Summary: It is the best video! Hopkins and Banderas liven it up!
Review: I have never seen any movie that has had everything in it: Humor, action, love, and seriousness. There will never be another like it in this and the next century.

Summary: THE MASK OF ZORRO BEST EVER MADE !
Review: The Mask of Zorro is a beautiful film, great story excellent acting, this one shines above all the Zorro films ever made. Antonio Banderas is just electrifying as Zorro and of course Anthony Hopkins was tremendous. Catherine Zeta Jones was just perfect with beauty beyond compare. This film deserves Oscar consideration and acting nominations. This is one of the greats, anyway you view it, Big Screen, Video, DVD a definite wonderful experience.

Summary: Lots of Action, Romance, and just plain Fun
Review: For those who say they don't make movies like they used to, this proves that they do. This picture has all you want in the way of great action and stunts without taking itself too seriously. The humor is just enough to keep it light and Antonio Banderas makes an excellent (if at times a self depricating) Zorro. Catherine Zeta-Jones lights up the screen with her beauty and charm and Anthony Hopkins gives his usual professionalism to his role of teaching his student retribution with honor. If you are in the mood for a movie that gives you a great measure of pure entertainment, you won't fail with "The Mask Of Zorro"!

Summary: Fact vs. Fiction
Review: A good movie, but it would have been even better if it had followed the original Zorro character timeline (Z first saw print in 1919). I was a little disappointed at the "Karate Kid" plot--wise old has-been crimefighter trains new replacement. Also, some of the historically accurate characters--like Capt. Love--weren't as evil as the movie portrayed. Love had to track down a very nasty "Zorro" in real life. The fictional Zorro--somewhat based on the real 1850s California highwayman-bandito named Juan Murrieta--was a murderer and thief. Not much of a romantic hero in reality.

Summary: The best action film of the summer!
Review: The Mask Of Zorro was the best action film of the summer, far outdistancing Armageddon, Deep Impact and all the mind-numbing special effects movies of the past few years. How did they do it? With good old-fashioned storytelling, beautiful locations and sets, fine acting, and a script that did not insult the viewer's intelligence. The fencing was incredible, all the more so because the actors did much of it themselves; this lent to the believability of the action. No tricks or special effects, just great stunt work (how about the scene with the horses?), skill, humor, gravity when the situation called for it, and a rousing conclusion. All in all, a must-see for everyone!

Summary: Hopkins does it again!
Review: If there's a more versatile actor now appearing, I challenge you to find him or her. After years of watching Mr. Hopkins, I was prepared to dismiss his performance in "Zorro" as a throw-off role for bucks. BUT it's simply a great performance that he gives as the elder Zorro whose heart is broken and life is shattered after his wife is killed and his daughter is kidnapped. For those who know the plot, it's typical of the genre and the supporting cast is fine as it swashbuckles its way along. The younger crowd will certainly enjoy Antonio Banderas as the "new" Zorro but it's Hopkins who will be remembered for his engaging portrait of a man who loses everything but doesn't quit. Indeed, it's an extremely entertaining morality play and will probably be enjoyed by all--even the "Masterpiece Theatre" bunch.

Summary: Literally the best transfer and sound available on DVD
Review: This is an unbelievable transfer and soundtrack. The video and audio quality are simply first rate, unparalleled in any other DVD I've seen. Trust me - I've seen a lot (I own nearly 100). I saw this movie in a THX-certified DTS theatre, and I can honestly say it sounds better on my Marantz receiver, Toshiba DVD player, and B&W speakers. Absoutely first rate job by Columbia-TriStar. Now, if they could only do something about getting their discs to default to DD 5.1 ........

Summary: One of the best movies of 1998, no doubt about that!
Review: I have been waiting for this to come to video so I could buy it and rewind it and play it again & again & again. I saw it twice in the theatres, and the first time I left--my friends and I couldn't stop smiling and gushing for the next hour. Definatly the best action movie of the summer, buy it to keep. It just gets better and better. The dance scene is uh..killer!
