Rating: Summary: Spiderman: From The Comics To The Silver Screen... Review: Spiderman (the movie) is a good adaptation - bringing an old classic comic book character to life on the big screen. Tobey McQuier plays the role of Peter Parker to a tee... I can't imagine any other actors (others considered were Freddie Prize Jr and Leonardo DiCaprio) doing a better job. Kirsten Dunst fits in the role of the somewhat clueless girl-next-door. The only issue I had was with the role of the Green Goblin (Willem DaFoe). I am a big fan of Dafoe's and many of his previous works are simply wonderful ("Platoon", "Mississippi Burning", "Last Temptation of Christ", "Clear & Present Danger", etc). It just seems that his green side was comical (no pun intended), his lines were weak and overly trite, and his costume was a joke. Fortunately for this film, it centers around Spiderman and tho we're introduced to Dafoe in the first half of the movie, the Green Goblin really doesn't kick in until the second half. Director Sam Raimi did a fine job incorporating live action with computer animation... Spiderman goes from 0-60mph in seconds going from building to building and landing on NYC taxi cabs. One of the highlights was Peter Parker entering the wrestling ring as "The Human Spider" - downright funny! The cast includes long time buddy of director Raimi's, Bruce Campbell (the ring announcer) of "Evil Dead" & "Army of Darkness" fame; and long forgotten Cliff Robertson as the sentimental Uncle Ben. DVD extras include: Several commentaries, Chad Kroeger's music video "Hero", gag reel, the HBO making-of-the-movie, trailers, wonderful Spiderman comic book archives and much more. A good flick - and I have to remind myself this is a spin-off of a comic book character... to be taken light and unrealistically. Probably not too many Oscar nods, but regardless... it's a fun movie to watch.
Rating: Summary: Awesome Movie! Review: I loved Spiderman! I know it didn't follow the comic exactly, but it came close enough for a movie. The action was cool, the acting was good, Tobey Maguire IS Spiderman, what more could you ask for? It has a great soundtrack also. If you're a fan of the Spiderman comics, don't hesitate to see this movie, it definitely won't ruin it for you. If you have never read Spiderman you won't know any better than to think it's just a really cool movie, so see it anyway!!! This movie rocks!!!
Rating: Summary: tobey maguire can't act Review: this is a rotton movie with terrible acting. it is like watching a badley dubbed film but instead of the actors mouths moving to the wrong words they don't move at all
Rating: Summary: One of the best movies ever. Review: This is the best comic book movie ever with great acting and a real story line, it's truly brilliant.
Rating: Summary: In the words of Comic Book guy, "Worst movie ever." Review: This movie was monumentally bad. I was blown away by how truly awful this film was. It didn't come close to any of the Batman or Superman movies, not even the duds like Batman and Robin or Superman III. Even for a superhero flick this was thin, foolish, convoluted, and just overall no fun at all. If you want a good comic book movie, go buy the original Batman with Michael Keaton and Jack Nicholson. And, at all costs, avoid this travesty of a summer "blockbuster".
Rating: Summary: A Classic? No. Spider-man? Yes! Review: I gave this film the five star rating because it made me feel like a five year old again. Sometimes the effects were way too obvious. Sometimes the pacing left a bit to be desired. The ending confrontation is a let down. But, that Thanksgiving dinner? The first attack of the Goblin? Those dizzying sweeping web rides through NYC. The scene where Spidey dodges bullets? And, oh so important, Aunt May! Cliff Robertson as Uncle Ben! I loved every second of this. Your children will love it, even if they are grown and they have your grandchildren. They'll love it too! This film is a wonderful start to what could easily be a ten year series of films, if done right. If they avoid the Superman trap and stick to the stories Stan Lee spun during the first fifty issues that displayed such growth and maturity that became as much a part of the tale as the super hero conflicts. And always, the presence of Aunt May looms large. Spidey's greatest feats were always in protection of Aunt May. You just knew in the movie when Aunt May was in trouble that all heck was about to break loose. Remember, don't [mess] with Aunt May. It will always get you a pounding from a super powered kid in a spider costume. Nuff said!
