Rating: Summary: Warning - Very small spoiler, though it's already obvious. Review: When I heard that Spider-man was going out in theaters, I didn't really expect a great movie. After all, the current adaptations haven't been the best in the world; Harry Potter, for example, was a huge let-down because of the enormous missing chunks and dullness. I've been a Spider-man fan for as long as I can remember, and I guess I didn't want to see some director screw up my favorite super hero's reputation by making a below-average movie. I'm just that kind of girl who can't stand a disappointment. And so, on opening day, I listened to my friends talk about how they wanted to see the movie so badly, and when they asked if I wanted to go with them, I refused the offer. But one of the movie-goers later told me it was an excellent movie and I should watch with him (he wanted to watch it again. I was surprised) again. And so I did, and my reaction was one of pure amazement.First of all, the casting is excellent. Tobey Maguire made a great Spider-man, much to my surprise. He played Peter Parker like Peter Parker should be. I don't mean the sharp-tongued witty sort of guy most super heroes are, but just a regular person who, of course, can mess up. He was able to make most of us cry, laugh, or just stare in awe at the person who had turned a 2D character into someone real. I thought Kirsten Dunst wasn't the right type of person for the part of M.J., but she played the role pretty well. Her little speech at the end was corny and mushy, and I didn't like that too much. The Green Goblin was the best of the actors and actresses. When you watch him, you can see that he isn't acting out his part well; he IS his part. His face even looks like an evil person! I thought the costume was a bit like something that would scare a 6-year old, but anyhow ... I really hated the people who would go, "Oh! It's Spider-man!" or a stupid line like, "Oh gee! What's that in the sky?" It got really annoying after a while and I was thinking, "Yes it's Spider-man, you idiots." The people in this movie were great nevertheless, whether they made the audience laugh, scream, cry, or fall off (or jump out of) their seats. The plot was a bit off. It's just sort of the regular good against evil sort of theme and everyone knows how that will end. I did liked how the director didn't make the entire movie about the action and the explosives and the kicking and the leaping from bombed buildings and all that extra action stuff some people add to their movies to increase an audience's excitement level. There was actually a back story and mixed in tid bits that gave this movie a harder punch. But augh! The special effects were really bad! The scenes where Spider-man is swinging around the city in his costume were okay, and most of the action sequences were okay, but otherwise (I'm talking about Parker's fight with the Flash guy), they stank. The impression the audience gets in certain parts is, "Wow. That was really fake," and the people watching the movie won't believe the story anymore. >>>>>>>WARNING: SMALL SPOILER The ending battle really blew me away. I was really affected by the harshness of both fighters, and it was of course exciting because, even though the death of Spider-man was not probable. It didn't matter though, because the audience was still worried for their hero. I also enjoyed and understood the ending when Parker turned down MJ. I'm not exactly sure why, but I have an idea. He wanted to keep her out of danger, because if future bad guys (and there will be future bad guys) knew who he loved, they would go after her like the Green Goblin did. It was an act of personal sacrifice, and it sort of celebrated the goodness of Peter Parker, further distinguishing the line between good and evil. I know there's going to be two more sequels, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed! These are only some of the points. I do think though, that this movie definitely deserves at least, if rated one out of ten, an 8 (I think it'd have to be one heck of a movie to get a ten ;-P) Rating: Summary: Great Story, cheesy effects Review: This movie was awesome! The story followed the comic books very closely. I thought it was well made and had only two small problems with it. First off- Some of the computer generated effects (i.e., Peter jumping from building to building), were very cheesy. It looked pretty fake, and I wasn't impressed by a lot of the computer generated effects. Second- I know they're making two more SpiderMan movies, but c'mon, the ending was terrible! I won't give away any details, but lets say the ending wasn't what I expected. Don't be discouraged by this... the movie, the story was great and this film is surely worth it. Oh, the Green Goblin looked a bit funky, but that's what made him the bad guy, I guess.
Rating: Summary: Walking in w/ interest; walked out a fan Review: I just got back from seeing Spider-Man at the theatre. As the title reads, I walking into the theatre interested in this movie; I never really was a Spiderman fan. At the end, I walked a fan.I found the movie to be well put-together. Awesome scenes with high-flying action. The first scenes where Peter Parker is playing with his new-found abilities were great. One reviewer here said that Willem Dafoe was over-the-top. I disagree; I think that his acting was spot-on. His protrayal of the stereotypical bad guy was just right for the Green Goblin, the mad-genius nemesis for the movie. I am looking forward to this movie's sequel. I hope that they don't change a thing, because they hit the bullseye with this one! It's said that you shouldn't believe the hype until you see for yourself. Spider-Man is an excellant expection; go see this movie now, without delay!!
Rating: Summary: This is the best movie I've seen by far! Review: I went to see Spider-man last night and it was awsome from beginning to end! After seeing MTV's Spider-man behind the scenes and how spectacular the special effects were I knew this was a must see. It has something for everyone from explosive action to romance. Fans old and new will love it!
