Summary: Packed with loads of goodies
Review: Having wondered how some of the tricks of the trade were handled and some shots were filmed with all the special effects, I really enjoyed the commentaries available on the audio tracks, as well as the spidey pop-ups done in VH1 pop-up video fashion. For those of you who watch t.v. as much as movies on dvd/video- you'll know what I'm talking about. The pop-ups really told me some quite interesting facts about the movie and not just all the technical mumbo-jumbo, but the little things about the movie that you never would have thought to consider asking about. I watched the dvd 3 times in a row and each time it was like watching a different movie. The added features with the cd-rom portion on it are quite cool as well, being able to record your own commentary. I liked the movie a lot but I liked the dvd a lot more. All in all, for the average price you will pay, buying Spiderman is worth the buck. You can't go wrong.

Summary: Buy This Movie!!!
Review: I loved this movie!! Tobey Maguire makes a perfect Peter Parker, and Kirstin Dunst is great as Mary Jane. I was surprised that it was more than just a superhero comic flick. Watch this movie... I'm sure you'll love it!!!

Summary: Great fantasy/action movie
Review: This movie is a fun take from the comic book character. Never a dull moment. It does have cinematic flaws and the story line is doesn't always make sence, so don't take it too seriously!
Fun movie for the family.

Summary: The Amazing Silver Screen Spider-Man DVD
Review: The story never changes, but it never gets old. Tobey Maguire makes for an unusual charicature of Peter Parker, but Maguire makes his performance unique to this movie, paralleled by the beautiful Kirsten Dunst and the dynamic Willem Dafoe. An amazing movie with stunning effects and an incredible cast! If you are considering purchasing this movie, it is an excellent choice!

Summary: I stayed awake!
Review: I have two little ones under the age of two and it is hard to sit and watch a movie for two hours without falling asleep. I stayed awake through the whole movie and wanted more when it was over....it was awesome.

Summary: I wonder if Mr. Raimi ever read Spider-man...
Review: I can deal with:

1. Mary Jane being a neighbor of the Parkers (what???)

2. Green Goblin's Transformer face & costume

3. Ohh yes, the terrible CGI...

But Mary Jane falling off the bridge? next time read the comic, Mr. Raimi, or you could watch X-Men (I have to say that I'm not big fan of them) or Batman and learn how a good comic book based movie should be done. Take this from a 22+ year reader of Spider-man...

...to quote J. Jonah Jameson (BTW him was excellent) from the movie: "crap...crap...mega crap". If you still want to see this, erase from your memory all your existing knowledge of Spider-man.

Summary: Being Spider-Man would be fun
Review: When I was a kid, I used to collect and read a bunch of comic books. Among them were He-Man, Thundercats, G.I. Joe, Atari Force, The Incredible Hulk, Superman, and of course, Spider-Man. I finally got to see this movie, the biggest blockbuster of all time, today on the DVD I got for Christmas. I was almost sure that I'd like the movie a good bit, but "Spider-Man" exceeded my expectations with full force.

"Spider-Man" has just about everything a fan of movies could want. Parts of it are funny, it has its action-packed sequences, the acting is great, and the special effects are out of this world! Just like a spider does to its web, "Spider-Man" sticks closely to the storyline of the classic comic books. But don't get me wrong. Even if you've never even seen one of the comic books in your life, you can enjoy this film as much as the next person.

Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) is just your normal, everyday high school kid who has a big crush on Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst). While visiting a museum with his class, a harsh species of spider just happens to bite Peter. Little does he know that he will soon be able to swing from webs, develop unbelievable strength, and have a relentless nemesis, the Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe).

"Spider-Man" instantly became one of my all-time favorite movies when I watched it, so I couldn't even wait a second to see the special features that it has with it. What do the cast members think of each other? Did you know that part of the film was taped inside a mansion where a scene from the movie, "Batman", also took place? Did you know that in the comics, Spider-Man could lift about ten tons?

