Summary: Solid movie and respectful adaptation
Review: This has been a favorite in my library since I got it. Not only does it treat an american pop-culture icon with the respect that it deserves, it is one of the most well balanced action-adventure movies to come out in a long time. This is what happens when a fan gets a hold of the material and does it right. Sure there is action, but an action flick is just flash and explosion without strong characters behind it. Sam Raimi is the perfect choice for the film. His Hitchcock like style and tongue-in-cheek humor lends itself well to Spider-Man. He has never been conventional, and he doesent disappoint here either. Tobey MacGuire is also an ideal choice as Peter Parker, Spider-Mans alter ego. The movie never lets you forget that there is a awkward teenager underneath that suit, and in order to pull that off, you need a decent actor. Yes there could have been others but I shiver to think what would happen if Freddie Prinze Jr. got the role. Willem Defoe was also aptly cast as Norman Osbourne a.k.a. The Green Goblin. But it also brings me to the only real issue I had with the film. His costume and I am being very picky. I loved Defoe's performance and see the reasoning why that the way that they did, but I was hoping for something a little bit more organic and less high-tech. Kirsten Dunst also does a good job as Mary Jane Watson, Peter Parkers love interest and I was surprised at the depth and maturity that went into the performance. But the show stealers are Cliff Robertson as Uncle Ben and J.K. Simmons and J. Jonah Jamison. Even the most skeptic Marvel die hards will agree that these two knocked out of the park. No matter how many times I have watched this, I always am amazed by them. The DVD is very impressive. The favorite feature of mine is the pop up option for the movie. It's the same as "VH1's Pop-Up Videos" just done with a feature film. Very informative and funny. The is also a commentary which is okay and you can also choose to have a spider icon option than, when it shows on the lower right of the screen, you press enter and a behind the scenes vignette shows up. Very similar to "Moulin Rouge" and "X-Men 1.5." The difference being, while still distracting, these vignettes are actuall interesting to watch. There are two music videos, concept art, and an interview with Spider-Man creator Stan Lee. Not to mention a really cool short featuring Todd MacFarlane and John Romita Jr. Two legendary Spider-man artists. My wife, who is not a comics fan, was surprised how much she liked the bonus material. So for you non-believers, this is a great way to see why the wall crawler has such a widespread and loyal fan base. All in all a really well put together film with a really well put together DVD. The only thing I would say is that parents of young kids should really heed the rating on this one. A film that you will feel compelled to watch over and over.

Review: One of the big flops of Batman is that Micheal Keaton wouldn't do the sequels. As long as they keep the same character, any new sequels can be just as good as this one!

