Summary: Highly Dissapointing
Review: This movie was not all that wonderfull, it is about five billion times woorse than the previews amke it out to be, and also the plot takes einstein to understand-for example, what was up with the Hulk's dad (toward the end of the movie) turning into a giant bubble and then blowing up, and also why did the hulk's girlfriend's dad try to kill him with the weird giant dogs? those are only two of the many very difficult to understand parts of this lame movie. I saw Spiderman and X-Men 2 and other Marvel movies, and those were pretty good, but this one is a discrace to the marvel name, so all of the people that were going to buy this twisted movie, you might want to think twice before you buy, get any other movie by marvel and i assure you that it will be better than the Discracefull "Hulk"

Summary: ALEXS CAPSULE MOVIE REVIEWS
Review: Highlights: The best 'comic book feel' ever created in film; Sam Elliot's performance; the culmination fumes with vigor; script.

Lowpoints: Runs a little too long; Hulk looks cartoony; pretentious at times.

Conclusion: While some scenes, like when Hulk holds on to a jet that soars so high stars could be seen, smolder with potency, Ang Lee's venture into comic-book territory does not entirely live up to its hype. Once the viewers get used to the digital Hulk though, they are bound to appreciate the intelligent screen-play, decent performances and amazing comic-book style editing that Hulk has to offer. In addition, the final half an hour of the film will leave anyone breathless.

Summary: The Beast Within
Review: Award-winning director Ang Lee ("Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon") takes on Marvel's super-antihero in the amusing comic-book adventure "Hulk". For Bruce (Eric Bana, "Black Hawk Down"), his past has always been a mystery but an accidental dose of gamma radiation releases a powerful force within him. As Bruce tries to understand his nightmarish condition, his unstoppable alter-ego has become the prime target of the US military and his obsessed scientist father (Nick Nolte). Lee's indepth adaptation of Stan Lee's comic creation, recieved favorable reviews from critics but audiences whom expected a more slam-bang, effects-driven actioner, felt disappointed. "Hulk" is an inventive character-driven Sci-Fi film that remains faithful to Stan Lee's sympathetic character. The film often succeeds due to Lee's stylish directing, a top-notch cast and an exceptional use of split-screen and moving frames to suggest a comic-book layout. The film's biggest flaw lies in its story that often feels too long and somewhat uneven. The CGI Hulk looks fine but the FX crew manages to capture the creature's character and movement quite effectively. Once the Hulk goes on a rampage, the film delivers some eye-popping visuals and rousing action scenes.

Like the film, the DVD has its pros and cons. The film is presented in a 1.85:1 anamorphic widescreen format. The DVD contains a "smashing" video transfer with stunning sharpness and rich color detail. The Digital 5.1 sound is excellent with enhanced surround effects and good use of bass. This 2-Disc presentation features a good collection of extras including an audio commentary with director Ang Lee, behind-the-scene and FX featurettes and deleted scenes. Unfortunately, the DVD also contains pre-show theatrical trailers and some dull "Sunny D" TV spots. Despite its flaws, the "Hulk" 2-Disc edition is a surprisingly good DVD and earns a "B-".

Summary: Boring
Review: This movie tries to explain everything with a very long slow start that just never develops.

What ever happened to good ol action fun? It was like watching some documentary.

The original TV series is waay better than this one.

Summary: HULK
Review: This movie is...ah-how can I put this-impressive. This movie has some really good CGI and they make a much better Hulk than was seen in The Incredible Hulk. Don't get me wrong, I still love that old movie, but this was still better. It has a truly creepy and detestable villain (David Banner) and some EXCELLENT scenes of Hulk knocking the army to kingdom come. Anothe thing I liked was how during some scenes they would split the screen up into smaller boxes and show the scen from different viewpoints. some said that got annoying, but I liked it. It was like watching a live, moving comic book! This movie gets just 4 stars for some under-impressive acting, but its still a good buy.

Summary: 2 weeks later, about 10 viewings, still a flawed masterpiece
Review: since my 1st review i have viewed and reviewed the hulk over and over and still get so hypnotized by it it astounds if only you give it patience and the repeat screenings it so richly deserves! it really is an incredible and unforgettable film by ang lee and i still say bravo for taking a comic and turning it into a deep, dark, beautifully acted and crafted film.

