Summary: Whats all the hype about?
Review: 3 Stars. Okay, I'm a teenager and heard all the hype about this movie and how it was sooooo great, and how everyone has to see it. So, I bought it on dvd when it came out. This must be a mistake! How could a movie like this make 115 million dollars its first week? Its not a horrible movie, but the only redeeming value in this movie is the special effects, the action, and the bonus features if you're into that kind of thing. The acting is not amazing. This movie is good for a renting, but don't buy it unless you really love it, cause after watching it more than twice, as I had it got boring.

Summary: One of my favourite movies and DVDs of 2002.
Review: I didn't expect to like Spider-Man at all when I saw it in theatres. I am not a big fan of superhero movies and knew nothing about the story or the comics. I prepared to be uninterested. Well, I prepared wrong. This movie was EXCELLENT, and it wasn't just another superhero movie with lots of action scenes. I really cared for the characters here and sympathised with all of them.

I thought the motive for Peter Parker becoming Spider-Man was very well done. I really hate sitting through the scene where Peter finds his uncle shot and realises that it was partly his fault. That must've been brutal. Tobey Maguire and Cliff Robertson are both excellent in that scene. The last scene is also heartbreaking to hear Peter have to say that to Mary Jane (I won't spoil here), it kind of pisses me off at the same time as being very sad.

All of the performances here are great. Tobey Maguire's Spider-Man is a sight to behold. I didn't think Maguire could pull off a superhero, but he is amazing as both the nerdy Peter Parker and as the wall-crawling hero. I also loved Willem Dafoe. He is a great actor, and chooses very diverse and complex roles. Here he has to be scizophrenic, evil, leader of a successful business and a father. He mixes all these things up in some scenes and the outcome is one great performance. Kirsten Dunst is also stunning and makes her character more three-dimensional than I bet any other actress could. She was perfectly cast and I love her hair like that.

There were some outstanding action sequences in Spider-Man, including the final battle between the Goblin and Spider-Man, which showcases some brilliant sound effects. The scenes at the parade and also on the bridge were intense, scary and unpredictable, and especially the one at the parade had me practically falling off my seat in tension.

If there were things I didn't like about the film they would just be stupid little things. I don't like how the Goblin says "Itsy bitsy Spider came up the water spout. Down came the Goblin and washed the Spider out!" It is a lame, cheesy and unneeded line. The end really gets on my nerves but brings across the motto of the movie in a brilliant and heartbreaking fashion - so I wouldn't call it a flaw.

Overall - a brilliant movie. If you don't like superhero flicks that's OK, because I don't and I LOVED LOVED LOVED this movie. I now own the DVD and watch it often. This is more than a superhero movie, much much more, and I can't wait to see the sequel.

--- DVD REVIEW ---

I own this DVD as I mentioned up there and I really love it. The special features are a sight to behold, there are many that really inform you on the movie. Unlike most films, the DVD has a lot of information and featurettes on both discs, whereas with most movies there's usually two discs, one with the film and one with the features. But this movie is packed with lots of features to enjoy. I love watching gags and there is a short gag reel. There is a few documentaries on the casting choices in the movie. It was an excellently put together package that is most definitely worth your money!

Summary: Totally awesome, even with many problems
Review: Willem Dafoe, oh, he was perfectly cast as the Green Goblin. He gets the job done, better than any comic book movie villian ever has. Tobey Maguire as Spidey? Well, I've see far studlier action heroes but he is pretty good. Ladies, I'm sure you'll agree with me when I say he sure looked buff once that little arachnid sunk it's teeth in! I like Tobey as Peter Parker a lot, but they could have had two people play the role (it's been done before and would have worked here): one as Peter Parker, and another actor as Spiderman. He's too old for it, but fifteen years ago Arnold would have been ideal.

The special effects were absolutely thrilling. Everything looked great with the vital exception of Spiderman himself. In fact, my biggest problem with the movie is that Spidey looks like a cartoon character swinging around. They should have used a real person.

The DVD looks and sounds totally acceptable. I have no use for the second disc, as I see no point in watching what are essentially advertisements for a movie that I already own. Yes, there seems to be lots of stuff on the second disc, but what's the point?

Recommended for both girls and boys under 16.