Summary: 2002's #1 MOVIE!!
Review: Without any doubt, Spiderman is easily known to be the best movie of 2002. It is the second MARVEL movie made this century (With X-men being the 1st) and has more sequels to come. It is also the best MARVEL movie so far, Daredevil sadly didn't turn out to be as good as this. It has a good plot and great action scenes. Although things don't go the same way in this movie as they did in the Comic books, it is still a fun Spiderman story to watch. Tobey Maguire did a great job as Peter Parker/Spiderman especially when it comes changing from a nerd to a guy who will beat possibly anybody up and be fearless. This movie had great acting. Even this special edition DVD it comes on is great. It is packed with 2 disks and a lot of neat x-tra stuff. Here is the movie's plot.
Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) is probably known to be the biggest loser in school. He has only one friend named Harry Osborn (James Franko) and has had the biggest crush on a girl named Mary Jane Watson (Kirstin Dunst) in which he has had since like the first grade. Anyway on a school field trip to a laboratory that studies spider the scientists have created spiders which has some sort genetic gene from three other different spiders put in it so it can became a "super Spider". One of the Spiders escapes and goes "wandering" around in the lab. It eventually goes on to Peter's hand and gives him a big bite, OUCH!! At first Peter feels fine, but later things feel different. Also, Harry has a father named Norman who is the President and one of the workers at a company called OSCORB. What OSCORB does is make weapons for the military. Norman is working on some sort of gas that can enhance human performance once inhaled. But soon, Norman realizes he is in one of those now or never situations where he either tests the gas to see if it works or else his company goes down. Norman test the gas but things seem to wrong and Norman doesn't appear to be the same person. Anyway, back to Peter. Peter starts to feel weird but he when feels better, he notices some changes. For starters, his eyes don't seem to need glasses anymore and plus, he seems to be stronger, make that much stronger and things tend to stick to his fingertips even when the object is non sticky. And later he notices when danger is coming and he also notices a white sticky string come shooting out of his wriest. And last, he realizes he has the ability to climb up walls and jump like 100 ft high. With all his new abilities, Peter decides to join ameuter wrestling to score some big bucks. He decides to draw out an attire which is a read and blue costume with a black spider symbol in the middle of the chest. As he takes wrestling, his attire isn't exactly what he drew but it seems that scoring the big bucks won't be hard at all. But when the wrestling manager decides not to pay Peter the amount he should have gotten (nor did what he got come even close to what he expected) he gets really [mad]. Then when the manager gets robbed, Peter lets the robber go feeling like he got even with manager. But Peter's feeling change sad fully when he sees that his uncle's car was hijacked and the hijacker shot his uncle. Peter is bent on revenge to finding the guy who did this and when he does Peter realizes something shocking- The hijacker was the same guy who was the robber who Peter just let go. If he had cought him then when he should have, then his uncle would have never have been killed. After that, Peter swears to have never let that happen again. Before you know, a man now dressed in a costume, which is identical to the one Peter drew, now swings and crawls thru the city of New York stopping crime at now cost. No matter who does the crime, he'll do the time because he was stopped by the one, the only: SPIDERMAN! Now that peter's life has had a huge change he now faces many problems: 1, he cannot seem to hold a job cuz he is always staying up late to fight crime. 2, the girl of his dreams, MJ (Mary-Jane) is now dating his friend Harry. 3, the worst of all, a lunatic who travels on the oscorp glider decides to cause chaos over New York. His name- The green goblin. The green goblin is super strong like Spiderman, he likes to throw bombs, and the bottom line is that he is just completely crazy. And what he wants to do is to cause destruction over the city, but to achieve that he must do one thing first-KILL SPIDERMAN. And worst comes to worst when he discovers certain information on Spidey. Review: I thought that this movie was great. The actors picked for this were great also. Tobey Maguire is was great as Peter Parker and Spider-man. If you have not see this movie see it. I can't wait for for the next one.

Summary: so many mistakes
Review: there were alot of mitakes were u can tell they cut stuff out. and the part where...Norman was talkin to himself in the mirror...look at his hair in the mirror and than at him. its different. and parts of the scene were there havin a thanksgiving dinner, some parts MJ's arms up. some there down. when MJ and spiderman kiss in the rain and she pulls his mask up they edit it so its all the way before she does it all. and other stuff like that when Spiderman goes back to his place after the fire scene and he jumps on the balcony but next we see him takin off his mask and hes IN his room. other part was back at the kissin scene between MJ and spiderman. when he hangs upside down and shes lookin 4 him, shes walkin towards him and next second she turned and is starin at him. she wasnt even close enough to him to be directly in front of him. another mistakes.
there are stupid parts like the fire scene and the wresting scene. Peter's aunt n uncle are sure old. only see it once. its good than. more than that it gets stupid. Props to MJ's red hair. its great