Summary: The Missed the Point - Entirely - But They Tried!
Review: Directed by Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Sense & Sensibility) this movie lacks the most important this a movie needs - a story. Having grew up with the Stan Lee (Spider-man, X-Men) comics and the original Bill Bixby series I knew the story of Dr. Bruce Banner.

They made a different twist of the origins on this one and to tell you the truth it didn't make a lot of sense. Genetically adapting the "anger" in all of us as a defect and enhancing it with a drug was not very believable for me. Dr. Bruce banner was motivated by the death of his wife - not the liquid in a needle passed from a father.

They missed the heart of his exile..anyway the other factor that disappointed me was the character of The Hulk was ENTIRELY CG. (Computer Generated. Yikes! Was Ang trying to be real or a Looney Toon. I love the Looney Toons, but this wasn't that kind of film. It was supposed to be a drama.

The humor in is a little dry as well. I do credit Eric Bana (Chopper, Black Hawk Down) for trying to make the character work and to be honest the most interesting character was the most Looney of all - the father - played by Nick Nolte (Mulholland Falls, I Love Trouble) - he was having fun. Even the love interest played by Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind, Pollock) was that interesting. I wouldn't risk a civil war over her character. Sam Elliot (We Were Soldiers, The Final Cut) as her father was more interesting and more motivated to be in the story than she was.

Okay - I was disappointed. I could have lived with the cartoon Hulk - who didn't look that great - if the story was more interesting and it stuck to the original premise. Sorry, but - there shouldn't be a sequel to this. (11-12-03)

Summary: The Incredible Sulk
Review: I immediately level a strike against any DVD that doesn't allow the viewer to skip through the obligatory "2 Fast 2 Furious" preview at the outset. Little was I to know that the car-chase brain candy teaser would be the most entertaining offerings on the disk. Ang Lee absolutely massacres the the Marvel comic classic in his agonizingly long-winded and hyperbolous take on the "Hulk". Using split screen, frame-in-frame overlaps to mirror a comic book panel layout, Lee attempts to distract the viewer with passe first-year film school tricks to cover the lack of an entertaining tale. He also appears to delight in inducing migranes in the audience by morphing each scene change into either a microscopic blood-flow shot or sliding panel wipe. It took one hour, yep an HOUR, just to get through the set-ups, flashbacks and tedious explanitory riff-raff before the story proper began to unfold. And even then, each and every scene was peppered with child abuse, repressed memories and long sincere discussions on the angst of every character in the film. With the charisma of an underwear model, Eric Banna sleepwalks his way from scene to scene as the hunky but emotionally devistated brainiac geneticist Bruce Banner. Then there's Jennifer Connelly's Betty Ross who simply can't stop crying and Nick Nolte as the twisted father who looks like he showed up on the set straight from his mug shot sessions with the LAPD. Dark, brooding and slower than Jessica Simpson reading Shakespeare, "Hulk" staggers back and forth between psyco-babble and eye candy with little to hold the audiences attention. With the abberant "Spiderman" as the sole exception, "Daredevil", the later "Batman" installments and "Spawn" are proof enough that the comic book to film genre has pssed what little prime it enjoyed. So to Hollywood I say "No More!". The fall from hype to post-screening let-down is too painful for this movie goer to endure again.

Summary: How do you make The Hulk boring?
Review: By taking it too seriously. That's how. This thing labors along like it thinks it's Schindler's List. It's a comic book movie. Where's the joy? The adventure? The freaking FUN? It's buried under an over-long expository first act, bad over-acting (Sam Elliot), bad under acting (Eric Bana), and some really silly concepts (a hulk poodle?).

And just because people keep saying the CGI "looks real", it doesn't make it so. It's good CGI, but in the end that's all it is. They just don't have the technology to do a realistic human face yet. So forr all of the effort that went into it, the result is just distracting.

This gets 2 stars for the small amount of action scenes near the end that didn't make me want to sleep.
