Summary: Pirates of the carribean: the curse of the black pearl
Review: This was a great movie. It had action, drama, suspense, and some scary aspects. I think when a movie can keep the attention of the viewer for the entire length of the movie it is definitly a great flick. Even the kids in the theater didn't make a disruptive sound the whole time this means a lot because i went to a sold out show where there were tons of little kids. Overall I think this is one of Johnny Depps best rolls. Definitly worth the money to go see it.

Review: I waited for so long to see this movie, and it was just as awesome as I expected it to be, maybe even better. I've already seen it twice, and I might go see it again this weekend. Johnny Depp was AWESOME as Capt. Jack Sparrow, and Orlando Bloom kept me drooling, esp in those (many) scenes where he was soaking wet... YUM!"Stop blowing holes in my ship!" "Try not to do anything stupid" "Bloody Pirates!" Hehe seriously, GO SEE THIS MOVIE! It's got romance, comedy, drama, swordfights, and hot guys- what more could you want?

Summary: Pure FUN!!!
Review: Sometimes unchecked and unbridled capitalism works. Granted the concept of basing a movie on an amusement park ride inspires the cynic. However, although nothing more than a painfully obvious big scale corporate ploy to increase sales of overpriced theme park admission tickets, souvenirs, concessions and brand name recognition in the fast food, stripmalling bland landscape that has become our contemporary American culture, PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN is simply the first summer film rich enough to thoroughly deserve multiple viewings. It is the first film in a long time that inspired heartfelt and hearty applause from the audience. Using colorful costume and set design, a fine music score, a surprisingly witty script, gorgeous cinematography evoking both Howard Pyle's THE BOOK OF PIRATES and NC Wyeth, director Gore Verbinsky deftly allows his cast to become his greatest special effect. Lustily channeling the robust spirits of Douglas Fairbanks, Errol Flynn and a tinge of the young Peter O'Toole, Johnny Depp and Orlando Bloom create a pair of vivid and dashing heroes who put the swash back in the buckle. Both appear natural born cutlass and dagger men. Geoffery Rush makes a delightfully roguish villain while resurrecting the delectable scenery chewing of Claude Rains, Basil Rathbone and the great god of overacting Robert Newton. Escapist films should play like amusement park rides and PIRATES OF THE CARRIBEAN does that (as it has for almost fifty years).Simply and purely fun, this is the summer film to savor and celebrate. Pass the popcorn matey.

Summary: "Pirates" possibly one of the Best Movies of the Summer!
Review: After Disney's first atempt at turning an attraction into a movie miserably failed (Country Bear Jamboree), it turned out that they hit the jackpot with their second try, "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl". Under most circumstances, I don't think that movies in the "pirate genre" would be high on my list to go see, but in this case, I had to make an exception based on the previews and the fact that Johnny Depp had the lead role as Captain Jack Sparrow, so along with a sold out audience of about 200 people, I set sail to watch my first pirate movie. The plot of the movie is somewhat easy to follow, but there are some definite twists. The movies starts by showing a young Elizabeth Swann aboard one of the royal ships of the British Colony. They rescue a boy who is lying, lifeless on a raft in the middle of the ocean. The boys name is Will Turner, Fast forward eight years later to a small British Colony in the Caribbean Sea. The quiet town becomes a bit shaken up when Captain Jack Sparrows (Johnny Depp) arrives in a pitiful excuse for a ship. The Colonists try for some time to capture him, and eventually do, but not without a fight. During this span of time, he tries to overtake a British ship, saves Elizabeth Swann's (Keira Knightly) life and has a high action sword fight with Blacksmith Will Turner (Orlando Bloom). One night, the infamous crew of the Black Pearl bombards the British Island, captures Swann and seizes a medallion which she took from the neck of Will Turner. The Black Pearl, which once belonged to Captain Sparrows had been taken over by the unruly Captain Barboosa (Geoffrey Rush). Turner and Sparrows decide to team up so that Turner can save Swann and Captain Sparrows can get his ship back. From this point the two set sail with a small crew on a lackluster ship to find the area where the crew of the Black Pearl live. Also at this time, Barboosa tells Elizabeth the story about the medallion and about the curse on the Black Pearl. For ten years, the crew had been looking for the last medallion made of the Aztec Gold which had been stolen. The curse was that the crew would turn into the "living dead" when they stood in the moonlight. Because of this they were unable to eat, but also unable to be killed. During this point of the movie there are a few twists in the story to keep you hooked. The Black Pearl crew captures Sparrows and makes both him and Elizabeth walk the plank. They both end up on an island and are later picked up by the British Royal Officers. The next major scene is a brawl between Captains Barboosa and Sparrows, as well as a battle between the two crews and the British Royal Navy. Eventually the curse is broken and Barboosa is killed. The movie is filled with exciting scenes and great animation when it comes to the skeletons. The actors all do a pretty good job, but like most of the other reviews said, Johnny Depp IS this movie. He makes his character come to life and his humor and unpredictable moves keep you engrossed in what is going on and keep the 2 hour 15 minute film moving. I would have to say that unlike many of the summer's movies, this one is definitely worth the price of admission. I would advise people of all ages to go see the movie and pick up the DVD once it comes out.

