then this is a great book (by the way). Anyways, if you are keen on an interesting, entertaining adventure with exceptional special effects, and plenty of action, then you have got to see this movie - buy, borrow, or rent it .... it is a must see! This baby has my AA++ rating - it's one of the best movies I've seen all year! It doesn't get better than this!

Summary: Great Movie
Review: This is a great movie. Johnny Depp is excellent as well as most of the cast besides Orlando Bloom who I liked in Lord of the Rings but didn't think this was his cup of tea. I really like the story and the characters which is the main point of any movie unless you are a teenager who has the attention span of a minute and unless something blows up every 5 seconds they think the movie sucks. If you like a good story with well developed characters then this is a great movie to see. Next to Firefly this is my next favorite thing to watch. I hope they make a sequel and it is just as good as the original.

Summary: Rip roaring fun
Review: Non stop action from the first scene. Good old fashioned swashbucking entertainment. Don't take it too seriously heck - don't take it seriously at all. Try to have as much fun watching it as Johnny Depp had making it. (...). They program the disk to disable the buttons in order to force you to watch the trailer ads. The screen says to use the MENU button to bypass but it doesn't work on Panasonic, Sony and JVC players. It does however work on GoVideo players.

Summary: What a Stinker
Review: I had high hopes with this one, but true to form, Disney let me down AGAIN. What a stinker! The plot, if there was one must have been concocted during a drunken spree. And speaking of drunk, Depp acted like he WAS drunk during this whole mess. Depp does NOT belong in a period film. Maybe a mental ward, but that's another story. Granted, the special effects were outstanding, but face it, this movie was sinking from the start. I love pirate flicks, but this one really deserves to be buried. And can we please get away from everyone doing impersonations of "Robert Newton" from Treasure Island ?!!! The two British soldiers acting like Laurel & Hardy was bad enough! My advice ? The entire cast, directors and crew should be "Morris dancing" for this dribble. (If you don't know what "Morris Dancing" is, it's an 18th Century term which means to swing from the gallows!)

Review: Everything about this film reeks of Hollywood. Kiera Knightley always has makeup after getting drowned or punched or something that would usually inflict makeup. Depp is very good, gives it an extra star. The rest is bulls**t, and I would rather bash my head repeatedly on a car bonnet.

Review: I'm sorry that all I can give this movie is 5 stars. I went because a friend wanted to go. I was not terribly fond of Johnny Depp. After EDWARD SCISSORHANDS he was always that weird actor who does weird movies and I avoided him like the proverbial plague. I cannot even begin to express how this movie blew me right out of the water (sorry about that!) but it did. I had been going through a rough period in my life and for the first time in 2 years I smiled, I laughed, I got so taken up in the storyline (and Jack Sparrow's eyes) that for 2 1/2 hours I completely forgot my troubles. The story, the acting, the scenery, the cinematography, the special effects, and the music .. the BEST movie score I've heard in years (it's a crime that it didn't get an Oscar nomination but at least Johnny did) --- all combine to make one of the most enjoyable movies I've seen in the past 10 years!!!
