Summary: to spidey or not to spidey
Review: There are a lot of reviews here that speak about how the movie stayed faithful to the comic book. I sadly beg to differ.
Spider man never had webs oozing out from his anatomy, he had to sweat in his private lab to devise a gadget that would sling the web.The movie keeps dropping hints about Peter Parkers phenomenal scientific intellect but there is nothing in the moive that seems to point in that direction.The Green Goblin looks like a robotic contraption unlike the comic book. Also PETER DOES NOT GRADUATE WITH THE REST OF HIS CLASS.
This is in no way a faithful comic book adaptation.
This is a sugar sweet schmucky movie with bad dialogues , bad cgi and mediocre performances catering to the 8 year old bed wetting crowd.
SNAP OUT OF IT.

Summary: Top notch action film
Review: Wow!Since Hollywood has gone completely creatively bankrupt, it seems that comics are the last bastion of "new" material for them to use for films. Too often these films are very poor renditions of their comic counterpart: Batman and Robin; The Fantastic Four; Spiderman TV series; The Punisher; Captain America; and Tank Girl. There's always room for creative license when transferring mediums, but what is often an overthought is the fan base. Who goes to see comics to film? Young adults and kids do. What do they expect? Well, they expect something worth their 9 or 10 bucks - that's what. Spiderman delivers a whole lot of film and a whole lot of fun for the money (Okay - so I still think films are waaaaay too expensive, but that's another story). Toby McGuire IS Peter Parker! Rami cast the part (in fact all the parts) perfectly. He was right on that it didn't matter who played Spiderman, because whoever it was would be completely disguised. Peter Parker was the tough character to cast. Willem DaFoe is excellent as the Green Goblin. How about the story? It could not have been told more appropriately and succinctly than it is. Basically, it is the original story from 1962 about how Peter Parker becomes imbued with superhuman powers to later become Spiderman. Some have argued that Rami and the writers took too much liberty with the character by allowing his web-creation to be internal as opposed to manufactured by Peter. I beg to differ. I think that Rami et al made that aspect of the character BETTER than the comic version. Folks, this is a movie. That said, it's a movie based on a beloved comic and its lead character - and I think that the movie is just about the best comic to film rendition ever done. Marvel would do well to follow its own example from this film and use the same logic with the next XMen film and any subsequent comics to film made. Go see this film!

Summary: Finally...Spider-Man Is Done Right!
Review: This won't be a long review, since a lot of reviews have been written. All I have to say is....this is a GREAT movie! Having had to endure CBS' made for tv Spider-Man movies in the '70's, this movie is a long time coming. Finally, the film-makers get the story & characters right, staying true to the comic-book. It helps that Sam Raimi is a Spider-Man fan & his vision & Stan Lee's/Steve Ditko's/John Romita's originals are very close. (Raimi updated the story to the new millenium from the 1960's comic-book.) Most viewers & ALL comic-book fans will enjoy this movie. (There was a recent viewer who put this film down while admitting that he's not a Spider-Man fan to begin with. Well, with all respect, if you feel that comic-books are "beneath you", then this movie isn't for you.) But if you want a mature approach to fantasy & action-adventure, then this movie is a dream come true! Let's see if "Daredevil" & "The Hulk", scheduled for next year, will be just as good.

Summary: Awesome.
Review: I was shocked by how good this movie is. When I first heard about it last summer, I thought it would be a cheap PG kids movie that only costed [$] to make. I was so wrong. Turns out they actully paid [$] to make this movie, and it is PG-13. Not just for kids. The special effects are great. I could watch Spider-Man web-sling all day. It looks so real, the movements of his body and the way his muscles move. I mean, it probably IS REAL!! Which is what I would've believed if it weren't for Green Goblin. Don't get me wrong; he's one of the best supervillians I've ever seen. But, his costume looks PLASTIC! But, still, he looks really good when he's flying with his glider. Another thing I was suprised at was the action-sequences between Goblin and Spidey. I thought Spidey would just web Goblin up and punch 'em a few times and take 'em to jail. But no. Think Mortal Kombat meets Rocky...dramatic. And Kirstin Dunst did a really good job playing Mary Jane, too.

Summary: The best comic book movie to date!
Review: This is the best comic book movie to date. This movie has it all!From action,To adventure,To romance,I didn't want it to end. Toby Macguire's and Kristen Dunst's best proformance yet! They couldn't have chosen a better cast or a better villian. Your in for a rollercoaster of a good time! Between Spider Man and Star Wars it's going to be close. Star Wars seems to be a great movie and this was a great movie! This moie critic gives Spider Man 5*****! for one of the best movies of the year so far.

Summary: A Different Kind of Roller Coaster.
Review: Don't see this movie twice. I did. It was fabulous and fun the first time around, but difficult to watch the second. Why? Because there isn't a whole lot to this movie. What's great about it is the amusement park ride quality of the first viewing. You can overlook its superficiality the first time around and just have fun. This is a movie that revels in the making Spider-Man's powers look and feel as cool as you imagined them as a child (if you were a fan of the comic book or the original animated series), and adds enough romance to widen the appeal beyond fan-boys. Some of the special effects are not terribly "realistic," but that only adds to the fun. There's not much more to say except, "Enjoy!" After you buckle your seatbelts, that is.

