Summary: The start of something better, hopefully
Review: Slick special effects hung over a simple plot don't often make for good viewing. Fortunately, "Spider-Man" is saved from being just another big-budget Hollywood blowout by the guileless performance of Tobey Maguire and the lightly humorous touch of Sam Raimi and his writers. A darker tone and a more complex story would have made this far more interesting, but they can wait for any one of the numerous sequels. And by the look of the boxoffice, there'll be plenty. This isn't a great movie, but it's a great start to what should be a highly entertaining franchise.

Summary: SUMMER BLOCKBUSTER WITH AN IQ!!!
Review: Spiderman was one of the most eagerly awaited movies of 2002, which is a lot of baggage to carry when setting out to make an adaptation of one of the most popular comic strips ever. However, with Sam Raimi safely entrusted with the responsibility of Directorial duty and the excellent casting of Tobey Maguire as Peter Parker and Kirsten Dunst as Mary Jane Watson, this movie always looked a sure-fire winner and indeed it is exactly that.As everybody knows Spider-man's alter ego Peter Parker is that anonymous boy next door, the boy who never gets the girl and whom the girl doesn't even notice. He's as pure as the driven snow, devoted to his Aunt and Uncle, the boy for girls to take home to their mother, safe, kind but somewhat unexciting. Bullied at school, he is the butt of everyone's jokes and regarded as something of a nerd, a bit of a loser. However, after being bitten by a genetically modified spider, Peter transforms overnight from anonymous boy next door to super hero in this good guys can come first comic-book tale. There are so many good things about Spider-man it is hard to know where to start. First off, what I found most impressive and refreshing was the screenplay, which unlike most major Hollywood studio major event movies actually relies on narrative, plot and character development to tell the story instead of just loosely sewing together action scenes with meaningless dialogue (Simon West are you listening?). Credit for this should go to writer David Koepp and Director Sam Raimi for avoiding this obvious pitfall that has spoilt many a summer blockbuster (such as Tomb Raider to give but one example). Raimi's direction is sure-footed and subtle and the decision to give him megaphone duties has proven to be well vindicated. The casting of Tobey Maguire is another masterstroke because Tobey Maguire is undoubtedly one of the most talented young actors around with a CV of critically acclaimed performances in critically acclaimed movies, that seasoned veterans would be proud of, such as; Ride With The Devil, Pleasantville, The Ice Storm, The Wonder Boys and The Cider House Rules. With Mr Maguire as Peter Parker we get performance of depth and subtlety of a teenager struggling with more than the normal transformation from boy to man. Kirsten Dunst (Drop Dead Gorgeous, The Virgin Suicides) is also a spectacular success with her girl next-door looks and range and depth of emotion and ability, as is Willem Dafoe (Platoon, Light Sleeper etc.) in the villainous role of the Green Goblin, carefully avoiding too much ham. All that said there are some faults. For example, some of the web-slinging CGI is a disappointment and up close the green goblins headgear is a bit rubbish. Spider-Man is also apparently (according to all the geeks) littered with continuity errors but much of that can perhaps be explained by the devastating happenings of September 11th and several scenes featuring the twin towers, including an apparently superb sequence with the villain's helicopter getting caught in webbing between the Twin Towers had to be cut, along with the relevant narrative. Plus the final scenes where a crowd of New Yorkers hurl objects at the Green Goblin has a definite tagged on feel to it but the who can blame them for it's addition is entirely appropriate and rightly captures the spirit of NYC in the aftermath of 9/11: "Ya take one of us on, ya take us all on!" shouts one patriotic New Yorker. Ending with our favourite web-slinger against the backdrop of the stars and stripes, Spider-Man is a resounding success and with Raimi, Maguire and Dunst all signed up for the sequel, I personally cant wait for Spider-Man 2.

Review: This movie is the best movie yet to come out, all the movie fanatics have no choice but to agree, the graphics are awsom the sound, the action, and the plot WOW I see no reason why pretty much anyone would have a problem with it. The most important thing of all if you just happen to have a heart condition of any kind I would not recomend this movie and that goes the same for realy small kids because mainly of just this one quick part in the movie that would make your heart skip a beat, well anywho hope you enjoy.

