Rating: Summary: PHILOSOPHY MEETS SCIENCE FICTION Review: There is no doubt about it, this film is one of the most original science fiction movies ever made. Who would have though that philosophy and sci fi could work together to make a really interesting movie? This movie starts off like Alfred Hitchcock's Vertigo--I'm referring to the rooftop chase--and the end is like one of the Terminator movies. Full of stone-shattering fist-fights and special effects. Because of the philosophical content, some of the ideas are hard to grasp. Let's face it, it is hard to discuss almost ANY philosophical idea in the space of two hours. But I think this film does it rather nicely, considering. Like I mentioned earlier, some of the fist-fight scenes are reminesent of the Terminator movies, but with more emphasis on the martial arts, instead of just mindless bashing. And of course, what action movie isn't complete without the ever-so-awesome mini-gun? The casting job was done really well in this movie, from Neo to Trinity to Morpheus. The antagonist (the suit-and-tie guy wearing shades) reminds me alot of Garrison Keillor (if you've seen him live in A Prairie Home Companion on TV) as to how he talks and scrunches his face up. But the other part of what really makes this movie stand out, in my opinion, is the camera-work. Especially during the second half. You get to see guns fire in slow-motion, people dodging bullets and fists, etc. Now the first half of this movie is somewhat slow (hence the four stars instead of 5) but the last hour or so will explain A LOT and make it worth it all.
Rating: Summary: This movie is a bad joke. Review: The film has a very interesting philosophic idea, and the plot is indeed unpredictable. But the movie itself is too bad. The main idea was well developed but it was not entirely original. It was taken from Total Recall and The Nightmare on Elm Street. And it was also unreasonably violent. All people around there were enemies. It was ok for the main hero to enter the federal building and start killing everyone he sees. What this movie teaches our children and us? The plot has too many holes. Why, for example, people have to die in reality if they were killed just in the dream? There was nothing great or special in the special effects. The actions were intense but still too primitive. Characters were not well developed. Bad acting. I was disappointed with this movie. It does not worth watching even once.
Rating: Summary: More than cyber-thrills and spills Review: The Matrix is one of the few movies that I enjoy watching over and over. Each time I view it, I discover something new in the story or scenes. It has a rare and interesting plot, and it appeals to the imagination, emotions and intellect. In this age of artificial intelligence, virtual reality, "e"-everything and cyber-everything, the theme of the movie is a relevant piece of work. A friend of mine said that he does not like the movie because it is "unrealistic" and far-fetched. Well, to those who feel this way, I would like to say that it is, after all, a science-fiction movie, not a science documentary. As a sci-fi movie, it has to go beyond what we normally regard as "realistic" , and The Matrix certainly stretches way beyond those boundaries. This is also one movie which is even the more interesting and mind-blowing when followed with other on-line resources or web information, such as the numerous uncanny Biblical parallels and symbolisms (such as Neo readily sacrificing himself to save humankind from the deception and bondage of a malevolent force, then coming back alive to defeat his foes), as well as analysis of some of the characters and their names. I first watched the movie simply for "eyes-lolly" Keanu as Thomas Anderson, but as I watched the video again, I find the other characters growing on me too, such as Trinity, Morpheus, Tank, and yes! even the 3 agents Smith, Jones and Brown, esp. Agent Smith. All in all, it is a great movie with a good cast, cool, stylish stunts and special effects.
Rating: Summary: Action-packed! Great cinematography and stuntwork! Review: This is the coolest movie I ever saw! This has breathtaking stunts, edge-of-your-seat kung-fu action scenes and amazing visual effects. This is one of the best sci-fi/martial arts/action film ever. If you like this, see Terminator 2, The Terminator, Total Recall and other movies like that. 5 stars, an A+ and a 10 for this winner!!!
Rating: Summary: The people who made this movie will burn in hell Review: Let's be honest here. It's not a good film. Number one, the special effects are good, so I won't argue with that. But dragging my entrails across THREE counties to see this peice of garbage was the most pitiful experience of my life. Cliches everywhere I look, and that ending scene where she proclaims her love for reeves and that he must be "the one" if she loves him actuly made me cry, becuase at that point I was so in shock that paid full ticket price to see this I had to shed a few(hundred) tears.
Rating: Summary: One of the Greatest Sci-Fi Flicks!!! Review: When I first saw the trailer for this film I knew I had to see it, I saw images of stuff I hadn't ever seen before and I think that's why this film did so well. It seemed to be a breat of fresh air that the sci-fi realm needed (especially with Episode I being a disappointment). I normally don't like Keanu but he did really well in this one, and Carrie-Ann Moss was exceptional. I really love the way this flick starts out because you don't really know what's going on and it's really mysterious. The sound is awesome on this DVD and there doesn't seem to be any articacts on the video, if only we had a DTS sound selection.
Rating: Summary: The Matrix is cool! Review: I like the part when he dodges the bullets. It's really cool!I recomnend this movie to everybody! My brother likes karate. That's why he likes this movie. The visual effects are really cool! You should watch it!The movie is cool!
Rating: Summary: Hmm...best movie ever? Review: Bam, bam, crash, ahh....a familiar sound in The Matrix. But beneath all that there is a much deeper current flowing: that of philosophy. The Matrix should keep everyone happy: be you brainless rudeboy who just likes violence, vicar of the local church or proffesor of philosophy at Oxford University. Too much has been said about this film already: legions of reviewers before me have pointed out its brilliance: but I stand to join them because I simply cannot give it a bad review. This should be national curriculum, for God's sake. Talking of God, I'm sure NO-ONES pointed this out before me, but have you noticed the relgious connections? Neo is the one (hence Christ), Morpheus brings people into it (hence John the Baptist), the Oracle is to do with the future and gives people advice (hence the Holy Spirit). Cypher (Judas) betrays Neo (Christ) for Agent Smith (the Devil). Its all so obvious! On a more bam-bam note, the special effects are excellent and its great on a good DVD player. This isn't a movie, its an experience.
Rating: Summary: It rips through your senses. Review: From its opening sequence, The Matrix takes you on a wild ride through the senses. Tight action sequences, terrific martial arts choreography, engrossing plotline, alongside numerous, original cinematic sequences, the movie draws you into a world of its own. Filled with the most original camera work ever done in cinema, the action sequences will leave you breathless. However, let this not diminish the brilliantly original storyline in any way. The Matrix is a highly entertaining and thought-provoking movie worthy of a DVD collection, which by the way contains numerous bonus features.
Rating: Summary: Are We Pagan Proletariats.... Review: ...who are imagining we are Gods and Demi Gods of an eternal battle of Good vs What Is Opposite or are we Demi Gods posing as the pagan proletariats?--particularly those armed with a coupla microchips?
