Summary: The only superhero that can be anybody
Review: The one great thing about Spider-Man is that he is the only superhero that can be real. And now the film does justice to hardcore comic fans, non-comic fans, and people that complain too much about how fake superheroes are. Sam Raimi's adaptation to the Marvel Comics classic is done right for a change. With an update to Visual Effects, two minor changes (webbing coming from himself, and Green Goblin's metal costume), a great nerdy-type actor Tobey Maguire, a scary villian Willem Defoe, and the teenage angst story, you got one great adaptation that's as close to the comics than ever. Others have failed before, such as The Punisher (Dolph Lungren with no skull on chest), Captain America (Unknown actor Matt Salinger as skinny Cap with Red Skull as an Italian guy instead of the original German Nazi villian he was), The ill-fated Fantastic Four movie (which will NEVER be released, yet you can find bootlegs on the web and in small video stores), and the terrible Batman and Robin film which eventually destroyed the Batman film Franchise.
Spider-Man is a great movie that belongs among the ranks of the 'better' superhero movies such as Superman I and II, Batman, Blade, X-Men, and Unbreakable. With the superhero genre now in full force, Spider Man proved that it is safe to say that hopefully most if not all the hero films will stick to the original comic and not be ruined by studio execs with no idea how to make a superhero movie.

Summary: Great movie with a wonderfull DVD
Review: Friendly neighbourhood spiderman is back on the hollywood screen. I had seen one of the old spiderman movies as a kid, this is definately far more better than that.
Toby fits in very nicely in the role of Peter Parkar and our dear spidy.
Movie is full of cooool special effects with Spidy and the Green Goblin.
I was just too eager to get hold of the Spiderman DVD to watch some cool special stuff in the second DVD.
The DVD material was not up to my expectations but I think I was over-expecting. The DVD comes with the HBO & E! special on Spiderman along with interviews with the cast and creator. Check out how 'Spiderman' name came into existence.
You'll also get to see Toby's screen test and many extra stuff.
I think this is definately one of the must buy DVDs of the decade.
Happy Crawling !!!

Summary: DVD at its best
Review: If it wasn't for the extras on this DVD it would be only worth 4 stars. Spiderman is only a good movie but it is not good enough to get five stars. With the edition of the extras this movie becomes exciting. There are hours of extras and if your computer has a DVD rom drive than you will be able to play three levels from the Spiderman video game. This DVD is well worth 50 bucks making it a deal at about 25. If you don't already have the DVD or even have the VHS version, you must buy it or regret it.

Summary: Poor script, good performances...
Review: I am so glad David Koepp isn't invited back for the sequel, hopefully the Smallvile guys will not have any of their ideas projected on-screen, either. Though regarding this film, I found Tobey Maguire very likeable, very true to the original concept of Peter Parker, who was always a regular kid and never the typical, blue-eyed, 6 foot, muscle-choked Superhero. I think Kirsten Dunst is alright, but I don't really like her. Her MJ character never really likes Peter, and only comes around to him after noticing how nice he looks. Willem Dafoe is very creepy-looking, though the writing for him was too goofy and stupid. There are many, many humorous moments, most do not come from Spider-Man's mouth. There's a ridiculous scene where Aunt May relates to Peter how he mistook MJ for an angel. And another where she goes crazy in a hospital exclaiming, "Those horrible yellow eyes!" So this is a funny, funny movie, best suited to laughing at it in the back row. Green Goblin is even goofier, thanks to his lines and costume. Another humorous aspect is how the paper says the wrestling arena requires colorful characters, and then he gets there and everyone is dressed completely in black! They really should have included the beautiful WTC teaser trailer on this DVD, which can be found online. I also like the nod to the comic books in the supplemental materials. Stan Lee's cameo should have been more than a mili-second. The backbone of all of this is fashioned into a very typical story, he evens runs to catch the bus exactly like Forrest Gump and the Goblin asks him to 'join' him, exactly like Darth Vader. Spider-Man should have been a much more original story, elements should have been better. I adore the ending with MJ and Peter, but she mentions his whole name repeatedly and so unnaturally. You do feel for the characters well enough, though. The CGI is sometimes wretched, but towards the end it has a great scene, I just think all the CGI shots should have been like that all the way through the film, but I guess they were saving money. GG having his parts severed and MJ in the rain is a little steep for a PG-13 flick. Tobey's voice is a little too original for it not to be obvious to MJ who Spider-Man is, which defeats the purpose of a costume. It wasn't great, or very good, just good. I hope to see it vastly improved upon for the sequel.

Summary: dont listen to the [reviewers] below
Review: Who are these [people] saying Spider-man was bad? I mean really now who are they, this was one of the most entertaining movies of the decade and these people are complaining about "not enough action" and "slow pace", did you want constant explosions? Did you want them to just ignore the fact that Spider-man has an origin, I mean really. And whats with the people saying the special effects are bad? Do they work for george lucas or something? Where the heck did they see better special effects. Spider-man is a great movie and a great starting off point for a whole slew of movies. And for those who say its too much like superman and batman: All super heroes have to get their powers somehow, of course the first movies will have a basic line to them, they all have to introduce the character and story, what the heck do they expect. So go buy the movie and dont listen to these people who are all [crabby] cause they were expecting ghandi but with spider powers.

Summary: I hate spiders, but I LOVE spiderman
Review: Toby Maquire is perfect in this role. This movie had just the right amount of Superhero Action without being over dramatized or corny. It was sensative and endearing. Spiderman is a movie I could watch over and over!

Summary: The Best of the Super-Hero Flicks
Review: That's the bottom line ... Spider-Man is the best of all the super-hero movies to have come out. One of the key reasons is the writers did not spend way too much time on the hero's origin. This is the downfall of the first movie of any character. They hit the key elements -- bit by a spider, realizes his powers, his inaction results in a dire consequence (no spoiler here), and he goes on to become Spider-Man. Peter Parker's enchantment with Mary Jane Watson is handled well -- the teen-age angst with the beautiful girl and rivals who are bigger, stronger, and richer. All of the plot points come to a head and are resolved through the film. Spider-Man is not my favorite super-hero but this is definitely the best film.

Summary: Oh, I've seen this about a dozen times now.
Review: This movie was a lot of fun, and it functioned as sublime escapism, which is probably why I've seen it as often as I have while realizing that the filmmakers tried to cram too much plot into the film and managed to cut short much of the heart needed to make the film a classic.

It was good enough, but it's not great cinema.

Summary: Web Head
Review: I read all the Spider Man comics growing up. Does the video live up to my imagination? Yes and no. The story follows the original fairly closely but makes a few "unauthorized" physological changes to Parker. No complaints. The production values are high and the effects tastefully, often brilliantly done. So far so good. Do the characters "click"? Goblin, Babe, Uncle, Aunt are all in character and well crafted. Parker? You be the judge. Entertaining, well paced, slick without being sappy. A good time. Seemed to be a hit with my entire extended family, ages 4 to 84.

Summary: ONE-HUNDRED AND FORTY MILLION DOLLARS FOR THIS??
Review: Everyone's favourite webslinger gets the big-screen treatment at last, but disappoints not only comic book afficiondos but fans of director Sam Raimi as well, and in a rare feat for Hollywood, SPIDER-MAN'S shortcomings lie not so much with the script as they do with the film's expensive but decidedly un-special special effects. Indeed, the only less-convincing CGI performance of the past year belongs to Sarah Michelle Gellar in SCOOBY-DOO. X-MEN is a far better film and cost alot less to make. Despite fine performances from Willem DaFoe and Tobey Maguire, this SPIDER-MAN has surprisingly limp wrists.