Rating: Summary: A pro movie-goer Review: Spider Man in one word: Hollywood shmaltz. Spider-Man is one of the most shallow, and lame, movies I have ever seen. The over-the-top CGI sequences are eye candy but ruin the illusion of realism. The movie would present a much more serious and mature movie if Spiderman didn't swing towards the camera on everyshot. The movie plays like a videogame and does not achieve any realism on any levels. The only good part of the movie was Tobey Maguire's stuttering persona, which is perfect for the part, and Willem Defoe's cackling laughter. The movie is classic Hollywood fluff, a fun but forgettable movie. It isn't a patch on X-Men or Batman.
Rating: Summary: Spider Man is awsome and devoteful for fans. Review: Sam Rami's director of Darkman summer mega blockbuster Spider Man earned 100 million in less then two days which easily made it this summers highest grossing film of the summer banking in at 500 million worldwide to make it one of the top grossing movies of all time. But What made it endearing to fans was it's ability to stay with the original storyline.Nerdy High Schooler Peter Parker on a scientific feild trip , little does he know that he is about to undergo a change when he is bitten by a Super spider that has been genetically enhanced. Peter Parker is played perfect by (Tobey Magwire) who suddenly discovers that he now has powers beyond belief , he can move with great speed , he can climb walls , and spin webs from his arms it is as if he is becoming a human spider which is a humerious joke in the movie when he trys his powers out when he wrestles in a horribly genneric coustume. He's also caught the intrest of mad scientist played in a very sinister way by (Willam Defoe) who is also genetically altered by his own experients making him Green Goblin, Spider Man's nemisis in the film. Peter Parker want's attention from a beautiful young girl named Mary who is humeriously played by (Kirsten Dunst) but Peter knows that every corner he lurks Green Goblin could be behind him ,until there first clash in the movie in a very crowded manhatten and eventually a final showdown between Spider Man And Green Goblin , the movies ending is terrific it leaves us with a picture of Spider Man hanging from the american flag. Loaded with hours of special features and making of documentaries if you love Batman and Superman you'll love Spider Man but if they do make a sequel let's hope they keep Tobey it wouldn't be the same without him.
Rating: Summary: And then along came a spider! Review: Spider-man is great. Great visual effects, just as speedy (or rather slow) as the matrix. It has it all-great characters, great plot, great special effects and of coarse great sound editing! It is almost exactly like the comics/TV cartoons! In all probability one of the only differences are that... I'll let you know after you watch it (don't want to spoil it). This movie is worth watching! It's worth the wait that all Spider man fans have been waiting for. It's a film that's appealing to children, teenagers, and adults! I haven't met anyone who hates it! It has both romance and humor! Dunst and Maguire are perfect for the role! It's a movie that let's you know how wide an imagination of a director can be. It's a touching story and at the same time a fast action movie that you wouldn't mind watching over and over again! In a way it's like the comic book coming alive! It's for all Lord of the rings-Harry Potter-The matrix- and Batman fans! It's fundamentally concentrates on Peter Parker-a guy who's in love with Mary Jane. It's a kind of movie that Alanis Morissette songs would really go with since she has songs to support all the moods that you'd feel as you watch Spider-Man (and hey she has a song called Mary Jane!). Overall it was really worth the wait. It's better than any movie I've watched all summer! The movie packs together a lot of excitement. Just like Lord of the rings it's touching and at the same time exciting (I know I've mentioned this before!). No one could have made it any better than Raimi (although I'd like to watch a movie directed by Peter Jackson and Raimi). Spider-man is no old super hero movie (although it does have a damsel who is constantly in distress)-it's a modernized fast creation that could only be imagined as you read the comic books-until now! It's an impressive flick that you should watch if you haven't watched it yet! It's a movie that very rarely bores you. It doesn't stretch a scene by giving you too much detail.
Rating: Summary: same old action movie Review: This is a stupid movie. It's all mindless action and special effects. They dont try to write a good script or even hire good actors. They just want to appeal to stupid teenagers who see fancy visuals and wet their pants. It's not fun, it's not funny, just boring junk you can see any day on afternoon cartoon shows. Anybody over 13 should avoid this movie like the plague that it is.
