Summary: A cool webslinger....
Review: Spiderman is the perfect summer movie. It features a well known hero, played by a talented, well known actor and has a very good supporting cast. Toby Maguire is excellent as the smart but nerdy Peter Parker and doubles perfectly as the beefed up, super cool Spiderman. Toby Maguire has shown us what a good actor he is in films like "Wonder Boys" and "Cider House Rules" so it is great to see him in an action film where he can let loose and just have fun. Kirstin Dunst is good as Peter's sexy but elusive love interest and Willem Dafoe is delightfully demented and evil as the Green Goblin. The action sequences are exactly what you'd expect and my only problem was some slow pacing at certain points in the movie. With the origin of Spidey out of the way and introducing Peter Parker's character, the next movie should be able to move completely forward into non-stop action. Regardless, this is well worth the wait. If you a superhero film, action buff, or just love lots of colorful movie making, go see "Spiderman". I recommend it highly.

Summary: SPIDEY FAN DISAPPOINTED AT THE BOX OFFICE
Review: When I first heard that my favorite animated superhero was coming to life, I could hardly wait for the release date. I looked forward to seeing Tobey Maguire (one of Hollywood's greatest at the moment) portray the web-slinging / wall-climbing friendly neighborhood Spider-man. Although his performance as Peter Parker by day, Superhero at night is right up there with any he has done, I was disappointed in the movie as a whole! The story line, even though true to the comic book and animated series, was too predictable and put me to sleep. I wish there would've been more twists in the plot or maybe an attempt for movie producers to create their own. Although my disappointment will not deter me from seeing the obvious sequel, I do hope that more effort is put into entertaining true fans.

Summary: My Spider Sense Is Tingling!!! Great Movie..with 2 problems
Review: Wonderful-Outstanding-Shocking Movie!!! I am still blown away with how great this movie was with it's action, and drama. This movie was exactly what I expected from Marvel, and I am not dissapointed whatsoever.

The Similarities from the Comic to Movie transition were as follows:
1. The story line of how he decided to become a super hero.
2. His love for M.J.
3. His problems he faces for day-to-day living.

The differences from the Comic to Movie transition were as follows:
1. His web throwing is not in any way similar. In the Comic Book he had capsules he connected to his arm, and in the movie, the webbing came from inside.
2. M.J.'s and his relationship growing up. She didn't live next to him growing up in the comic book. Even though this makes for an interesting story in Dramatic Romance.
3. Spider Man was an actual photographer and worked for a company instead of being a freelance photographer in the movie.

Even though there are few things that were portayed differently in this movie, Sam Raimi(director) did an outstanding job. I bow down to his excellence. The only other problem I had going into and leaving the theatre, was the fact that the Animation(Graphics) were a bit dissapointing. They can be easily overlooked for the fact that this movie is #1 and still rising.

Summary: Comic book, but cute
Review: I have to give them credit, Spider-Man's backstory is true to the comic books. But the movie also feels like a comic book come to life, and little more. The action is fantastic, and the CGI effects are impressive (the TV ads don't do them justice). But most of the acting is flat and two-diminsional, so much so that I got the impression that's what they were after. Superman The Movie did a much better job of taking a comic book character and adding depth; Spider-Man is more on a par with the recent X-Men outing. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing. I only wish that if they weren't going to put anymore heart into the development of the characters, they would have focused less on them, i.e., less Peter Parker and more Spider-Man. Perhaps now that the characters are established, the rest of the movies (both Spider-Man II and Spider-Man III are in the works) will be more action and less fluff (or more heart).

Summary: XMEN WAS BETTER
Review: This was an excellent adaptation of one the best super heros from the comics. I thought that Tobey McGuire was a great choice. He played the nerd turned hero with style (however a little stiff as the nerd). Kirsten Dunst was good-she had a better turning in Dracula. However Willam DeFoe was superb. He played the super rich scientist, turned villian/split personality with a style matched only by Jack Nicholson in Batman. The minor players such as J. Jonah Jamison, Aunt Mae and DeFoe's son were okay.
The story was fairly true to the original story. The only difference is that this Spiderman can shoot webs from his skin (wrist) and not man made cartridges. I like the idea of shooting webs from his skin more fessible than the latter way.
The only problem I had with the whole thing is that, it relied on computer generated effects (for Spidey) too much. Most of his acrobatics were too unnatural for human movement. The reality of the story is to believe that a human has spider like strength, stamina and heightened senses.
But I do tell people this movie is worth the overprice of tickets. I will look forward to the next installment.

