Review: So rare that a movie actually exceeds you expectation...you have to see it to believe it! Tim Roth steals the show as Thade, and the ending is so odd it'll have you wondering long after you leave. Well made all around, I can't wait to pick up the soundtrack!

Summary: the simian guide to human movie fans
Review: first of all, let's get one thing straight: I am a Tim Burton addict in the worst possible way, so yes, this is a completely biased opinion.... I've heard many gripes about Mark Whalberg being cast for leo, but he did a pretty good job at a space-jock type pushed into a mind-blowing change....Tim Roth, an actor who is just too good at villains I love to hate (Rob Roy) was just freaking fantastic as Thade, and better looking, too....it was also nice to see Lisa Marie again....the sfx were intense, the makeup, well, I'll never go to the zoo and see apes quite the same way again. in short, I loved it, like I love all Tim's movies...when's the next one?!?!

Review: The new updated version of the Planet of the Apes, directed by Tim Burton brings to light a lot of information not available for the 1968 adaptation of the novel. This movie brings together the best in special effects, musical score, and acting to bring an action-packed accurate portrayal of an all-time classic.

Summary: Does Not Live Up to the Hype
Review: Few movies actually deliver on the promise of a trailer, but this film falls way short. Save your time and money and watch the original. While the look and feel for the "apes" in this movie surpass the original, that is where its superiority ends. The story is weak and at times laughable. I think this is another example of a studio rushing a project before it was ready. I expected a lot more from a director of Burton's credentials.

Summary: Great visuals but weak storyline/character development.
Review: I was really excited to see this film, but came out--along with my wife--extraordinarily disappointed. Although I enjoyed Director Tim Burton's interesting visuals and the authentic movements of the apes, the movie was just flat-out boring with a capital "B". The storyline just plods along and the characters are completely uninteresting and underdeveloped. As a result, you don't really care what happens to anyone, and the little action that does take place never seems to have any emotion behind it. And the ending (don't worry, I'm not going to give anything away,) had logical inconsistencies and was completely anti-climactic. Another great example of how the studios will spend a ton of money for a great concept and visuals without focusing on the three most important items in making a great movie: story, story and story!!

Summary: Sorry, but we were rooting for the apes...
Review: Maybe it was just us (but I don't think so judging from the reactions of other viewers in the theater) but this one came so close to being really good - and then fell flat, flat, flat. My husband and I were left good by the plot (what plot there was) and found the humans (the ones who weren't in the ape makeup and costumes) to be characters withouth great depth or dimension. Also, there is tension and unspoken rivalry between Helena Bonham Carter as an ape and a blonde-haired girl who is smitten with Mark Wahlberg's character.That plot line went nowhere and there was a big build-up but no fireworks. Wahlberg, an actor we've enjoyed before in other movies, is strangely lifeless, almost flat in his delivery and timing througout. But then maybe he didn't have a great script to work with. You know something is wrong with this movie when you're rooting ONLY for the apes. But then again, they did have the best makeup and costumes, perhaps the best part of the entire movie.

Review: I give this Planet of the Apes 2 stars simply for the way it looks., Which is all it has going for it. After a strong start. The film crashes faster and harder than Mark Wahlberg's shuttle crashes into the swamp where his adventure begins. The main problem with Planet Of The Apes Is the constant barrage of updates and attempts to make the Apes seem more human. One Female Ape Actually Says as she walks into a dinner party. "I'm Having a bad hair day" Not Funny. The Acting is all over the Place especially Tim Roth who is so over the top... The script isn't celver or exciting. What you get is a two hour chase film that runs in circles. I am still so disappointed I can't fully Describe how bad I thought this film was. Stick with the Original or any of the sequals They're all better than this...

Summary: Not like the Planet of Apes 1968
Review: For last 3 years I nearly watched 50 movies which were remake films. Planet of Apes is one of them. I do not know how much money they spend on this film but I have just one short comment about it. If they think that they can continue with this kinds of tricks, they are obviously wrong. I watched the 1968 version, maybe, 10 times but this unacceptable 2001 movie has nothing like the old one. The movie titles are the same and thats all. Director Tim Burton, says that he did not want to remake film, but actually I think he wanted and tried but of course he couldnt. He even can NOT manage to form the same philosophy of the story. Nowadays I watched his comments about this side of the movie as a sponger. I think he just want to make money with the fame of the old version and surely that is what I hate in remake movies. At last I can advice one thing, do NOT watch the movie in a cinema, just try the DVD version. This film does NOT fit the cinema movie criterion.

Review: Planet of the Apes is the same thing over and over. My advice to you is to go and see Jurassic Park 3. Jurassic Park 3 is better, it has humor and a real plot. Plus, parts of the Jurassic Park series could really come true before apes could ever take over the world. Science has come a long way, so in my opinion, if you give some rich scientist, like in Jurassic Park, you probably could get a real live dinosaur. Jurassic Park 3 is 9 stars better than Planet of the Apes. Supporting apes is nuts, apes could never take over the world, dinosaurs could back to life. Before you go to see Planet of the Apes, look at the facts, it couldn't happen, dinosaurs could happen.

Summary: General Thane Steals the Show
Review: First thing that grabbed me was the music. From the first few notes, I knew I had to come online to get the soundtrack....a few moments later I knew why..that Danny Elfman can sure set the mood. We'll see him on Oscar nite. Genuinely amazing makeup on the monkeys...oops I mean apes. Just cut the formalities and give Rick Baker the Oscar now for his incredible job transforming actors into apes with so much expression it's uncanny. Stunning job! Tim Roth as General Thane scared the ever-loving hell outta me. More menacing and dangerous than any onscreen villian I can remember, I cringed every time he was on the screen. He exuded barely contained rage, like a smouldering powderkeg, every time he was onscreen. Seeing Roth play this role to the hilt was worth every penny of my admission price. Much comic relief in this remake. Incredibly expressive comic performance from Paul Giamatti as Limbo the slave trader - great acting - he had me rolling. Helena Bonham Carter was much too pretty to be a chimp. I liked the minor subplot of jealousy between her and Daena (Estella Warren) over the spaceman who fell from the sky. Nothing was ever spoken about it, but a few exchanged looks and expressions said everything - nice acting job, ladies. From the first few words uttered from the character of Thane's dying father - my brain started to whir - I know that voice. My jaw dropped when I realized it was Chuck Heston underneath the old ape makeup! What a great tribute to the original. Chuck was fantastically mesmerizing for the few minutes he was onscreen. Great great great supporting cast. Loved the rivalry between the two older warrior silverbacks. They were truly the heart of this struggle. I hope you've noticed my lack of mention of Mark Wahlberg here. But if you got nothing nice to say then don't say anything at all, right? Wrong. But there was so much great action and character development around him that you hardly notice. Not even his wooden performance could drop this movie to less than 5 stars. The ending definitely leaves room for a sequel. This movie is going to be a blockbuster, so I guess it's inevitable. Let's just hope Wahlberg's character gets killed early in the next installment. Gotta stop writing now and go see this one again!
