Rating: Summary: BEST MOVIE, EVER!! Review: Honestly, don't listen to anyone that says a thing remotely negative towards this movie. It is the best movie ever!! And don't worry that you don't know anything about Spider-Man, you don't need to. It has great acting, awesome FX, wicked action and even a bit of romance, but not enough to ruin the film, *cough* Pearl Harbour *cough*I would recommend it to ANYONE. Any age, intersets, or religions, you won't be disappointed. :)
Rating: Summary: First Edition, and I don't mean of the Daily Bugle! Review: I started reading Spiderman Comic books back in the 1960s. When other comic book mainstays were stodgy, predictable, hero types, we were presented with a character with some flaws. Spider-Man is a real human, one who often wonders why he really doesn't just give it all up. While web slinging is an adrenalin rush, it has its downsides. Think about it for a moment, how would the police and media really act to costumed vigilantes roaming the city. I doubt they would shine the bat signal! What drives Spider-Man is great story. I would anxiously await the next issue on the newsstand, for that story to continue. I was not really looking for what the next great villain would be, I wanted to see what was going to happen to Peter, his aunt May, his lady friends, and how he would make the next months rent. A hero is only as great as his enemies. The Green Goblin in this movie was one of the best. A ruthless businessman with a taste for power, Norman Osborne was one of Spidey's greatest foes. For those of us who hate to see the same plot, rehashed over and over in successive movies, take heart. Spiderman had almost all the great villains. Heck, they even stole one for the movie Daredevil. I guess they couldn't think of a good one associated with that comic. Spider-Man originated the Kingpin, Doctor Octopus, the Vulture, the Sandman, the Rhino, the Scorpion, the Lizard, Kraven the Hunter, the Shocker, Electro, the Chameleon, and many others. There are so many great villains, and interesting stories, done in the comic about the Spider-Man character. If the moviemakers are careful not to ruin the franchise with low budgets, campy direction, or poorly chosen plots, the number of good Spider-Man movie releases can go on for decades. Examine the difference between movies spawned from popular icons found in things like video games, and a story-driven hero like Spider-Man. The rule of potential success will generally depend on how good the story is. Movies based on books, comics or otherwise story driven media, have a good success rate. Movies based on nothing but a popular icon, are generally just hit and miss. That's because it's more effective to accomplish the special effects, and settings to convey a good story. The reason is the moviemakers know the story, so the skill is in trying to get it told. Wrapping a contrived story around special effects, and showcasing popular icons, rarely succeeds, because it lacked the same inspiration that demanded a story to be told.
Rating: Summary: Very good movie Review: I really enjoyed Spiderman. It was action-packed and fun to watch, the actors really got into their roles, and the special effects were nicely done. Overall the movie was put together well. I must say that if you're someone like me (I don't normally watch action movies, I mostly stick with comedy) that you willl enjoy this movie! At first I wasn't sure about it, but I really did like it, and I bought it. I recommend the DVD to anyone.
Rating: Summary: okay Review: I saw spiderman in the treatres and thought it was the most awesomw thing in the world. And then I bought it when it same in. it wasnt as good without the audiance, surround sound, and trailers. plus the dvd itself wasnt too good nor were the speical feature. its a good time killer though.
Rating: Summary: Fun, but forgettable Review: I watched this on DVD (widescreen edition) and while it was entertaining enough while it was on-screen, there's not much depth or substance here. Tobey Maguire is passable as Peter Parker and Kirsten Dunst is appealing as Mary Jane (although I found her obviously dyed red hair distracting). The first half of the movie works well, but at the end it just becomes ridiculous; super strength is one thing, but supporting a cable car full of people would pull Spidey's arms right out of their sockets! It would have been a better movie if they'd toned it down a bit, especially the fight sequences.
