Summary: Nearly better than the first
Review: I can't describe Tim Burton's films. As with the first Batman flick and BeetleJuice, Batman Returns has elements that are just very cool. The movie is dark, gritty, and in some ways better than the first Batman film. I like how the villains were taken to extremes. I always thought the Penguin was a stupid character since the only reason they called him that was because he had a large nose. The character is improved upon and brought to screaming life by the tremendously talented Danny DeVito. Michelle Pfeiffer is very cool as Catwoman and Selina Kyle. Christopher Walken is very good as Max Shreck even though his roles all seem the same. His character here is similar to the Bond villain he played in "A View to a Kill." And finally Michael Keaton is phenominal as Batman and Bruce Wayne. He has a knack for making Wayne seem normal despite what he has been put through. Buy this film!

Summary: Tim Burton's more personal take on the Dark Knight
Review: Deep Satire, haunting personal ethos, desperate souls...The Dark Knight returns, or arrives for the first time rather?... Michael Keaton, of whom the silent majority believe to be the most convincing and well acted Batman/Bruce Wayne, delivers a stoic performance that seems to become more gratifying a second or third stroll through Gotham City. Although he battles 2 arch enemies in this film, there is really a third, Max Schreck. Played to steely perfection by Christopher Walken, as quoted referring to Selena Kyle, "Bottom line. If she tries to blackmail me, I'll drop her out of a higher window." The Catwoman represents female repression and complete anger towards weak female characterization in film or real life. Both the Catwoman and Batman seem anchored to fear in a struggle to reconcile there desire to allow both sides of their personalities to exist in harmony. And thus a connection is made on both fronts...However, where Bruce Wayne is held at bay by Alfred the loyal butler and friend, Ms. Kyle has no one and her sanity slowly drifts out to sea. The Penguin, discarded at birth for being born "a little different," is used in effect to create sympathy within Bruce Wayne, whom has lived through parental tragedy as well. Both Penguin and Catwoman have very similar dark emotions as Batman. Which in the end is fabulous, because Batman makes no direct attempt to kill either character. He knows himself, and thusly knows that their own misgivings will create their own deaths...Although Catwoman has a few to spare I'm sure...Some people didn't like Batman Returns because it spawned sequels that needed more than one enemy...It must be said that in Batman Returns, Bruce Wayne's greatest fear was learning to deal with himself, making the ultimate sacrifice for his own humanity. A triumph in character development, satire of human relationships, and of freeing desperate souls. ..Not to mention the last good Batman movie, and one of Burton's best and most personal works:: ranks up their with his "Ed Wood(1994)" & Edward SciccorHands(1990)"Rating: 4 out of 5 Grade: B+ 90%

Summary: I Think The Word Is Opera
Review: This film is the most hauntingly engaging film of the series. Michelle Pfeiffer hold her own to Jack Nicholson as the Catwoman, arguably the best part of the movie. Danny DeVito does excellent with (this version of) The Penguin. Micheal Keaton is a bit better this round as the title character. Whoever it was that designed this film deserves thier props. Gotham is belivable, yet sitll dark enough for there to be a Batman. Danny Elfman is _the_ choreographer. TIm Burton does excellent this turn. BAD: Danny DeVito's Penguin (just like Jim Carrey's Riddler, Tommy Le Jones' TwoFace, and Arnold Schwarzenegger's Mr. Freeze) is not characteristic of the comic's version. Max Schreck is unneeded in my opinion, and the whole black spit thing really got on my nerves. (and the Penguin was defeated way to easily) Yet still, Tim Burton's Bat-villians have an essense that make you feel for them. I rewatch Batman Returns now, and think: That poor woman's going to be such a big part of Gotham's history, and she doesn't know it. I didn't get that feeling with Freeze, TwoFace, Bane, Ivy, of the Riddler. I felt sorry for Catwoman. I felt sorry (not long, though) for the Joker and the Penguin. That's what Batman should be.

Summary: THE BEST BATMAN MOVIE!
Review: This is my favorite Batman movie, The Penguin isn't as interesting and entertaining as The Joker but every scene in which Catwoman and Batman are together is great, especially the mistletoe lines. This movie is darker and more serious than the first Batman movie, I'm waiting for the guys at WB to release some kind of Special Edition, because I bought the first Batman movie and it's extra-free nothing, not even the trailers, only dated biographical pages for you to read about the main people involved in the movie. I sure hope for Burton to come back with Michael Keaton and do one more Batman, probably with Michael Keaton kind of realizing that he's getting old for the job but will have to wear the black cape one more time against his ultimate foe! Ha, ha, ha, I know that that's not gonna happen, but hey one can always dream.

Summary: Goodbye to a Saga
Review: As much as I like this film, while wathching it I can't help but feel increasingly aggravated because of the embarassing sequels which followed. They turned the dark streets of GOTHam City into Vegas, and turned Batman into a guy who wore a heavy suit complete with nipples. Here is what Batman should be remembered as, a chracter who is the hero yet also the victim, a dark and tragic figure thrust into a life of vengence because of his parent's death. This is Tim Burton, THIS IS BATMAN. It's really a 3 1/2 though, but I just gave it a 4 anyway.