Review: Ahoy, me hearties! The pirate movie be back and, blimey, if it be keelhaulin' the scurvy-ridden bilge that be marooned in yon summer theaters. Pirates Of The Caribbean: Curse Of The Black Pearl is a big, sprawling adventure. The kind you don't see anymore and it's a damn shame. The script is smart. It allows the characters to figure things out. It keeps you in the film. Yeah, it may be a tad too long at its two hour and twenty-four minute run time, but it flies by a good portion of the time. The acting is superb with not a single person acting in any self-conscious way that would reveal they are in a pirate movie. Geoffrey Rush is great as Captain Barbossa with his pirate-like growl. He even utters "Arrrr" much to the delight of the audience. Casting off his turn as an elf, Orlando Bloom takes on the unlikely hero role with vigor enough to prove his acting chops. Of course, the real star here is Johnny Depp as the fey pirate, Jack Sparrow, a pirate captain without a ship. In fact, Depp gets the best movie entrance this summer in a leaky, sinking dinghy. His character he claims is based on Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones and it shows. He is half-crazed and swishes around delivering the best lines in the film. Yet, he is completely believable and never goes (dare I say it?) overboard. I say it's about damn time the Academy stood and noticed one of our generation's most versatile and creative actors, but that's just me. Pirates is one of those adventure films that will have you grinning with pleasure through most of its high-spirited hijinks and is right behind Finding Nemo for pure summer fun. Ye be a swab if ye miss this one. Sink me, if I don't be givin' this movie four st-arrrrs.

Summary: Salty 'Ol Good Time!
Review: I loved this movie..point blank. I think all men (boys at heart)...dreamed at one point of being a pirate...the lore, mystery, danger and utmost spontaneous nature of a pirates life is rather pleasing to most adventurous menfolk. This movie only spurned me further along! Depp....I feel a sissy on most other fronts, delivers a solid performance both displaying his witty charm and a daring charisma. The script does lead well to his strengths. Orlando Bloom is the Ben Afleck of the future...and Ms. Knightley..WOW.....Mr. Rush delivers a controlled performance.....I thought his character could have been a little bolder considering the nature of his being I thought he was a bit tame...Great visuals.....ILM is awesome. I think there is nothing we cannot see on film now....GO SEE IT! Twice..three times....I cant wait till the DVD comes out!
I wont discuss the plot as to not ruin it for you..It's a great adventure, fun and exilarating....I happen to live very close to Disneyland and visit the attraction frequently...and this only fans the flames! AAAAAAAArrrrrgggghhhhh!

