Summary: ARE YOU READY FOR THE PIRATES?
Review: "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl" exceeded my expectations. Having heard it was produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, I was thrilled. But when I heard that director Gore Verbinski, who had done the horrendous "Mouse Hunt" and the overrated ghost thriller "The Ring," was directing, and not to mention Walt Disney Pictures' first PG-13 rated film, my anticipation dimmed. Then I saw the finished product, and was amazed! The casting of the film was perfect, from Johnny Depp's Jack Sparrow to Orlando Bloom's Will Turner. The action sequences, now a trademark of Jeryy Bruckheimer Films, are incredible, and ILM's horrid and disqusting dead pirate effects are brilliant. The film is by far Disney's best live-action film yet! Grade: A+

Summary: Errol Flynn Fan
Review: Two Words: Great Movie!! If you're a fan of the old Errol Flynn pirate flicks, then I think you'll be pleasantly surprised by what a good time you have with Curse of the Black Pearl. This pirate movie is Errol Flynn meets Indiana Jones. Johnny Depp makes a great pirate with the long hair and grimy appearance, yet is pleasantly funny and very charming. The plot is great, never slows down and even has a great twist near the end. At the end of this sold out movie, the entire theatre erupted in applause!

The special effects are amazing, costumes are perfect, acting by the cast is wonderful! I'm hoping for a sequel. I'm not one who runs out and buys videos, but will definitely get this one when it's released. Its so much fun!

For parents wondering if you can take your kids, I'd say yes if kids are about ten just because of the corpse crew which might be a little scary for the younger kids. Pleasantly, though, there are no swearing or sexual situations and just one small kiss at the end. There are of course swashbuckling sword fights and battles, but that's what pirate movies are all about!

Summary: Okay, Academy - are you watching????????
Review: I came to the movie not caring much for Depp or Disney pictures. (drug along by the family) and tonite I am going to see it for the fourth time!!

From his hilarious and unconventional arrival onscreen to his final shot singing his favorite buccaneer tune from the deck of his beloved ship, Johnny Depp's performance as Captain Jack Sparrow kept me entranced. His facial expressions, use of humor, and his characterization of Captain Jack Sparrow was magnificent -made even MORE impressive when I read that he pushed the envelope with the director and producers to allow him to 'flesh out' this character 'his way' - promising them he would deliver. He did. I know it's a Disney flick, I know it was somewhat campy and humorous, I know a lot of people think this must be a kid's movie - well, turn off your expectations and enjoy this movie - and FOR ONCE - I am directing this at HOllywood and the Academy - make us all happy and give this man an Oscar for the developing the most memorable character I have ever enjoyed on the silver screen in 50 years! ARRGGGHHH!!!

Summary: sad treatment for jack
Review: I did like the humor in this but i really did not like the way the horrid so called lovers treated jack. It really makes me dislike them, treating him like crap for their selfish gain when he lends a hand out. So many times jack should have sent what is coming to them for the horrable treatment he got. The so called hero in this movie the son of william the booteneer..i can understand being hard in the beginning but continuing his cruel sharade was just heartless. And his so called female companion a whiny, gripy wench who uses jack for what she wants and has no understanding or compassion. The graphics were good, the bad guys were cool, jack had a nice style on his own but he deserves more honor and respect than they ever gave him in this movie and the lack of it just leaves a bad bitter taste in my mouth. I wont buy this movie. I'm sorry Johnny Depp had to play such a underappricated and abused character.

Summary: The Critics didn't lie-- Most Fun you'll have at the Movies!
Review: First of all, I am a huge fan of the popular Disneyland ride, so I was thrilled to find that parts from the attraction were in the movie. This movie had everything-- Great Special effects (but not stupid ones)! Loads of adventure (Cursed pirates, how cool is that?). There was also comedy and romance--I know people who hate movies that loved this one. Jack Sparrow (Johnny Depp) was hilarious, Captain Kobossa (Geoffrey Rush) was really creepy, and Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann (Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley) are the perfect young heroes! Go see this movie!!!!!

Summary: I prefer the ride.
Review: Disney has now come full circle: having had many of their amusement park rides based on their movies, they now are basing their movies on their amusement park rides. (One can imagine what's next: *SPACE MOUNTAIN* . . . *IT'S A SMALL WORLD* . . . oooh, the possibilities.) However, *Pirates of the Caribbean*, despite some deliberately placed echoes -- such as the prisoners' attempt to bribe with a bone the keys-bearing jailhouse dog -- doesn't FEEL much like the ride at Disneyland. Much of Walt's "ahoy thar, matey!" ambience has been replaced with newer, trendier elements, like the kick-butt heroine, the pop-culture anachronisms, and the computer-generated special effects. One thing the movie has going for it is a closer sense of realistic action. This, however, does not speak well for today's action movies: a film featuring the GHOSTS of pirates should not seem more plausible than other summer fare, but there you have it. The point is, they may be ghoulish, skeletal, Undead creatures, but at least they don't defy the laws of physics. (The only "flying combat" in this movie occurs when characters grasp a pulley-hook attached to a long rope and slide across.) There are some very well-done CG moments, such as when the ghost-pirates, who only appear AS ghosts in full moonlight, shape-shift from skeleton to human whenever they pass in or out of the moonlight. But director Gore Verbinski relies too much on jump cuts, fast editing, and sheer noise to pump up excitement. The acting? Relative newcomer Orlando Bloom seems to specialize in old-fashioned, colorless but sturdy heroes (cf. *The Lord of the Rings*). His presence is somewhat of a relief alongside Johnny Depp, who plays "Capt. Jack Sparrow" as a sort of gypsy-costumed Hunter S. Thompson, right down to the lurching gait and twitchy mannerisms. (Some pirate! Sheesh.)