Summary: I Wish That I Didn't...
Review: worry about the quality of Sam Raimi's Spider-Man. It is definatly one of this years best. Spider-Man is of course about the super-hero made famous in the comic book series, The Amazing Spider-Man. For those of you unfamilar with series (AND SHAME ON YOU IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHO SPIDER-MAN IS!!), Peter Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider and became the Spider Man, who has the poers of the spider. He can swing with a spider web, has a spider sense where he can sense danger, and can stick to walls. He also has amazing strength. Tobey Maguire plays Peter Parker\Spider-Man. In this movie, which is the first of a trilogy, has Spider-Man battling the Green Goblin played by Willem Dafoe. Also in the movie is Kirsten Dunst who plays Mary Jane, Spidey's love intrest, Bruce Campbell (of Evil Dead fame), and Macho Man Randy Savage. Dunst deserves a Academy Award nomination for her performance in Spider-Man. But it is not just the performances in the movie that makes it.

A great challenge to making Spider-Man is recreating the action and suspense from the comics. The comics had Spidey slinging from building to building, jumping from roof to roof, and more. The visual effects in this film make it truly Spider-Man The Movie. The action is recreated by somesort of way that is beyond me. I am not one who does not know about Special FXs. One good thing about the film is the screenplay. No B-Movie lines that weasel their ways into films ("And on the seventh day, man will rest... in peace!..."=Worst Line Ever From Mortal Kombat 2). Costume design was very important to the film. From Spider-Man's costume to the Green Goblin's suit to event the dresses that Mary Jane wears, nothing was left untouched. Makeup was also perfectly done to recreate the way that the characters looked in the comic book.

In short, Spider-Man is one of the best films of the year and was along with Resident Evil as one of the best films of the year. It will not disappoint fans of the comic book at all. It has great performances by all, Special FXs that perfectly capture the comic book, and a well done screenplay. After you have watched the movie (and don't forget to watch it more than once!), go play the game and get the toys to recreate the action from the film. But, the thing that everyone should do is read the comic books once again. I am really looking forward to the sequels, the second one is going to come out 2003 or 2004, which will most likely have Dr. Octopus or Venom. This will also hopefully not go the way of the Batman or Superman movies that [stunk] after the second one. This is a film for comic book lovers and non-comic book lovers alike, so don't take the reviews to heart. See it yourself. I didn't regret it.

Summary: Spiderman......a great movie!
Review: I usually avoid hyped-up movies until it's 3rd week of release so I don't have to listen to the gossip around me from the local high school. I need to be "into" the movie. Spiderman get's you into it, fast. The story line was excellent. The chemistry between tobey and kirstin was adequate. The fact that they stuck pretty close to the comic book story line was well appreciated. The movie is fun from start to finish, except the very end bothered me a little. (Have to wait for the sequel). Overall, an excellent movie! I will see it again, at least one more time in the theater. Go see it! You will love it!

Summary: *If you need a nap, go see Spider-man*
Review: My sweety and I were so disappointed in this flop of a flick. He's a real Spidey fanatic and I had to wake him up at several points throughout the film. The only reason I managed to stay conscious was because I knew nothing about the origin of Spider-man and was driven on by curiosity. But we both found the film totally predictable and cheezy. The romance aspect of the movie was played out much to much and even the promise of exciting special effects did not follow through. The only good thing about this movie was the ever erasable Toby McGuire, who was perfect as Peter Parker. I am a big Kirsten Dunst fan, and I must say that her acting in this movie was nausiating. To lay it on the line, save yourself the money and rent it next year.

Summary: An Absolute Delight
Review: What a charming movie. Memories of childhood super-hero awe were revived! I thought this movie had a great balance of action, romance, character-development, and effective dialogue/plot. There was a wonderful unfolding of innocence blossoming into awareness without the mood ever becoming corny.

Summary: Improving on the Original - Spider-Man delivers the goods
Review: It's hard to get comic book characters adapted to movies. The first two Superman movies and the first Batman movie were done right. The Spider-Man movie is right up there with them.

The changes in the Spider-Man legend actually improve on the original. Long time Spidey fans will not be disappointed and there are scenes in the movie that bring famous panels from the comic books to life. The origin tale is especially improved.

And finally proper credit is given to Steve Ditko as Spider-Man's co-creator.

So, when the DVD comes out, lets hope they do that right too. Looking forward to adding it to my collection.
