Summary: Spiderman is one of this years great movies
Review: The new Spider-Man movie brings you into the world, of a block-buster super hero. Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) is the brainy outcast. Peter lives with his uncle and aunt in an old, closely quartered home. The home is in a neighborhood of tightly spaced homes. M.J home is next door, with her room being directly across from Peter's room.

The uncle trys to be a father figure, but Peter rejects his efforts. Peter lose of his parents encourages him to be 100 percent self-reliant. However, its not until the Uncles death, before Peter considers becoming a defender of Justice and not just a misfit freak. Super self reliance is the stuff superhero are made of; and also the stuff ruthless business tycos are made of. Peter needs the self-reliance to work in isolation. Likewise, Dillion has amass a fortune and revolutionary science through the same self-reliance. Spidey becomes vulnerable to public criticism because of a lacking public relationship; but maintains his ability to act and move. Spidey is not evil. Dillion is evil. Dillion attacks Spidey character by fabricating a perception, Spidey is a villian.

The Green Goblin is evil. Dillion is a brilliant scientist. Using a chemical designed to increase strength, intelligence, and speed in army personel; Dillion receives funding to build the chemical. However, it is discovered that the chemical causes severe insantity and agression. Military funds for the project are pulled and Dillion self administers the chemical on himself. Dillion injects himself with the chemical, becomes the green globin, and takes revenge the military funders and the board of directors, who want him to step down. The scene play moves the audience back and forth from thinking Dillion is being torment, to thinking Dillion is plain evil. Dillion silliness demonstrates no effort toward goodness. Dillion is just plain evil.

Peter is very smart, but an outcast. Peter works for the school newspaper and his friends consider him cool and daring. The relationship between M.J and Peter is ackward. M.J is an covenanted object not a person. Using a spider exhibition, Peter socializes with M.J, who is somewhat interested in him. There is no real chemistry between the characters. Peter is more like her big brother. A radioactive spider bites Peter giving him genetically enhanced capabilities: hair follicles strong enough to climb a wall, the spidey sense giving precognitive perception, and phenomenal - cannon fist strength. Peter definance of his outcast status brings him into a confront with M.J boyfriend. Peter smashes M.J's boyfriend with a cannon fist and really scares everyone. Peter moves from being the outcast, too the bully. Peter's a freak and not a hero. This may, in part, be the motive to create a superhero costume. Behind the costume, Peter remains anonymous and free, to express, his new physical abilities. The slate is clean.

M.J comes from an abusive home life. Not being able to pay her rent, M.J moves in with Peter. They maintain a friend relationship; however, M.J starts to like Peter. But its spiderman, M.J falls passionately in love with. With great power comes great responsibility and spiderman seems to be reckless with both concepts. Spiderman is protecting M.J, but inexperienced and unwillingness to share his dual identity with her, confuse matters. How is Peter going to reckon the deception? He does not have to because a long term relationship with M.J is out of the question. Ironic that Harry and Peter share similar views of love about M.J.

In the battle between the Green Goblin and Spidey, M.J gets a partial glance, at who Spidey is. M.J never reveals the spidey's true identity, and probably out of respect. Or was it out of fear? M.J knew Peter had sampled her feelings towards him through Spidey. But like the cold hearted Osbournes, Peter rejected her. For a moment, Spidey heroics could have been consider love. After all, Spidey saved the bus load of kids and M.J. However, in the last scene, the desparation is heart renching, as M.J finds no love. M.J never found love at her home and no love from Peter.

There is a good drama and tension between the Green Goblin and Spiderman. The Green Goblin air sled comes with missiles and provides incredible maneuverability. The Goblin has a number of deadly weapons: exploding green pumpkins, rapid fire spinning blades, and blades on his sled. The Goblin wants spidey to join him. Using every dirty trick, including injurying his aunt May. Dillion offerings are evil blood money, blackmail, and cruelity to control Spidey. All the time using the know that Peter is Spiderman.