Rating: Summary: His Curse! Review: Only this phrase could say so much about spiderman, It kicked butt! And surely it did. Spiderman is the most impressive comic book turned to movie yet. I remember seeing Superman:the movie and in awe about how interesting it was. Christoper Reeve was Superman and I thought no one could have played him better. I feel the same way with Michael Keaton as Batman and now I can say the samething about Tobey Muguire. He stealed the show with his nerdish and cunning acts as Peter Parker Honestly I was never really was a Spiderman fan ,but I knew that there were comic books out that's really all I needed to know ,but the movie has changed my reasoning about Spiderman. I savered every second of that movie and hoped it would never end!!!Cheers for director Sam Raimi, who is known for his famous Evil Dead series (I've seen all of them at least a million times!)He has brought a lot of heart and compassion to this movie. When I realized last year he was making the movie, I said to myself he will make the diffinative Spiderman movie. Cheers for Kirsten Dunst as the girl next door, Mary Jane (M.J. for short). Cheers for William Dafoe who took this challenge and rose up to it.He was my favorite charactor throughout this movie! What a pro! Anyways go see Spiderman and have a good time... You'll love it!
Rating: Summary: Awesome, Charming, True-to-Life Spiderman Review: When I went to watch the Spiderman movie, I wasn't sure what quite to expect. I had an idea, but not sure. Everything in the movie left me happy, though. It reminded me of the spiderman animated series I would watch on TV when I was a few years younger. Peter Parker had that charming attitude with him and those sarcastic, charming sort-of sayings of his. The movie was true-to-life with these and other aspects of everything I remember from the animated series. I was VERY pleased. I always loved the Spiderman cartoon series and the movie only improved upon what I expected to see when I watched the cartoon as a kid! I'm happy with the movie :-)
Rating: Summary: My Spiderman Movie Review Review: Spiderman was one of the best movies that I have seen in my entire life (and believe me when I say that I've seen many many movies). My favorite movie was orginally The Wizard of Oz, but after seeing Spiderman I think that I'll have to change my expectations of what a good movie should be like. It was a great movie (I've probably already mentioned that)! The graphics were absolutely amazing! It was so amazing to see (for the first time) Parker try out his powers, by swinging from building to building. The whole audience went on a wild ride when the Green Goblin was zooming about the city. And to be someone who currently lives in New York and hear the guy on the bridge close to the end of the movie scream "If you mess with one of us, you mess with us all!" it made me feel even more patriotic than usual. For everyone who goes to that movie who was in some way affected by September 11th, they will (I assure you) be crying. But back to the funky stuff: Watching Spiderman swing throughout the city was so amazing, you felt like you were there swinging alongside him. Even though there was the love story in it, it was all summed up at the end, when spiderman swings up to the American Flag. I don't get why people are calling the love story sappy. I thought it went along great. My favorite scene had to have been when Spidey and MJ were kissing upside down. I read in online interviews that it was freezing and that Tobey couldn't breath, 'cause the mask was over his nose and Kirsten was kissing his mouth. But, despite all of that, Kirsten and Tobey made the kiss look so romantic that....that....that....I can't even think of words to describe that scene ('cause it was so cool)! I also really loved the flashback the day after Mr. Osbourne (Willam Dafoe) tested the drug on himself in the lab. It was so loud and so surprising that I JUST LOVED IT! Also, all of the other scenes that have Peter (Spiderman) swinging around the ciry were just plain cool! There were also a number of comedic scenes in the movie that made it even better that it already was. Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, Willam Dafoe, James Franco, J.K. Simmons, and everybody else who was in this movie was fantastic! ... SPIDERMAN ROCKS!...
Rating: Summary: Simply a fun movie Review: The movie started and right off the bat you could tell it was going to be an entertaining flick. It doesn't focus to much on the story between Mcguire and Dunst. Instead it substitutes with action and special effects that are amazing. This is just a fun movie, don't expect to much of a plot and don't expect to see any major awards being shelled out to this or anyone involved (special effects team excluded). Spider-man is what summer movies are made of lots of fun, lots of action, and lots of special effects. Great summer flick.
Rating: Summary: An Awesome Movie! Review: From begining to end, I was kept on the edge of my seat during Spider-Man. It was a better movie than I expected it to be, and I plan to see it a couple more times. Tobey Maguire was the the perfect role as Spider-Man, and Kirsten Dunst was great as MJ. I was a little dissapointed in the end where Spider-Man didn't take the girl, but hopefully he will in the sequel; which I can wait for. It was a movie well worth the time and money.
Rating: Summary: SPIDERMAN, NOT SHAKESPEARE Review: It's been a long time since I read a comic book, but when my roommate told me that Spiderman is "an AWESOME movie," well, I just had to see what it was that put that enthusiasm in his voice. Much to my delight, the movie is very faithful to the original comic, with only a few minor variations, none of which detracted from my enjoyment of the film. The music in the movie is very good, ESPECIALLY the opening music. And the PLOT, my goodness, I never thought a movie based off a comic book could have such a wonderful plot. However, as great as myself and others make this movie sound, it's not without its harsh critics. Some reviewers talk about the silly one-liners, the silly costume for green goblin, etc. This is where my title for the review comes in: THIS IS SPIDERMAN, NOT SHAKESPEARE! The very IDEA of a man getting bitten by a genetically altered spidered and acquiring super powers is ridiculous to begin with, which is why it makes perfectly good sense for everything else to follow suit. Normally, I HATE spiders, but this spider is definitely one I'd like to see more of.