Summary: A DEFINATE "MUST BUY"
Review: I do not have the attention span of a 3-year-old, so when I decided to see this film in the theater I was worried that it would not suit my 3-year-old son whom I am inseperable to and take everywhere with me, boy was I wrong! My son didn't even touch his candy or popcorn through the whole show!(all you mothers recognize this is rare). I took him to this film three (3) times, and every time he was wide-eyed, and amazed. The graphics and special effects in this film were definately very well done. The story line followed the original story and tastefully depicted a real superhero that I am glad my 3-year-old looks up to. I recommend this as a gift for most boys especially where the release date is so near the holiday season. I definately will purchase this and count the days until this movie is available.

i saw a new error in the movie.{this is based on the
ultimate spider man}1.norman osborn and the spider thing
at the begining, is conected.also dr. octopuse is
in their somewhere.2.mary jane was never taken to the
brooklen bridge,{refence to other comic book}it's
gwen stacy.mar is taken prisoner at her shcool.
3.the made ben parker WAY to old. and he dies in his
house.4.the murder does not get killed,and he
lifts an ice cream vender,not the wressling bose.
5.when spidey wressles,his face is NEVER seen.
i've got more but,i think i've proved my point.
so if you havn't seen the movie,and your expecting
a based on the comic book movie,you'll be disapointed.
don't get me wrong,this is an asome movie.
but with all these other movies coming out that are
on books{harry potter,lord of the rings,etc},
you'de think stan lee would have done the same.

Summary: Quite good but not great
Review: I've noticed the bulk of these reviews are very positive. Now I'm not reviewing the dvd because I haven't got it. I want to talk about the film itself. First let me say I love superhero movies and I did enjoy Spiderman to some degree. BUT!!! There are a few reasons why this film could have been better. Point one - Movies these days don't seem to unravel at a good pace. The narrative seemed rushed, like the film makers were making this for a generation of people who need action all the time or else they'll lose interest. Parker got bitten by the spider and was climbing buildings 5 minutes later. Point two - There is some pretty corny dialogue in this. How did Toby Macguire say some of these lines without bursting into laughter. I refer to the banter between him and Dunst, involving how beautiful he thinks she is and BLAAAHHHH!!! Point three - The Green Goblin guy looked really fake. CGI can either be good or really bad. In this case it stank. The hollywood film industry is becoming like fast food. Quick, processed and leaves you feeling a bit empty. But I'm gonna leave this review on a good note. Macguire was well casted, DaFoe was hilarious, Dunst is georgeous and there's always a chance the sequel might be an improvement. Thank you, I'm done.

Review: ... I think tobey Maguire is the best young actor of his generation and I'm proud his movie is a hit (8th position in the world wide box office!) and that he is finally famous because he has a great talent and few people knew him when he started his career .... , I can tell you that in France, the film has 6 000 000 of tickets sold and my best friends love him! Me, I'm one of these people who know him from the start, from Ice Storm to Spider-Man . And I can tell you that he hasn't changed. he's still cute and very talented. Before saying something absolutely wrong on him, he must immediately see his movies! Spider Man is great! It's a masterpiece and this movie deserves to be a hit and to have lots of Awards! This movie deserves to make us see how Tobey Maguire is great and powerful!

Summary: An amazing action movie
Review: When I first went to see Spiderman, I felt a bit like a wannabe considering I had never once picked up a Spiderman comic (although I did watch the cartoons when I was little). As a Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings fan I was annoyed with the people going to see the movies without ever planning on reading the books. So I apologize to the comic book world for not reading the comics that inspired the film (they just aren't my thing) and I hope that they'll forgive me. I didn't know what to expect when I saw the movie, but I knew it looked interesting. After I saw it for the first time I was hooked, the action, the acting, the storyline, everything was thrilling and exciting. For everyone who hasn't had much experience with the Spiderman world, the movie is about a slightly geeky teen named Peter Parker (played by the amazing Tobey Maguire) who can't seem to go through life without screwing up majorly. He's in love with a girl (played by Kristen Dunst who has thankfully moved on from her teen movie phase) but can barely talk to her. But his life changes forever when Peter gets bit by a radioactive spider (for all you non-comic book fans out there, trust me, it's not as weird as it sounds. It's interesting). At first the only real affect the spider bite has on him is it makes him sick, but the next day when he wakes up he's much different. He's faster, stronger, and he can do amazing things like climb up walls and shoot sticky and strong webs from his wrists. But unknown to Peter, he's not the only one going through such a transformation. His best friend Harry's father Norman Osborn (played by the amazing Willem Defoe) is watching as his company falls apart at the seams. The only way he can save it is to try the enhancing formula out of himself with disastrous results. To say more could ruin the movie but let's just say it's great. Spiderman is filled with the perfect mix of nearly seamless CGI fueled action, a touching romance, and a wonderful family storyline. Spiderman is about finding confidence in yourself and doing the right thing no matter what the cost. I saw this movie 3 times in the theaters (including on opening weekend) and I can't wait until the DVD hits the stores. If your in the mood for something spectacular well I think you'll love this.