Harry is a very silent part of the movie. Harry's character is controllable and impressionable. Without thinking, Harry distances his relationship with M.J, his girlfriend, esteeming her her of little value. M.J pain is evident, as she is protrayed as a prostitute. Dillion tells Harry, to be quick with M.J and then get rid of her. Harry actuallt sees the class distinction and agrees with Dillion.

Peter Parker fantasy to become a superhero finalizes, with the death of the Green Goblin. In an all out fight scene, Spidey uses cunning and intelligence, to kill the Goblin. Goblin tells Peter to take care of Harry. Of course, Harry will pick up where the Goblin failed. Peter shows compassion towards Harry in attending and offerings support at the funeral. Harry thinks of Peter as his family. After all, Harry is Peter's best friend and Harry doesn't know he's spiderman. If Harry's like M.J their friendship won't mean a thing in the sequel.

Summary: Does not live up to the hype...
Review: Spider-man in no way lives up to the reviews and acclaim from fans of the movie. Yeah sure, there are visual effects that left some people ... in awe, but they left me saying "how cheesy..." The special effects are no greater than any other new movie, and in fact, without these effects, there really is little plot left to this movie. And when you think about the plot, you realize that there is no substance, no soul to this "blockbuster". It is merely Hollywood's newest excuse to capitalize on a franchise. That is all Spider-man is- an attemp to gain truckloads of money by making 4 or 5 sequels. And I dread the day the Spider-man II comes out, because I know that it will only lead to Spider-man 3,4,5,and 6. Lets face it- sequels are never as good as the original, and in this case, the original ....

Summary: Good "Comic" Flick
Review: As a stand alone movie, the movie is a good action movie with elements of romance and class struggle tossed in, but not to the point the movie becomes "depressing" or utterly dramatic to the point you forget its an action movie. Like some of the reviewers before me, I realized when I bought my ticket what kind of movie I was in for, and actually it turned out better than the Batman, Superman and Spawn movies combined.

For one thing its Spiderman, and so it goes and looks on screen as close to any comic book adaptation should get to looking like...well a comic. The action is similar to the old comic book and cartoons and the characters don't get utterly ridiculous like they did in all the batman sequels. If you like action movies or dig comics than this movie is a blast.

Summary: A spectacular and flawless movie
Review: Spider-Man, which grossed nearly 600 million worldwide, is a fantastic roller coaster ride. The directing and fight scenes are amazing, the villains and story are gripping, and the whole thing is a classic. It is probably the year's biggest hit and it's finally coming out on DVD! Now, you can own 2002's greatest hit. A sequel for this box-office-blockuster has been set for 2004 and just in case you missed the first, now you have a chance to not only see but own a sensational, entertaining, and fantastic hit! Tobey Maguire does a fine job as Peter Parker, the dorky high-school kid who gets bitten by a genetically enhanced spider during a science expiremement. He is amazed to discover that the bites gives him spider abilities, such as web-slinging, climbing, and having a spider-sense which warns you of danger.. However, after a deadly experiment makes Peter's best friend Harry's (James Franco) father into a sick villain called the Green Goblin, Spider-Man is forced to take on his enemy. Also featured is Kirsten Dunst, who is Peter's next door neighbor Mary Jane, the only girl that he has ever loved. The movie features many great action sequences with some great special effects and a good cast featuring Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborn, the man who turns into the sadistic Green Goblin. The DVD is jam packed with features such as commentary by director Sam Raimi, actress Kirsten Dunst, producer Laura Ziskin, co-producer Grant Curtis and special effects designer John Dykstra. It also has two music videos: Hero by Chad Kroeger of Nickelback featuring Josey Scott of Saliva and What We're All About by Sum 41. It has a Making of Documentary and a historical documentary called Spider Man: The Mythology of the 21st Century. It also features gags and outtakes, costume and makeup tests, and an E! Special on Spider-Mania. Get this movie on DVD because of the special features and please buy the full-screen version. I don't understand why people like widescreen. I don't like when 1/4 of the top and bottom of my screen is cut off so they can only techinally watch "half" of the movie.

Time: 124 minutes (something like that)
Rated PG-13 for some fight sequences