Summary: Arrrrr You Ready For Depp In A Hollywood film?
Review: This film was a rare exception to the rule. I normally can't stand big budget action movies and all the safe routes and cliches they recycle time and again. I'd have to say that this is one of the best to come along in a long time. I was EXTREMELY hesitant when I saw the Bruckheimer name attached to this project, but there were two things that inspired me to go: 1)Johnny Depp. If he was able to make an exception and succumb to do a flick like this, I know it had to have redeeming qualities. 2) It's a pirate movie. Granted, no one has been able to do a pirate film just right(in my eyes anyway), but I like the attempts. 1995's flop, Cutthroat Island was pretty much the last pirate movie we had and was very good regardless of box office performance. Sure, this film falls victim to the standard cliches of a big budget summer movie, and there are a few too many attempts at humor than I'd like in a pirate movie, but ultimately the good outweighs the bad here. It's a good pirate flick with a good old fashioned ghost story thrown in. Kinda like a two and a half hour, PG-13, Disney version of John Carpenter's The Fog with Johhny Depp. Speaking of Johhny Depp, his performance is one of the best things(if not THE best) about this film. We all know Depp's talent for playing quirky characters, but he brings it to a Disney film! I read that he played the character the way he wanted to, and no one really got in his way. Now that's cool! You don't tell Johhny Depp how to act! He seems like he hasn't been able to totally shake off his Hunter S. Thompson impersonation, coz he's got alot of that going on in this film. The hand movements are still there, but mostly he acts like he's drunk the entire film. Geoffrey Rush does a good job with his role of the villian. He's not terrifying or anything, but he really gets into the pirate mode, and has some great dental work. This one's worth going to the theater and spending forty dollars on a small popcorn and soda for. I was impressed. If you like it, make sure you catch Cutthroat Island if you missed it the first time around(odds are you did). It's got a strong female lead(Geena Davis) which was a great choice coz women played a rather large role as pirates back in the day(some very vicious ones I've read), but that's never been captured on film. Summary: I did barely remember
Review: I barely remember the ride from visiting Disney 12 years ago, But there were a couple of things I remembered like the dog with the keys and the haunting chill you got when you saw the black ship sails. I think this is the perfect summer flick for anyone over 8. There are plenty of men for girls and mothers to swoon over and enough adventure for any guy. The skeleton makeup is great and not too scary to watch. There is almost enough anxiety for you to feel sorry for the undead pirates. Theonly thing I did not like was the fight scene was 7- 10 min too long.(IMOP) I will be getting this on DVD for shure.

Summary: Mumbo Jumbo
Review: I slid my 100 lbs between a mega size drink perched on a holder on one side, and a baby-car-seat overflowing with a smelly baby on the other. I've come to see Geoffrey Rush in The Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, at AMC. The Journal's critic has painted a no-plot kind a film but has praised the acting of Rush and Depp, though I'm not expecting a knockout, but ... my heart is beating. The start takes me by surprise...the one who holds the camera knows what he is doing. The angles...unexpected...well chosen, and the lovely colors are almost fascinating; the film breathes. But the action starts and siphons the price of my ticket down the drain. Either the director has lost control of the action or the editor is mad but the result is an indescribable mumbo, jumbo. I promise myself to remember the name of the director and to avoid his action films. For your knowledge, the film is 75% action and the Journal's critic is right: " A sword fight that goes on and on with skeletons -who have nothing to lose" is too much for me too. It causes my derriere to shift right and left. I yawn, cough and try to see the time on my neighbor's watch. Later my son, who hasn't seen the film, disagrees on this last point:
" In fantasy" he says, " an adversary who has an unfair advantage makes the action all that more 'heroic".
Perhaps if I were three years old; but in this case, the fights bore me.
Now I come to the acting; well viewed by the critics. Depp, ironically, is as I was expecting Rush to be: quick, naughty, spirited and well packaged in an unusually attractive costume. His tone, his lines, his gestures, even his make-up are delightful and ad another dimension to the usual hook and eye patch. Rush, on another hand, has contracted the frenzy of the fights. He is doing too much of everything and becomes a caricature of himself. Only his last line: "I feel old" is delivered well, very well. So well, it almost redeems his share of the mess.

Summary: Pirates Rock!
Review: I've read many reviews on Pirates of the Carribean and have come to the conclusion that a lot of those people have no taste and don't know what a good movie is. I thought when I first saw the previews of Pirates that it would be good, but not one of the best movies I've seen, but that's just what it is. I enjoyed this movie all the way through and never lost interest. Johnny Depp was more than Awesome as was Kiera Knightley and Orlando Bloom. I thought that when I came out from seeing the movie that I would be in love with Orlando, but instead I love Johnny Depp. His costume and the way he talked and acted made the movie as funny as it is and if he hadn't been in it, it probably would have been a dud. But also Orlando makes it great and especially Keira, whom is the perfect "damsel in distress" with beautiful dresses, great character and an awesome attitude. Orlando played perfectly also, with his great swordsman ship with Johnny and how well they acted together. The movie was, as I've said, greater than Awesome and I for sure will go to the theatre again and again to see it until they either take it out or until they finally put it on DVD.
I loved this movie and I recommend it to everyone.
And I can't wait to have it on DVD!!!