Rating: Summary: Super adaptation of a Superhero legend! Review: As a person who grew up during the era when comic books served as a primary media for entertainment nourished by the weekly Saturday serial and matinee, I am drawn to the tales of the legendary superheos. The Phantom, the Shadow, Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman have all been transferred from the pen and ink print to the "silver screen". Spider-Man is not quite as seasoned in the superhero folklore genre, but it has been a fascinating tale about an interesting character that I've followed along with my children over the years. The Superman and Batman series had some great character portrayals and exciting special effects... but nothing like we have been given in Spider-Man. This is a superhero that I had always believed would be impossible to portray in "real" life. The abilities possessed by the "Webslinger" seemed as though they would be impossible to recreate by someone in the "flesh". Well, color me super surprised and totally flabbergasted. This talented group of people have done a superb job of replicating the "action" from the Stan Lee character. Tobey Maguire is a very believable Peter Parker and a super Spider-Man, Willem Dafoe is superb in developing his character as always. Kirsten Dunst captures the charm and beauty of M J, and J.K Simmons is great as the cynical J J Jameson. BUT!! The real credit for the stupendous success of this superhero character portrayal goes to the people behind the scenes that have created a masterpiece of fantasy that transcends reality. The antics of the Green Goblin on his "flying surfboard" and spidey's acrobatics and swinging through the city streets on web strands attached to skyscrapers are mindboggling. This is truly one of the most exciting and entertaining films of this decade. I have watched Spider-Man several times and each time discover something new and amazing that previously escaped my scrutiny. However, if you don't have the imagination to visualize the living superhero from a comicbook page, you may not recognize how truly amazing this portrayal has been developed. I hope that we will get to see a couple of sequels... there is certainly a lot more to tell of this tale.
Rating: Summary: Not My Favorite Film of 2002 Review: This film could have been done so much better! I'm not so sure that Tobey Maguire was the best actor for the role. Let me just say, he's not spidery enough, if that makes any sense. Christopher Reeves was superman, Jack Nicholson was Joker, Maguire is not Spiderman. The plot is somewhat duller than I expected, more of an introductory than anything, like Star Wars Episode 1. There's just not a whole lot of Spiderman Action!
Rating: Summary: THE Super-hero! Review: This is the super-hero film everyone is trying to duplicate. "Daredevil" couldn't do it, neither could "Hulk". It has something for everyone and the DVDs are LOADED with extras. See for yourself - it's money well spent.
Rating: Summary: Grab the popcorn! Review: This movie is entertainment - pure and simple. So what that you already know where the story is going to go. So what that the evil guys are easy targets for a good raspberry or two. Who cares? This movie is for all ages and entertainment levels. Get together with some friends, put the movie in and have a great time!
Rating: Summary: Good, but not the best Review: For the most part, there is nothing terrible to pick on in Spider Man. However, this film fails to hold high interest all throughout. Most likely this is because the movie is trying to make a top-notch film from a children's comic book, which is not necessarily easy to do. Most of the acting is good. Toby Maguire as Peter Parker-Spider Man is not bad. He does well at portraying Peter's shy, picked on life at school, and then his transformation to a more confidant superhero. Kirsten Dunst is alright as M.J., but her acting does not stand out as amazing--there is nothing to complain about, however. Willem Dafoe as Norman Osborne/the somewhat overdone villain the Green Goblin, deffinitely stands out. He plays Norman well as he deteriorates from a nice businessman to a trapped man enslaved to the Goblin's intimidating mask. So far, so good. This film, coming as it did after a history of many films crammed with convincing special effects, it would be expected that Spider Man would be the same. Unfortunately, the effects here are somewhat disappointing. Especially in one scene where Peter Parker is jumping up the wall of a building, it looks like he is in a computer game--a well done, convincing computer game, but still a computer game. The character of the Green Goblin is something I have somewhat of a beef with. I would have no problem if Sam Raimi, the director of the film, had kept his mean tempermant at the same level, but his own admittance of his standing as an anti-hero and a lunatic seems to go a little over the top. With some decent action scenes and good acting, this movie is fairly good, but not the dream film.
