Review: This film is an absolutely hilarious twist on the legend of Zorro. George Hamilton gave one of (if not his best) performances. The show gets stolen by two outstanding actors: Ron Leibman and Brenda Vaccaro. Brenda could not have been funnier with as she gave her character (Florinda) quick wit. Ron Leibman (The Alcalde) was awsome as the sarcastic iron fisted and jack booted tyrant. I recommend this film very highly if you enjoy excellent script work and outstanding comedic performances.

Summary: The New Look of Zorro
Review: I remember this movie when I was a kid in mid 1980s. It's a very memorable movie and I've been longing to have the DVD. Back then there's no good news about its DVD release until last month I accidently got info from IMDb of it future release. Of course I placed advance order of this title. When the disc arrived yesterday, I was very happy and I watched the movie that night. The movie itself is not so special as a comedy movie. George Hamilton was funny and his looks were perfect as a macho-swordsman-hero Zorro. He almost look perfect as the Gay Zorro. His opponent/ enemy, forgot the name, was also superb. He's my favourite in this movie. His act was perfect and very funny. As for Lauren Hutton, unfortunately she didn't get a big role. She should have get more important dialogue than what she did. The storyline flews and easy to follow. Not confusing, no bloodshed, rich with small slapsticks, and even accurate in details (designs of homes and castle, paint color, dress, weapons, etc). Oddly enough that rifles and guns wereas not often used in this movie. Mostly only swords and knife. The gay Zorro was also good and hilarious. His costumes were also colorful and he should get more appearances in the movie. Hamilton was gay enough to express those gay attitudes :) I really love this guy. This movie can't be on par with other successful comedy movies, but it's fun enough to see the other side of Zorro.

Summary: A Guilty Pleasure
Review: George Hamilton, who produced as well as starred, dedicated this film to Rouben Mamoulian, who directed The Mark of Zorro, with Tyrone Power, in 1940. It's probably a coincidence that he directed The Gay Desperado in 1936, but it's a pretty funny coincidence. It's true that the DVD lacks any special features or any text, and the sound track is monaural, but the transfer is very good; the color is excellent and it's obvious that Image went to some trouble to find a good print. Liebman does chew the scenery, as Maltin points out, but the script has a number of memorable lines, and Hamilton is simply great fun to watch as he has fun with his dual roles. This is a DVD you will enjoy sharing with those who have never seen it.

Summary: If this is the best they can do, why bother?
Review: "Two bits, four bits, six bits, a peso... all for Zorro stand up and say so!" A great line from a very funny movie that I was looking forward to finally owning on disc. Unfortunately this DVD is one of the worst I've ever seen. Image Entertainment is scrambling for movies they can cash in on the DVD fad with, but they put no effort at all into the production of this disc. The sound (mono??!!) is hollow and the picture, which is soft and grainy, shows very little improvement over the VHS tape. You want extras? Look elsewhere, because there are none on this disc. One would think that with the staggering lack of features, the least Image could do is give us a booklet with one or two photos or cast comments. No, the company decides instead to include a tacky brochure pushing their DVD line. Hopefully some are better than this poorly executed disc. I guess I'll never know, because after wasting my money on this DVD, I won't be purchasing any other Image products.

Summary: 5 stars just are'nt enough!
Review: a fun movie w/ laughs and more laughs! i was about 10 yrs. old when this one was released and i was able to see both this, and "love at first bite", at the theater. hamilton is fantastic, proving that he is quite adept at comedy. the rest of the cast is great in this... quick and funny in all the right places. this could have been just another retelling of zoro, but it ends up being so much more, a good movie for the whole family to enjoy. as much as i enjoyed "love at firest bite", "zoro the gay blade" is just that much better. 5 stars just are'nt enough! buy it, watch it, and then watch it again!

Review: I was honestly surprised by this film. It's funny, witty, and quick. I really did like this movie. I was surprised that I would. I figured it would be just another lifeless spoof that is better left off of TV, but I was wrong (as I sometimes am). This is just a good movie. The best part of this movie, in my opinion, is when the brothers go to a costume ball with the real Zorro brother dressed as Zorro and his brother dressed as a woman. Here the alcalde (Zorro's enemy) starts coming on to the the brother dressed as a woman and in the process the two steal a very exspensive necklace belonging to the alcalde's wife. I would reccomend this movie to anyone, buy it and watch it, you won't be disspointed.

Summary: Politically Incorrect for your own good!
Review: This is a film that could not be released today in the politically correct climate that we are being aphyxiated by. Peter Medak has opened a door and slammed it shut by creating this masterpiece of farce and action in a very broad sense. Future generations will be stunned by the use of "broken English" and "fractured Spanish". This film, at the time of it's release, was not daring by any stretch of the imagination. It was though, a brilliantly executed example of ensemble comic acting. Hamilton is at his most smarmy and parodies his own "tan, bland, and randy!" self with this terrific acting feat. He doesn't exactly "chew" the scenery as much as caress it. Liebman reaches a pinnacle here that I think plants him firmly among the greats. The supporting cast is just that and in spades! You can view funnier films and better acted & directed films but this is a film that combines acting, directing and fun and does it joyfully and admirably. Please remember,.......and he is not in Barcelona!

Review: George Hamilton buckles a comedic swash like no other. The impressive talent with which he plays his various roles in this film -- and the way he makes fun of his own good looks -- pushes this up to the 5-star level for me. If you've ever seen the original Zorro film, this parody is nothing short of hilarious.

Summary: Say Something Like a Sissy Boy
Review: One of the most underrated and overlooked movies of all time. Over the top and campy, the movie is filled with one laugh after another. After seeing it first in the theater and then years later on video, I could not believe it was as funny the second (and third and fourth and fifth) times as the first. Don't take it seriously and you will have a wonderful time and you will be quoting lines for days afterwards. A true comic classic.