Summary: A Stunning First Spider-Feature
Review: Even though I am not a comic book-based movie fan, I really enjoyed Sam Raimi's fun and reverent adaptation of Stan Lee's web-spinning, wall-crawling Spider-Man. I have to admit that I did not see this movie in my local cinema. At the time I was saving my limited movie-going funds for Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones, which opened two weeks after Spider-Man. I was also leery of having to pay to see a comic-book movie adaptation. I had loved the first two Superman movies, missed the third entirely until it came on TV (and hated it), saw the laughable Superman IV turkey, then had been further disappointed by the Batman franchise. I did see the 2000 X-Men feature film, but only because my best friend Rogers loaned me his DVD. Even so, the critical reviews on Time and elsewhere had given Spider-Man a pretty good "buzz," so when another friend asked me what I wanted for the holidays, so I requested the Wide-screen Special Edition. My friends, this movie and its DVD version do not disappoint! Like Richard Donner did in the first Superman feature film, director Sam Raimi gives us a reverent "origins of' story that fairly captures Stan Lee's original storyline. The screenplay by David (Jurassic Park) Koepp introduces us to Peter Parker, a nerdy high school senior who is not very popular. As played by Tobey (Pleasantville) Maguire, Peter represents the vast majority of teenage boys who excel academically yet, because they aren't socially skilled or good looking, are teased or even ostracized by their fellow students. If you watch the opening scene where Peter has to run after the school bus, you'll understand. Spider-Man is really the intertwined tale of the origins of both Spider-Man and the Green Goblin, a.k.a. Norman Osborn. As played by the talented Willem (Platoon) Dafoe, Osborne is a charismatic yet ambitious scientist who wants to get a military contract for a "super soldier." With a physical enhancement formula, a technically advanced armored suit, and a neat-o powered glider, this super soldier will, hopefully, give Osborn's OsCorp billions in funding, and establish Norman as a visionary entrepreneur. However, this being a comic book adaptation, is a recipe for disaster. When one of his top scientists warns Norman that the formula needs to be researched further (which would mean missing the Pentagon's deadline for bids) and warns of really nasty side effects, Osborn decides to test the formula on himself. And before you can say Dr. Jekyll, poor Norman - as the soon-to-be-departed scientific naysayer predicted - goes suddenly and tragically insane. Meanwhile, while on a field trip to Columbia University, Peter Parker has his own rendezvous with destiny with a genetically altered super-spider. (This is just one of a few "re-imaginings" of the original Spider-Man concept. In the comic book premiere issue of 1962, the spider had been affected by radiation - a dark little allusion to the then prevalent threat of nuclear war. There are other revisions...more on those later.) Although I am not an expert on Spider-Man - nor any comic book superhero, for that matter - the movie is faithful to its sources. Spider-Man (like DC's Batman) becomes a crime-fighter when crime touches his family. In Peter's case, his motivation is the senseless death of his uncle (in the movie, by a robber who car jacks Ben Parker after taking the money from a cheapskate wrestling ring operator). Not only does Peter seek revenge for his uncle's murder, but he also feels responsible: When Peter has a chance to at least call the police to report the robbery at the wrestling entrepreneur's office, he doesn't do so because he was not paid the promised prize money. The rest of the story revolves around two plots: Spidey's clashes with the Green Goblin and his relationships with Mary Jane Watson (Kirsten Dunst) and Harry Osborn (Peter Franco), who is Norman's son and, according to the legend of Spider-Man, destined to become the web-weaver's nemesis, the Hobgoblin. In this, what seems to be the first of a hopefully successful franchise, the seeds of conflict are planted in two ways. First, Peter and Harry, who start the film as best friends, compete for M.J's affections. Second, Harry will, by movie's end, come to hate Spider-Man with a passion. The film, like most adaptations of novels or comics, does tweak certain things to fit into contemporary culture or for dramatic reasons. Spidey's webs, originally designed by Peter and incorporated into his costume, now are organic mutations. The fine spidery hairs that form on his hands and fingers to grip walls and surfaces are also new inventions, as are the changes in the timeline (in the movie, Peter and his fellow teens are graduating seniors, where in the comic they were underclassmen). Nevertheless, this movie, like Warner Bros.' 1978 Superman: The Movie, are fine examples of how a comic book hero can make the transition from the printed page to the silver screen. The DVD is chock-full of extra features, including two commentaries on the feature film disc, branching "Web-I-sodes," TV and theatrical trailers, and exciting DVD-Rom features (such as Record Your Own Commentary). Even if you are not a big fan of comic book movies, this is a good movie to own.

A lot of coincidences such as MJ lives next door to him, she's his best friend's girlfriend, the best friend's dad is the evil goblin guy, he just happens to appear when Spider-Man does so they can battle, the robber from the wrestling place is the same guy who kills his uncle. I don't get the point of the goblin guy - what would he do if Spider-Man wasn't there? Rob banks? You have to be willing to accept some rather silly things such as a spider bite turning someone into a super spider person. There were some good things about the movie too, it wasn't all silly but enough of it was that I can't say I really like this movie. It seemed like the whole time I was waiting for something to happnen, but nothing really did. A standard fight at the end where they are punching each other, and the bad guy is killed by what he tries to kill Spider-Man with. They could have been a lot more creative than this. I give two stars because of the potential that was not met in this movie and the silliness and lack of anything really interesting.

Review: So many movies have to be skipped when deciding what i can buy for my family, given that I have 3 sons and 2 daughters. Ol spidey had action for the boys, and a love interest for the girls, without over doing either. Given that My review is the 882nd review for this movie, and no one win read this, I guess my 5 star vote is the most important contribution of this review. The movie contributed for to out family, than I can contribute to it. Please do a good job on the sequel!!