Summary: Best comic to movie conversion to date!!
Review: ...Most of the people going to see this are going to be people familiar w/ Spider-Man or comic book fans, like me - AND I'm sure most of them loved it I personally thought this movie was excellent and it was like watching the comic book come to life. Yes, Batman had some great sets, but I don't remember any of the comic book looking anything like that at all.. It was a little TOO grandiose, if you ask me. This movie not only stayed true to the comic book (I'd say about 90%), it had spectacular web-swing sequences that only CGI could deliver. I was a bit skeptical at first of too much CGI, but as I watched it, I realized that it was the only way to truly portray how Spider-Man's movements were in the comic book. Tobey Maguire was a great pick for Spider-Man and even the smaller characters like Robbie Robertson and Betty Brant were there. Anybody that was a fan of the comic book will love this movie, in my opinion. I liked this better than the X-men, even.. graphically, more pleasing and like I said, it was like seeing your favorite comic book come to life. I can't wait for the sequel...

Summary: Warning - Very small spoiler, though it's already obvious.
Review: When I heard that Spider-man was going out in theaters, I didn't really expect a great movie. After all, the current adaptations haven't been the best in the world; Harry Potter, for example, was a huge let-down because of the enormous missing chunks and dullness. I've been a Spider-man fan for as long as I can remember, and I guess I didn't want to see some director screw up my favorite super hero's reputation by making a below-average movie. I'm just that kind of girl who can't stand a disappointment. And so, on opening day, I listened to my friends talk about how they wanted to see the movie so badly, and when they asked if I wanted to go with them, I refused the offer. But one of the movie-goers later told me it was an excellent movie and I should watch with him (he wanted to watch it again. I was surprised) again. And so I did, and my reaction was one of pure amazement. First of all, the casting is excellent. Tobey Maguire made a great Spider-man, much to my surprise. He played Peter Parker like Peter Parker should be. I don't mean the sharp-tongued witty sort of guy most super heroes are, but just a regular person who, of course, can mess up. He was able to make most of us cry, laugh, or just stare in awe at the person who had turned a 2D character into someone real. I thought Kirsten Dunst wasn't the right type of person for the part of M.J., but she played the role pretty well. Her little speech at the end was corny and mushy, and I didn't like that too much. The Green Goblin was the best of the actors and actresses. When you watch him, you can see that he isn't acting out his part well; he IS his part. His face even looks like an evil person! I thought the costume was a bit like something that would scare a 6-year old, but anyhow ... I really hated the people who would go, "Oh! It's Spider-man!" or a stupid line like, "Oh gee! What's that in the sky?" It got really annoying after a while and I was thinking, "Yes it's Spider-man, you idiots." The people in this movie were great nevertheless, whether they made the audience laugh, scream, cry, or fall off (or jump out of) their seats. The plot was a bit off. It's just sort of the regular good against evil sort of theme and everyone knows how that will end. I did liked how the director didn't make the entire movie about the action and the explosives and the kicking and the leaping from bombed buildings and all that extra action stuff some people add to their movies to increase an audience's excitement level. There was actually a back story and mixed in tid bits that gave this movie a harder punch. But augh! The special effects were really bad! The scenes where Spider-man is swinging around the city in his costume were okay, and most of the action sequences were okay, but otherwise (I'm talking about Parker's fight with the Flash guy), they stank. The impression the audience gets in certain parts is, "Wow. That was really fake," and the people watching the movie won't believe the story anymore. >>>>>>>WARNING: SMALL SPOILER The ending battle really blew me away. I was really affected by the harshness of both fighters, and it was of course exciting because, even though the death of Spider-man was not probable. It didn't matter though, because the audience was still worried for their hero. I also enjoyed and understood the ending when Parker turned down MJ. I'm not exactly sure why, but I have an idea. He wanted to keep her out of danger, because if future bad guys (and there will be future bad guys) knew who he loved, they would go after her like the Green Goblin did. It was an act of personal sacrifice, and it sort of celebrated the goodness of Peter Parker, further distinguishing the line between good and evil. I know there's going to be two more sequels, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed! These are only some of the points. I do think though, that this movie definitely deserves at least, if rated one out of ten, an 8 (I think it'd have to be one heck of a movie to get a ten ;-P)

Summary: Great Story, cheesy effects
Review: This movie was awesome! The story followed the comic books very closely. I thought it was well made and had only two small problems with it. First off- Some of the computer generated effects (i.e., Peter jumping from building to building), were very cheesy. It looked pretty fake, and I wasn't impressed by a lot of the computer generated effects. Second- I know they're making two more SpiderMan movies, but c'mon, the ending was terrible! I won't give away any details, but lets say the ending wasn't what I expected. Don't be discouraged by this... the movie, the story was great and this film is surely worth it. Oh, the Green Goblin looked a bit funky, but that's what made him the bad guy, I guess.

Summary: Walking in w/ interest; walked out a fan
Review: I just got back from seeing Spider-Man at the theatre. As the title reads, I walking into the theatre interested in this movie; I never really was a Spiderman fan. At the end, I walked a fan.I found the movie to be well put-together. Awesome scenes with high-flying action. The first scenes where Peter Parker is playing with his new-found abilities were great. One reviewer here said that Willem Dafoe was over-the-top. I disagree; I think that his acting was spot-on. His protrayal of the stereotypical bad guy was just right for the Green Goblin, the mad-genius nemesis for the movie. I am looking forward to this movie's sequel. I hope that they don't change a thing, because they hit the bullseye with this one! It's said that you shouldn't believe the hype until you see for yourself. Spider-Man is an excellant expection; go see this movie now, without delay!!