Summary: Who said sequels suck?
Review: Yes Batman Returns, like the first one is truly amazing! Tim Burton brought a more scarier back round in this one which makes it more funner. Pheifer is Catwoman, just like Nicholson, she was truly amazing. Catwoman and Joker are the two best villians in all of the Batman series. Danny Devito is Penguin and what better guy to pick. Overall excellent movie reason why this did not get a perfect rating just like the first one was simply because if you notice when Batman takes off the mask you can see just before that he has no makeup on his eyelids, but sure enough before that scence he did have the black make-up on. Okay, Okay that's not a good enough reason I did not give this a perfect because nothing is as good as the original.

Review: I have been a Batman fan since childhood and at first could not imagine Michael Keaton as Batman. But his two movies were great. I loved Batman returns because of the duo of villains. Both Pfeiffer and De Vito, the only possible penguin, made the movie superb.

Summary: Tim Burton Gets His Revenge
Review: Let me explain.This is most likely pure,undiluted conjecture on my part,but I get the feeling that some of the dodgier elements of the first "Batman" film were due to studio interference:the tentative nature of the Joker,the weak leading lady(nothing against Kim Basinger at all,she just doesn't belong in a Burton film)and the contrived romance between Vicky Vale and Bruce Wayne.Bruce is a character who would be drawn to more than looks,and unfortunately that's all Vale's character offers.And let's just mention Robert Wuhl.All this seemed to be the studios way of taking Burton's original vision,which was probably much darker and more caustic,and making it more palatable to a summer audience.And if my estimation of Burton as an artist is accurate,he probably bristles fiercely at such interference.And so we have,"Batman Returns",which retains the florid atmosphere of the first one,all grand,decaying Gothic austerity offset with fun-house thrills,and completely buries all sense of compromise(having a film become one of the biggest money-makers of all time gives you that privelege).Opening with a smashingly designed and executed sequence,we see the origins of the Penguin,(Danny DeVito)from his birth to wealthy parents,who leave him floating in the sewer because of his grotesque deformaties.The scene is as sad and haunting as any in Burton's work.Next we meet Max Shreck,played to absolute perfection by Christopher Walken,a shady business Tycoon,who has Gotham City wrapped around his evil little finger.His assistant,Selina Kyle,(Michelle Pfieffer)who when we first meet her is a mousy wallflower,is in on his shady dealings,involving a scheme to monopolize Gotham's power supply.He finds out she's on to him,and pushes her out a window,ostensibly killing her.But she survives,having been "rescued" by a horde of stray cats.But there's something decidedly different about her as she goes home and transforms her self into the Catwoman.Pfieffer is a righteous,fired-up marvel as the sexy,lethal Catwoman,and she seems to have a ball,finding the wounded pride and swaggering confidence of the character.It's a grand,unforgettable performance.Pfieffer certainly makes a much more convincing love interest for Bruce Wayne(Micheal Keaton,once again).She meets him as Salina,but he immedeately notices her dark side.Thier conversation at his manor is pure gold.When the talk turns to former girlfriends,he mentions Vicky Vale.Selina:"Vicky? Ice-Skater or stewardess?"Perfect.As far as the Penquin,well he's one of the most delightfully odeous creations in the history of cinema,with pale,clammy skin,rotten teeth,malformed body,and Danny DeVito ripping into the character with abrasive vigor.He adopts a plan to win over the Gotham citizens,to gain thier trust,so he can get revenge for what his parents did to him.I won't give it away,but's brilliantly dark and twisted."Batman Returns" is an awesome accomplishment,and everything the first one could have been.I recommend the first one anyway,if only to let it's flaws make you appreciate much more the perfection of this one.

Summary: The best Batman movie
Review: this movie rules. I remember i saw this when i was a kid, but it still kicks. The penguin is pretty sweet. So is catwoman. After a deformed, abused child (penguin) is given away at birth, he rises to power in Gotham city. Since he hates batman, he tries to frame him, but after batman thwarts his plan, he loses. Lots of action, and suspense. Micheal gives a better performance, than is in Batman1. So get this if you liked that one, but this one has way more action.

Summary: You better love this movie, cause that's all you're getting
Review: This is the best batman movie to date. This movie is definalty worth getting on DVD. First off they remastered the soundtrack, so it sounds amazing. This is the last true Burton flavor. The dvd preserves the blacks in this movie, and gives you the original theatrical feel. Once again this dvd fell face first with the extras. It did not have the original trailers, or any trailers for that matter. All the extras like, cast and making was actually were just text. There was no extra video, besides the movie. Dvd's need to get the format into gear. The consumer should not have to pay twice the amount of VHS and get the same features. You want to push DVD's, drop the price and give at least the trailers, if not more. Maybe a game. But definalty not Batman Beyond, that was a horrible game.