Summary: Top 5 Things I Liked About the DVD...
Review: Here we go... (5) DANNY ELFMAN's dark, jittery musical score. Think of the roiling, angry energy of Elfman's music for the first 'Batman' movie [if you've forgotten, you can also hear it at the beginning and end of the Batman 'animated series'], then add the sound of an army of spiders scuttling across your living room floor, and you'll get the idea. (4) Director SAM RAIMI's wonderfully hyperkinetic visual style, propelling the action forward while emphasizing the larger-than-life feel of a comic book. (3) The much-maligned SPECIAL EFFECTS, CGI and all. The widescreen format preserves the 'rush' as Spidey swoops headlong through the city streets, barely missing cars and pedestrians (and nearly running into buildings) in hot pursuit of the bad guys. It's a GREAT ride. (2) TOBEY MAGUIRE's understated performance as geeky high school kid Peter Parker. When Peter realizes that he has superpowers, you feel his joy as he leaps from rooftop to rooftop through the gritty city, empowered at last. Yet, even after becoming Spidey, Maguire never lets you forget the scared kid underneath the superhero, ready to break through at any moment. AND FINALLY... (1) J.K. SIMMONS' hilarious, scenery-chewing, all-too-brief turn as newspaper editor (and chief-Spidey-hater) J. J. Jamison. I hope we'll see a LOT more of JJJ in the sequel. Thanks for reading this, and see you at the movies!

Summary: Huge Spidey fan, big fan of the movie, LOVE the DVD!
Review: I have been a fan of Spidey for nearly 30 years now and had high hopes for the movie. It did NOT disappoint. The acting, pace, action, and humor were all done to near perfection.

Then it came time to get the DVD, and was I ever impressed! Not only is the film presented well on the DVD, but the extras blew me away! I love extras, but rarely find myself viewing the extras multiple times. This DVD's extras are among my favorites. I especially liked the montage of Spidey artists over time - great insights to one of the greatest super hero characters of all time.

Let's hope the same creative teams are in place for the sequel and especially the DVD extras!

'Nuff said!

Summary: SPIDERMAN - GO AHEAD AND GET WEBBED!
Review: Fantasy?...Of course, but what a fun fantasy, action packed fantasy. Tobey Maguire brings the Spider Man character to life, he makes the character seem so real, and those Spider Man moves are so slick. He's having fun and you're having fun watching this. Even his nemesis, the Green Goblin has some incredible scenes (and cool dialogue). Make this one a must have for your collection.

Summary: Absolutely Wonderful Super Hero Movie
Review: I am a huge fan of Spider-man comics and this movie doesn't disappoint. This movie is my favorite comic book movie of all time. In fact this is one of my favorite movies of all time (in the big budget blockbuster genre at least). The casting is wonderful. The story is superb. Acting is stellar. Raimi's directing is top notch. (I must admit i'm an evil dead fan as well so i think it's especially cool he's directing Spider-man). What isn't great about this movie? In a word: nothing. The perfect super-hero action film.

Summary: A Great Comic Book Adaptation
Review: I loved this movie.
It Was a Great Adaptation from the comic books. Tobey Maguire, Though he doesn't look exactly like his comic book namesake,Peter Parker, does a great job portraying him. Willem Dafoe,a.k.a. the Green Goblin,is awsome in his role, but coudn't they Let him develop amnesia, like in the comics, before they Killed him off?James Franco, the Goblin's son,is stunningly similar looking to Dafoe.Kirsten Dunst is fine in her role, but that red hair is so fake looking. All in all this is a great movie For people of all ages.I am looking foward to the sequel.

Summary: Incredible
Review: I give this movie the full 5 stars because of how great it actually is. The actual movie has incredible graphics which come out great on my 61" TV, Not to brag of its size. In addition to the actual movie, one should consider all the bonus features that come with this DVD. I'm not going to get into great detail over this but I promise you will love this movie whether you love comic books or whatever your situation be.

Summary: Send your spider-senses tingling
Review: From the guy who brought you "The Evil Dead" comes this high-flying adaption of the legendary comic series. The cast is great, the cinematography is fun, the music is adventurous, the writing is excellent, the directing perfect - it's just an awesome movie. Who would've expected that a comic book adaption would turn out to be a great movie to send your spider-senses tingling?
