Summary: An extraordinary movie on a splendid DVD edition.
Review: Sam Raimi was the best choice for director for Spider-Man. His parents had a Spider-Man mural painted on his wall for him in his childhood, and he had the perfect vision for how Spider-Man should be. Better actors could not have been picked to play these roles; Tobey Maguire made the role of Peter Parker his. Kirsten Dunst was an excellent Mary Jane, and Cliff Robertson and Rosemary Harris were the best as Uncle Ben and Aunt May. J. K. Simmons stole the show as Jameson, who played the part magnificently; he literally WAS Jonah. Sam's brother Ted Raimi (from Xena) was a nice surprise appearing in the Daily Bugle office. Willem Dafoe's Norman/Goblin over-the-top performance was superb, but the armored costume took some getting used to. If you look quickly, you'll see Stan (The Man) Lee making a little heroic appearance! Right from the start, the characters are believable, and the characters are fleshed out wonderfully from the comic. A great deal of time was invested in getting a costume for Spidey that looks awesome; this endeavor was obviously taken very seriously and the designers did a great job.The CGI Spider-Man was fantastic! The talents involved with the CGI captured Spider-Man's movements so flawlessly, I almost believed at some points that it was actually a person performing Spidey's complex acrobatic abilities and fighting style, but would have liked to see a bit more jumping; Spidey can jump pretty high and far, but will hopefully be more prominent when the character is older (in the sequels!) I'll have to get used to the organic webs; which was my least favorite aspect of the film. The creators decided it was easier than having to explain how he was able to pay for the chemicals for the webbing. This doesn't allow us to see Pete as a scientist, which I love, but maybe they will bring some of that out (and some higher jumping) for the sequel! More of the Bugle characters hopefully will make an extended appearance in the sequels, too. The DVD is literally packed with special features from on-screen pop-ups that display information and tidbits pertaining to what was said, or shown in a particular scene, and a "spider sense" that takes you from the main movie to a mini-movie when you press the proper remote button. The menu selection is a visual treat and the DVD-ROM extras are a nice bonus, from Marvel dot comics to an Activision Spider-Man PC game demo. I would have liked to see some deleted scenes, but disc 2 provides some outtakes and gags which are a delight to see. It finally took a true, talented Spider-Man fan to turn out the best Spidey production I've ever seen. Sam Raimi's love for Spider-Man and the hard work of all the talented people in this film gave those of us who love Spidey an unforgettable movie experience, and just as much work was put into this DVD edition that is a pleasure to own.

Review: Ok well where do I start? Hmm. Okay well they went all out for this DVD. I love how they have the 2-disc set and on disc 2 they have the Green Goblin and I was thrilled as could be that they put my favoite super villian on a DVD disc. The gag outakes were funny and the picture on the movie was beautieful. I like how they added all the commercials and they even showed the HBO makeing of Spider-Man and the E! special. I recommend,no,I highly recommend this DVD. If you want the full package get the DVD not the tape. All around it is a good movie and good extras.

Review: This is a wonderful movie. One of it's finest qualites is the fact that it can be enjoyed by everyone in the family, regardless of their ages. It's an instant classic and a must have.

Summary: I love Spiderman! It's best comic book movie ever made!
Review: I love Spiderman! It's the Best comic book movie ever made! Tobey Maguire is Peter Parker/Spiderman. Kristen Dunset is Mary Jane. William Defoe is the Green Goblin/Norman Osbourne. The Plot revolves around these characters and how they came to be! This is a very well written story with great dialogue and well written script. Peter Parker(Tobey Maguire) and Mary Jane (Kristen Dunst) are fantastic together! They have a wonderful chemistry in the film. This movie is a wonderful translation from the comic book by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko to the silver screen! Buy it! Highly Recommended!