These are just a few of the questions that you can discover the answer to while you read the available pop-ups and listen to the commentary of the cast and makers (these are a couple of the options) as you watch the movie. Also included on the first disc is a couple of music videos, the TV spots, loads of theatrical trailers (there are at least a dozen for this movie, and you can even watch trailers for "Men in Black II", "XXX", and others), filmographies and character files, and more.

The second disc is nothing but extras! You can watch HBO's Making of Spider-Man, an hour-long show about "Spider-Man" from the E! channel, screen tests, outtakes, costume and makeup tests, director and composer profiles, look through several, if not all of the Spider-Man comic books from the 60's to the present, check out works from the artists of Spider-Man, and even get some hints for the Spider-Man video game from Activision.

You know what? I barely mentioned more than half of the extras that are on these two discs that you can own by purchasing this awesome Spider-Man DVD. Whether you're the movie's biggest fan or you haven't even seen the classic yet, you should save a spot in your DVD collection for the 5-star movie that is "Spider-Man". I can't recommend it enough.

Summary: The Genetic Truth
Review: Dear Fellow Spidey-Fans,

As a young boy, I always imagined how fun it would be to have the abilities and commensurate strength of a spider, so in college I learned all about genetics and biochemistry in the hopes that one day I would have the skill to transfer the powers of a spider to myself. Unfortunately, I had to find work quickly to support my young family and took up a job selling insurance, but in my spare time, I like to perform molecular genetics experiments in my garage laboratory.

Thinking back on my youthful fantasies, I created a mutated strain of spider having all the abilities mentioned in the movie. I then infected the spider with a virus that incorporated the spider's genome into the virus's own DNA.

Much like in the movie, I allowed the spider to bite me, and also paralleling the movie, I felt woozy and collapsed to the floor. When I woke up later the next morning, I looked in the mirror with high hopes, but found my vision was distorted. On closer inspection, I realized that my vision was distorted because I had grown six extra eyelets, like a real spider. At first, I was horrified, but then I gradually came to accept it as the price of greatness. But that was not the end to the transformations.

I too, can spin a web, but it doesn't shoot out of my wrists. Instead, like a real spider, my spinerettes are located in my anus, so I have to pull down my pants every time I want to create a web.

I also have a deep craving for the blood of insects, and my family has left me because my favorite food is live flies which I catch with my web and digest by liquefication.

Anyway, I wanted to warn all you spidey-fans out there who are thinking of allowing themselves to be bitten by genetically-modified super spiders that you may get more than you bargain for. I no longer resemble anything human, and soon I will need to banish myself from human society for the sake of all that is good and holy. Please take heed, fellow spidey-enthusiasts, of my tale of woe.

Your arachnoidal friend

Summary: Worth it
Review: This is worth the buy but not for the movie. Even better is the bonus DVD you get with this gift set. The Stan Lee interview is absolutely fascinating. Stan Lee is a saint. This has got to be the nicest man in the world. While he does take credit for the creation of Spider-man, Fantastic Four, and others, he always mentions the team of people who helped to make them a success. This guy is an excellent story teller. You'll find that out when you hear him speak. It's no wonder his books have gone on to become a part of American culture.

Summary: For the seven of you out there still waiting, go see this.
Review: Really. It's a great film. Mind you, it was only meant for me. I'm a comics fan from WAY back...I've read every issue of every title of our favorite wall-crawler. I've grown up with him. He's grown up with me. So it means something when a movie comes out that people like myself have literally waited their WHOLE lives for, and not be at all disappointed.
To the contrary, in the theater, I grinned from the opening credits to the last flickering frame. The next day (had to go back, you know), same thing. I just saw it again on Christmas Eve, and again, pure bliss.
It's smart. It's fun. It looks good. It sounds good. It IS good. The characters are terrific, the effects nifty and the drama multilayered and involving at all times. The DVD extras are just gravy.
Honestly, I couldn't ask for more...except for a sequel...