Summary: "You're not Superman you know"
Review: Well, actually, he's better than Superman. I should say the movie is. Superman was probably the best comic book adaption (although with some minor flaws) until X Men and Spiderman came along (I have to also give credit to Batman Returns and Blade--both were very good adaptions). Spiderman manages to recapture all the wonder I remember reading the comic when I was a kid. Screenwriter David Koepp (who worked on Jurassic Park among many another films) does a marvelous job of fleshing out Stan Lee's and Steve Ditko's characters. What is most impressive is how the mythology is incorporated into an action story. Most film directors would have spend half the time dealing with Peter Parker's transformation or origin. Instead, we get it all reduced to the first 20 minutes and Spidey actually gets introduced within the first hour. We also see many of Spidey's exploits through a montage. The direction by comic devotee Sam Raimi fits in perfectly with the character and story--which is no surprise given Raimi's comic book visual style (see Darkman, Army of Darkness or any of the other Evil Dead movies for a demonstration of his "panel" visual style). The direction is also informed with a love of comics which radiates throughout the picture creating much of the power of the film. Credit also goes to Raimi for not trying to "mainstream" Spidey and make him respectable. He doesn't pander to highbrow critics by making this into something more than a spectacular adventure film. Although it lacks the impressive backstory of X-Men (the motivation for Magneto is established very clearly in the film version and it has resonance beyond comics), Raimi more than makes up for it with a stunning series of visual set pieces. The visual effects with the CGI Spidey are pretty impressive. Their not 100% convincing as of yet but are pretty darn close. You do believe (for the most part) that a man can climb a wall. John Dykstra's (Star Wars, Star Trek: TMP) visuals are fluid and well integrated into the action. There are some sequences where it's difficult to distinguish CGI from the real actors. An example is the scene where Parker tracks down Uncle Ben's killer in as the "Human Spider". Most of the sequence is CGI with Tobey Maguire's eyes the only real thing in the shot. Willem Dafoe crackles and cackles as Norman Osborn/The Green Goblin. I was afraid that he might overpower Maguire (a la Jack Nickolson's Joker from Batman). He doesn't. He plays the dual role with enough conviction and with a touch of madness where we can almost feel sympathetic for Osborn. The rest of the cast including Kristin Dunst as MJ are credible and seamlessly weave themselves into the fabric of the story. I actually would give Spiderman 4 1/2 stars as there were some areas of improvement in the visuals (the CGI Spidey). I also felt that the characters were well developed (J. K. Simmons as J.Jonah Jamieson is a hoot--exactly as I would have imagined him). I felt that killing Gobie was premature (although it does set up Harry Osborn's hate of Spidey and the potential for him to don his father's outfit in a sequel)but the sequence works. The extras are just icing on the cake. The screentests for Maguire (a great action sequence similar to the one where MJ is attacked by goons in the film)and Simmons reading Jameison's lines)are great. The gag reel/outtakes are a chuckle (particularly Willem Dafoe's scenes where he proves how over the top he could have been as Gobie). I would have loved to see more of the CGI screen tests (including earlier tests) but the single example included here is impressive. It's easy to see why the film got the greenlight given all of this. I don't think James Cameron (who had wanted to direct Spidey) could have done this film any better. In fact, I personally feel based on Darkman that Raimi was the only director really up to the task of directing Spiderman. Hopefully he can keep the quality high for the second film (Parker was fired by Dr. Morgan who later turns into a villan in Spiderman so that could be the set up for # 2). I have the feeling that Columbia/Tristar will be releasing a Ultimate Spiderman boxed set with more material later down the line but, unless you're a completist, this all the Spidey that you'll need. Definitely one of the top 10 films of the year.

Summary: Spiderman DVD Collector's gift set isn't that good!
Review: I love the movie! It is literally a comic book page that has come to life. But the Collector's edition is a farce. For the so called "collectible" items you receive it is way over priced. First you receive a cheesy reprint of the first Spiderman story. Big deal! You can get that at almost any comic shop. Second, a John Romita and Romita Jr. print. It's really cool! It's the first Spiderman cover redrawn by these two legends. The problem......it's not even autographed individually. John Romita Jr's. autograph is printed on it. Come on guys.... you could have the thing signed. Third, you receive a 35mm cell. Fine. It's not numbered. Gee.....how collectible. Fourth, It has an additional DVD with Stan Lee and Kevin Smith. Ok...fine. Bottom line is....I have a cool movie and a nice box to keep some comic books in.

Review: I would say that Spider-man was a good film and definetly worth watching but after watching it for a second time I noticed how bad a lot of the graphics really are. It really lacked some realism but it was still worth watching.
